  1. This shouldn't suprise anyone. Hendry has stated several times that his priorities for the off-season was getting a lead-off hitter, improving the BP & the defense. JJ is a GG caliber defender.
  2. I'm not a proponent of the Cubs signing J.Jones. However, if he reverts back to his 02 & 03 numbers, it might not be that bad. 02- 300/341/511 & 03- 304/333/464. He is a GG caliber OF. A two year deal would be OK, if other avenues of the trade market have been explored & since no one but JH & his staff really knows what the trade maket bears, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. A 3 yr. deal or more for Jones would make me question the move even more. BTW, going into the 06' season, Jones is a far better overall baseball player than Patterson. If I had a choice, which is pure speculation to begin with, not knowing all the details, I would rather see P.Wilson platoon in RF with CPatt. Let's face it, the FA agent market is very thin, therefore creating a high cost for almost anyone on the trade front.
  3. Derek Lee, Aramis Ramirez, Kenny Lofton, Mark Grudzelaniek,Eric Karros Juan Pierre, Mark Prior, Carlos Zambrano, Matt Clement, Moises Alou, Michael Barrett, Ryan Dempster,Jerome Williams, Matt Murton! Oh the pain!!! Jim you shouldn't have! How dare you!!!
  4. I meant that I wanted both Wilson and Gibbons. That would give the Cubs 5 pretty decent options in the OF, no impact but decent as long as Hendry doesn't overpay for either. In this thin FA market, especially for OF's, overpaying is going to be the only way to land one. Same goes for the trade market for an OF. You are going to have to overpay. It's just the way it is.
  5. Early in the off-season, when JH stated one of his priorities were to improve the defense, I knew Nomar was as good as gone.
  6. Huff is a perfect fit for the Cubs with what is available. I'd rather see a Hill/ Welly trade rather than a Guzman/Welly trade. In my opinion, Huff is one of those, in need of a change of scenery, type players.
  7. Not really, Hairston,Neifi & Cedeno can all play 2nd.
  8. Boston already has Lowell & Can Neifi be traded before June 1st?
  9. Jenkins will make 7.5M. in 06', 7M in 07' & has an option of 9M for 08' with a $500,000 buyout. Burnitz was on the verge of making 7M for the Cubs in 06', but the option was declined, so I doubt the Cubs have any interest in Jenkins, even if he was available.
  10. Jenkins 05: 292/375/513 Burnitz 05: 258/322/435 Plus Jenkins is 5 years younger. I really doubt the brewers trade him unless they are blown away prospect wise or it's a midseason salary dump. Burnitz 04: 283/356/559. career- 255/348/485 Jenkins 04: 264/325/473. career- 281/349/508 BURNITZ=JENKINS Burnitz 04- in Colorado, Career- on a severe downswing. Hasn't approached his career numbers since 2001 in a normal home park. Jenkins 04- admittedly horrible, career- on an upswing, 03 and 05 are his best seasons, and nearly identical. While I agree that their careers look similar so far, and they are remarkably similar types of players....there is no comparison going forward. Burnitz career numbers will keep dropping. Jenkins will at least be maintained for a couple more years. So, yeah for historical purposes Jenkins= Burnitz, but for the purposes of getting production in RF for the 2006 Cubs and beyond....it's not even close. Excellent breakdown & analysis.
  11. Jenkins 05: 292/375/513 Burnitz 05: 258/322/435 Plus Jenkins is 5 years younger. I really doubt the brewers trade him unless they are blown away prospect wise or it's a midseason salary dump. Burnitz 04: 283/356/559. career- 255/348/485 Jenkins 04: 264/325/473. career- 281/349/508 BURNITZ=JENKINS
  12. I think he'll re-surface when more is known about the status of arbitration eligible players, i.e., which players are tendered vs. non-tendered. Just a guess. On what date will we know which players are tendered and non-tendered? Dec. 20th
  13. The M's aren't very deep in the OF: Reed,Ibanez,Everett & Ichiro.
  14. Who would you take in RF, if the Cubs didn't trade for Tejada, realistically?
  15. Didn't the Cubs pound Vazquez into submission in one of the 1st games of the season LY? Hopefully, that trend continues!
  16. Some people bring something to the table, other don't. um.....he brings a lot more to the table than you do. Defending posts like that is laughable!
  17. Most realistic list: Knowing that Abreu,Dunn,Green & Tracy won't be available: Huff Wilkerson Mench Kearns Ibanez Bradley
  18. Some people bring something to the table, other don't.
  19. I disagree. If they fill RF with Juan Encarnacion, then I would say this team still has several holes to fill. There is no way this team could go into 2006 under the impression they could win anything with Murton, Encarnacion, Cedeno and Perez/Walker hitting at the bottom of the order. Sure they can, if the Cubs get 60+ starts from Wood & Prior they are a contending team.
  20. IIRC, Macias called Murton "Las Narajas" or something like that.
  21. he wants the cubs to trade Z for tejada. i guess he hasnt heard that hendry said neither prior or z are going anywhere and that tejada denied he wanted to be traded. ...and then go sign millwood, washburn, weaver to replace Z in the rotation. So basically taking on $20M of payroll, leaving no room for RF or SS. The Cubs have their version of a LH Weaver: His name is Glendon Rusch
  22. Rogers is basically saying trading Z for Tejada would be a good move.
  23. Prediction: Pitt 23 Bears 17 The Bears offense will be better than expected & the absence of Brown & Harris is going to hurt the Bears. The Steelers need this game more & they are @ home.
