I don't agree with TT's proposal, but within recent memory the NCAA had co-national champions with USC and LSU, so there's one example of a "multiple champion" sport. But again, I'm against TT's proposal. Just too drastic, I think.

or the Saberhagen one I presume they were large deals that Bonilla and Saberhagen elected to spread out over the long haul after the fact...but still. Even better. Bonilla had 5.9m and 1 year left on his deal that Steve Phillips didn't want to pay, so of course he agreed to this beaut of an arrangement.. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703426004575339013108198050.html I guess this is a lesson: No matter how bad you think Jim Hendry has been, he hasn't been as bad as Steve Phillips. or the Saberhagen one I actually knew of the Bonilla money but not the Saberhagen money. For those who don't know: Bonilla is owed $1.2 million annually for the next 25 years, and Saberhagen is owed $250,000 per year through 2029. -

I would hope so, but I don't see an investor looking to take on that kind of debt. Knowing nothing about finance of this magnitude, I'd guess they'd either do a debt restructuring or some sort of complex bankruptcy? -
It's just going to move the 5 spot back a day. They can't really skip it. The good news is that the 5 spot only has to pitch once in the next 2 weeks. When are Wells and Cashner due back?

Holy crap, I, like many others, knew they were having financial difficulty, but I had no idea it was this bad. $625 million in the hole. Good luck trying to find an investor to take that on. Ideally, but then I remember the other day when he let a shaky at best Dempster bat in the bottom of the 5th with the bases loaded and a RH pitcher on the mound and Fukudome sitting on the bench. Yes. That was a huge WTF moment for me. It was clear that Demp was gassed, and then the next inning he gave up 3 runs.

To be fair, at least about Fukudome, De La Rosa is a lefty and he's probably just playing the matchups to avoid the Fukucopter. How is De La Rosa against lefties? I posted Fukudome's 2010 numbers to show that sitting him when he's as hot as he is out of some fear that "he can't hit lefties" is ridiculous. Here are De La Rosa's numbers against LH hitters: .240 .326 .359 .685 Here are Fukudome's numbers against lefties in 2008: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=fukudko01&year=2008&t=b#plato::none The idea that he has to sit against them came from how bad he was against them in 2009. In 2008 and 2010 he was at least serviceable, and when he's on a tear like this he should be out there. Fukudome should be starting today. Not to disagree (because I don't), but the wind is blowing straight out to left, so that's probably why he's going all-righty tonight. With as sluggish as their power has been seems like it would be smarter to hedge your bets and get the guy getting on base at an insane clip in there. But this IS Quade we're talking about... You'd think, but you gotta figure he'd be first off the bench against a RH reliever in a PH situation. Because, you know, that would be "playing the odds" and stuff.

That's inexcusable. It's becoming harder and harder to be optimstic about Quade. Was he this bad last year, too, or were we all just so glad to be rid of Lou that we didn't notice? Also, Paul Sullivan tweets that the wind is blowing straight out to left.

No pictures because I'm lazy. The Cubs have been playing poorly, and really need to get it together and start a winning streak. I had a 9-game winning streak in 2008 starting the game threads... something I hope to duplicate here. Barney had his first homer last night, and Fukudome had 5 hits, but 4 errors did them in. Win, Cubs. If the Cubs win tonight, tomorrow's game threads will have pictures, complete with a gorilla giving the finger. (fin)
