  1. We're the Cubs not the Royals. A budget is a budget. What do you have a degree in? (if you don't mind my asking) Knock that off. Who cares what his degree is in. Thanks - sometimes I think the goal here is to discredit other posters to move up some invisible food chain instead of talking Cubs baseball. Things have been getting a little dicey around here lately, havent they? Noticeably.
  2. And most importantly, the "beating" of his pregnant wife: What would you call this? A gentle love tap? He choked her and bloodied her lip. My wife (who is pregnant) and I have argued since she became pregnant, and some how I have managed to not assault or batter her. Go look up the definition of a "battery" if you want to see what I mean. And everything is "alleged" (including most of the rumors we discuss on this bd.), but when a person has a history of violent conduct as Bradley does, it is more likely to be true.
  3. :?: Didn't he and Skinner but heads?
  4. What do you mean he beat up his pregnant wife? Do you have the info for this? I know a guy that was an idiot but this is what happened when he got charged with a felony. He was arguing with his wife wife and threw an empty beer can at her. She picked up the kid to protect herself from getting hit, the can hit the kid and he got charged and convicted for a felony. After this, I want to know what happened when someone is accused of or even convicted of a crime. There are just too many rumors out there that snowball into something bigger for some strange reason. Here is what happended: Responses and apologies would be appreciated. And I still don't want him.

  6. Guys, he beat up his pregnantg wife! This isn't your avg. malcontent. I'd rather have three T.O.s on the team.
  7. =D> That's sort of boring isn't it? What's the point of posting on this site if you won't predict, analyze, evaluate and offer opinions? I've never understood this idea at all. I offer opinions, I just don't think that my opinion is always right just b/c statistics support it. I am in this for the free exchange of ideas. Bullpens are a prime example: they are completely unpredictable, and thus subject to varying interpritations. However, some folks who are trashing the Eyre and Howry deals appear to be saying, "Look the stats say they will stink in 06'! End of story. There can be no argument." I don't agree.
  8. @ 2-3 times the cost. FYI, Neither Ryan nor Wagner were ever options for the Cubs since the day the Cubs signed Dempster to an extension. He's also several years younger and his numbers are much better, hence the higher cost. You're probably right on the second point, which shows a lack of imagination on Hendry's part. Would you rather have Ryan @ 5 yrs. 47 mil or Dempster @ 3/ 15.5? Both were in their 1st year as closers. FYI, Ryan is 29 & Dempster is 28 To my knowledge, BJ Ryan has never had TJS. I know what you are getting at; I think Wood is an exception in that regard. Look at Burnett. Hasn't he had TJS twice?
  9. I thought it was them who said that about Brownlie. But I didn't want to put it out there and falsely accuse them. Can Bobby even throw a fastball at 95 anymore? Nope. This just smacks of the whole pudge incident, too. They reported that he had signed based on an "Arizona radio station report" and pretty much guaranteed it was a done deal. That was when Steve Holley still ran the show there, but it looks like things haven't changed at all. As for the Yahoo thing, ITI has an RSS feed that Yahoo picks up automatically. I've been meaning to set one of those up for NSBB, but we haven't been writing too many front page articles lately anyway! Anyone have a pic of that Mr. Bogus guy? Here he is: http://www.noeesnook.com/images/bogus.jpg
  10. Thanks, Bruce. I think most who have seen it agree.
  11. Well, he is gone. Guess not. EDIT: May be he is going to check out that Soriano rumor....
  12. Anything on this stuff that is driving us all crazy?
  13. passion and fire? among other brutally violent episodes, the guy tried to choke his pregnant wife. i think you are confusing psychosis with passion. if he were not a pro baseball player they would have locked him up and thrown away the key long ago. Good point. Amazing what a guy that can play a sport well can get away with. If there is truth to this story, then I don't want him. Its one thing to fight with a teammate (or even to chuck a bottle at a guy who is probably insulting your mother). Its another thing to choke your pregnant wife. That's not ok, and I really do not care how high his OBP is.
  14. Hard to disagree. He would have to get Pierre and then hope that the 06' Cubs become the 03' Marlins. But lets not jump the gun...
  15. You must have forgotten, the most important stat for judging a player's value is AB's Geez, look at some of the other "Type As"; Ausmus and Clemens in the same sentence.
  16. Wow. Take a pill, pal. I just posted my solution - follow the Oakland and Minni models. But since I don't feel like arguing about this any longer, I'll drop it. whatever. don't bother whining about my criticisms of Hendry if you're going to have weak arguments for bashing another team's GM. No prob. And thanks for ignoring my arguments in order to bolster your own. I hope you feel special now.
  17. I am just trying to get my arms around this deal. Does this mean no Juan Pierre? Here's the prospective outcome: Pierre Furcal Lee ARam Soriano Murton Mench Barrett :?: Is this any good? You can move Alfonso down in the order; if he's hitting in the six hole, he's probably the best no. six hitter in baseball.
  18. Welly is the guy I have the most regrets about. His stuff and "makeup" screamed closer to me.

  20. I could see that with Eyre; less so with Howry.
  21. Oooh, good question. The scuttle-butt on this bd. has often been "why are we paying so much money to a middle reliever?" Darn good question. Wish I had an answer. That's one way to look at it, I was thinking that a lot of people love to ride wood for his injuries limiting his pitching time, yet would be fine paying a closer similar money (on an IP basis). Well, for better or worse, the cost of closers and relievers has gone exponentially in recent years. I guess we'll all just have to deal.
  22. Lots of folks are talking outta both sides of their mouths these days: "I'd rather sign FAs than trade our prospects...but don't spend so much money!" I think few people would make gross generalizations like that. Some free agents are worth the money and some aren't. I think trading Pie would be great if we got ARod in return - if we get Pierre in return, not so much. I have seen exactly those generalizations and contradictory statements crop up recently. Its my opinion that it stems from the fact that the current Cubs fan base is the most rabidly frustrated in history. And I wouldn't go trading Pie for Pierre either...however, for Abreu or Dunn...
