  1. Bump-to-the-second-power. Let the panic begin. Anyone got a pic that conveys a feeling of chaos? (excluding pics of Dusty managing a game  )
  2. Not sure what that was in your teeth, Vance, but I assume that you were saving it for later.
  3. We are witnessing NSBB history tonight folks. This is going to rock this bd. And I feel violated.
  4. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/dt/huffau01.shtml Those numbers bear out that he's decidedly subpar. BP2005 categorizes him as a "high-quality hitter with a low-quality glove". And STATS and most scouts I've seen say he's perfectly adequate. BP is, well - BP. Consider the source. I never said that BP was gospel, but it's not garbage either, and certainly not myth. BP does take a very scientific approach to analysis which eliminates emotional bias. And human observation. human observation that can be extremely swayed by emotional bias Mr. Spock? Is that you? Live long and prosper!
  5. I like parts of that deal - namely that the Cubs end up with Zito and Soriano, and jettison Wood. Oakland must be getting some excellent prospects. If true, I agree. I know that Woody's ceiling is likely higher than Zito's, but at this point do we know that Woody is healthier than Zito?
  6. Yup. What Roast said. Again, I am trying not to panic, but if we are in a spot where we have to make trades to improve ...
  7. I hope you are right. I have constantly advocated not pushing the panic button too early. Now I feel like those monkeys in that old Capital One commercial...
  8. Now that several trades have been made and Furcal has begun to drag his feet, I have been getting a very uneasy feeling about this offseason. I wonder if Furcal is simply using both us and LA to drive up the price in Atl. I wonder if JH has missed out on all realistic trade opportunities that would truly benefit this team. Like many of you, I am not wild about a deal for Mench and Soriano, and I do not think that Bradley by himself will reverse our fortunes. As I mentioned in the Furcal thread, "I have a bad feeling about this." Jacque Jones bad. Anyone else think this might be the end result?: Perez (2B) Bradley Lee Ramirez Jacque Jones Murton Barret Cedeno
  9. BUMP Anyone else notice how quiet things have been on the Damon front? Wonder what that means...
  10. Furcal Bradley Lee Ramirez Huff Not a bad 1-5. Must trust that Huff will bounce back though...
  11. I know that I am a Hendry supporter, but in light of recent events, I must quote Han Solo: "I have a bad feeling about this."
  12. This is the first deal that I am upset about. We could have, had Jim been so inclined, made a better offer than the Twins and taken care of our leadoff hitter and 2B issue in one swoop, leaving Cedeno at SS and freedom to go out and use Walker to get a CF and prospects to get a RF. Now, Jim will have to overpay for Furcal. I am not on the Hendry Bash-Wagon, but I am unhappy.
  13. O's bullpen in shambles already. Now they want to trade Julio. What gives?
  14. I don't think he/she was attempting to rub anyone's nose in it. CubFanIn CA feels as I did and do that Giles was never realistically going to consider Chi., otherwise Hendry might have gotten involved. In other words, the apparent (note that I used a qualifier) fact that Hendry did not get involved indicates to me that JH had info which lead him to believe that either: 1) Giles had no intention of leaving SoCal; or 2) To get him to leave, you'd have to offer a ridiculous amount of years and money. I like Giles very much, but I was never counting on getting him.
  15. That is very interesting. I dunno what to think. The Halos do have a very good farm system. I guess I could live w/ Patterson for Finley and an OF prospect.
  16. Even if Giles is 70% as effective he still is only making 10 mill/year. In three years that probably won't be that much for a putting up those numbers. He was the perfect fit. I understand if he wasn't interested in leaving the WC. Maybe Hendry knew and that is why he didn't persue, who knows. Hope you are wrong about that; that would be a record amount of inflation. Its too bad that we were not able to get him, but I also hope that those of you who have been killing Hendry for not participating (even though none of us know whether he did or did not) will reconsider in light of Giles decision.
  17. Yeah, I don't get that either. I think it is reasonable to conclude that he is using the Dodgers to drive the price up. Stand firm Jim; call his bluff. If he wants LA and their manager-less team, let him have it. Especially if he wants a guaranteed 5th year and more than $55 mill. Then go out and acquire Pierre and Abreu (please!!!!!!!!!!!!).
  18. Per Levine on ESPN Radio 1000: 5 yr deal. Will be announced soon.
  19. BUMP: All the other Furcal threads seem to have disappeared, so I thought I'd bump this one: According to this morning's Trib (which I read the old fashioned way - it comes to my doorstep), the Atl Journal-Constitution is reporting that the Cubs latest offer is for 5 years and is "pleasing" to Furcal. The Braves offer is "substantially" less than the Cubs. An associate of Furcal's agent was in L.A. yesterday to listen to what the Dodgers have to say as well. The links require registration. May be somone else can post them. My two cents: why would he go to L.A. when they do not have a manager yet? Its gotta be down to the Cubs and Braves.
  20. I thought the same. No mention of the terms beuing discussed... 8-[
  21. Mods feel free to merge this with another Furcal thread if necessary. Noteworthy: Furcal spent Sunday and Monday here in Chicago; race is down to the Cubs, Braves and Dodgers. I had not heard that one. Here's the article: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2241012[/i]
  22. See my edited post above. You left out a lot.
  23. Not sure that anyone cares, but ESPN Radio reporting that the Angels increased their offer to Paulie: 5 yrs and 60-some-odd mill. He will be visiting CA as a result.
  24. How is their pitching horrible?: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYM/2005.shtml Martinez Glavine V. Zambrano K. Benson Trachsel Wagner Not great, but certainly not horrible.
