I'd do it for Bobby Abreu and Brett Meyers. That would be a disaster of massive proportions for this team. I don't think it would be a bad trade. Zambrano is a great pitcher. Abreu is a great hitter. Myers has comparable stuff to Z (maybe better), strikes out a ton of guys, is the same age. I edited the post if you included Utley, I do it, you solve 3 problems. For a guy who still has control problems from time to time, and the big inning sometimes.

I think we could get something of value, Patterson still has as much talent as anyone in baseball. He also has speed, and power, and youth.

This isn't George Bell, this is Manny Ramirez, one of the greatest hitters of all time. With some great years left. There is only a handfull of players I would trade Pie for, and Manny's one of them.

Would 3 years 27 million get it done? With a team option for a 4th year for 9 million, with a buyout. Year 1 11 million Year 2 9 million Year 3 7 million 4 years 36 million? Giles is 34, but I thought he was a tad older. He walks a lot so his OBP will almost certainly be respectable throughout the duration of the contract, power will probably decline year by year. -

Imagine, we're a few games out with a pitching lineup like Hariston Walker Garciaparra Lee Manny A-Ram Burnitz Barrett Thats a World Series lineup, and we can still have Prior, Zam, and Maddux for a formidable short series punch. -

Would you do a swap of Corey Patterson and a prospect for Vernon Wells? Vernon is a great defender and is productive this season. If he is only the block maybe we should try to get acquire him.
