I love my baby daughter, I love cheeseburgers. clearly I am not talking about the same emotion. similarly, I hate the guy who murdered my aunt, and I hate the Cardinals. again, not talking about the same emotion. our language can be fairly imprecise, so sometimes you go with the word that's convenient. I personally don't think that we sound like Sox fans when saying "I hate the Cardinals" because Sox fans typically aren't passionate enough about baseball to say that all too often. when I start saying "Sox suck" when clearly they do not, then come talk to me about sounding like a Sox fan.
