    there's definitely a real easy answer to this, but how is he able to be optioned to the minors. Is there a provision for situations like this? Is it considered 'rehab'?

    he was signed when they signed all the other bullpen misfits in January, he was on a contract where he had to make the team or be released. He was released at the end of spring training and signed right back.
