  1. I'm thinking the Devil Rays would ask for Pie and other prospects, so the chances for a deal on Lugo aren't good. Marte wasn't enough to get Lugo - we shouldn't even ASK. And here we thought LaMar was no longer in charge...
  2. Can someone please instruct me on how to sign up for premium. I know that paypal is involved.
  3. Put Floyd between Lee and ARam with Pierre in CF and we have the makings of a decent lineup. But I also do want to give up a prospect of any signifigance. If the move pushes Murton into a deal to get Abreu or Dunn, i could live with that, even though I really like Murton.
  4. How many freakin' MIFers do the Dodgers need? I guess Grady misses him.
  5. The only way they'd sign Pierre is if Pie stalled at AAA in 2006. Pie is still really young, so they can afford to keep him down til 2008 if need be. OR, maybe Pie now becomes expendable for Abreu, Manny or Dunn. Stop stealing my already posted thunder.
  6. If there is a G-d? If so, they trade him and a minor league pitcher for Dunn or Abreu.
  7. And that's a fair point as well. I have been killing Jim recently for holding onto prospects too long and letting them become "stale". I don't know the exact stats, but a bunch of us "guesstimated" that only 5-8% of players who rank as Top 25 prospects in a single org. will ever make a significant impact at the ML level. You hold them too long, and their warts get exposed, and thuse they their value shrinks. Recent exhibit in this regard is Juan Cruz. Point is, Sabermatrician makes a good point and so does Kess (above)...and i dunno...I am just glad Jim did something to improve the team. And at the end of the day, Kess is right that the "wait and see" approach has gone no where in the past. Nevermind my post above. I give the "thumbs up", assuming we fill that gaping whole in RF.
  8. Aw, c'mon Mush--Fez is a total zero, and Nolasco and Pinto only look good because they pitched well while REPEATING AA. That's a big leap to get from AA success to useful major leaguer, as their failure in AAA in 2004 attests. None of these guys are anything other than marginal prospects. So, good trade! When the situation is dire, you need to overpay, OK, but what's done is done. We finally have a leadoff man. You are right--if Pierre performs in 2006 as he did in either 2001, 2003, or 2004, Cub fans are going to be very VERY happy. Just because a minor leaguer repeated a level (especially in the case of Nolasco) doesn't mean they're marginal in the least bit. This is an extremely steep price for Pierre. I am a JH supporter and am glad we got Pierre, but I agree with Rasin. I am surprised at how steep the price is for Pierre. I would expect to pay that much (and then some) as a package for Abreu, not Pierre. JH overplayed his had. But lets wait and see if we get anything else back...
  9. Do we want to match Marte for Lugo? OK, I get it: you do not want Lugo or Pierre. Of the one's realistically left, who do you want?
  10. This is friggin b.s. The Mets have made eighteen deals and the Dodgers, who only in the last five minutes have a new manager, now have a brand new MIF. And what are you up to Mr. Hendry? How's the food at the hotel? My worst-case scenario prophecy is beginning to materialize...
  11.  Lima: "C'mon Angel, where's your money?"
  12. Holy cow, Anna is gonna be p*ssed. But I like her when she is angry... =P~
  13. I don't think the Cubs are in a position where they can justify a no trade list of prospects. None of their prospects is good enough to justify holding back in a trade for a top notch player like Abreu. I completely, utterly, and in all other ways agree. thats great but since it seems that the one who makes the decisions has a different idea, hill and murton are most likely not going to be traded for anyone. time will tell if this is a good decision or not. if hill can live up to his potential, he will be worth more than a few years of abreu. Actually George Offman is reporting that Hill is available. This makes perfect sense; another Hendry rouse (sp?) to up his value.
  14. I agree with all that, I'm just saying they would still have holes to fill. You'd still need to make a move for a potentially solid LF, not settle for the PrestJuan Jonesnitz group. LOL. The bast**d love children of an illicit one night afair between Ozzie Timmons and Mitch Webster.

  16. Furcal left because he got $13 freakin million dollars a year from the stupid Dodgers. Can't blame Hendry for that. You can get Pujols for a million more a year. Exactly. Jim looked at himself in the mirror and said, " I am really going to pay Furcal more than Tejada gets?!!!"
  17. I like that report. Interest in Wilkerson, Pierre, Bradley and Dunn; less in Kearns; none in Soriano. May be I should not panic...
  18. I agree - that is too much. I'd rather save those two for an Abreu deal.
  19. Might be one of the worst pieces of journalism in sports history. Typical Fox Sports cr*p. As a media outlet, they are bottom.
  20. If it will cost CHC Prior that pretty well blows a hole in the argument that STL could get him for Marquis, or BAL (Bedard), Yankees (Wang), etc... Agreed. I suspect that Gillick doesn't haveto trade Abreu but will if the right deal comes along. That said: PLEASE make it happen Jim!!!!!!! Pie, Nolasco, and Novoa for Abreu and cash. Nolasco has front of the rotation stuff; Novoa could close, or at least be a solid middle of the pen guy; Pie can be spun off for more picthing.
  21. Did you sleep through the entire 2005 season? Because I would find it hard to believe that anyone who remotely paid attention to last season would still think that. Yeah in 2004 they were almost identical, but Crawford actually improved last year while Patterson took an enormous step backwards. Crawford in '05: .301/.331/.469/.800 Patterson in '05: .215/.254/.348/.602 He also stole 46 bases while only being caught 8 times, good for an 85% success rate. Oh yeah and he's 2 full years younger and makes over $2.5M less than Corey. Honestly. Agreed, especially since this particular poster often cites such stats. I'd love to have Crawford. His stats are trending upward in a joke of a lineup, playing for a pathetic organization, and with a manager who hates playing kids, but who for some reason gave him a shot. Good thing he did - now he's a "vet" with value. I'm not saying I'd give up Pie to get him, but I would deal, say, Patterson and Hill for Crawford and a prospect.
  22. That is a terribly frightening thought.
  23. Harold should stick to evaluating baseball talent. http://www.annabenson.net sweet sassy molassy
  24. .Thumbs up. Hopefully Walt pulls a Hendry and signs Jacque Jones now. And Jones will go .305 / .365 / .460 b/c its the Cards. I doubt it. It's quite possible that Jacque Jones' suckiness is such that not even Cardinal pixie dust can make him an All-Star. I still wouldn't bet against it though. (Abraham Nunez 4 Life) Perfect example.
