  1. Too bad Hendry didn't offer a similar package.
  2. The blame should come from over Hendry's head. They've allowed it to go on this long.
  3. \ 3 game winning streaks against the brew crew are apparently huge. Here's to a 15 game losing streak starting out with the Mets. I want Dusty humiliated and Hendry to look like the idiot he is. I want them both gone. But I don't understand those who want Baker fired right now but are willing to give Hendry another opportunity next year to overpay for mediocrity and "toolsy" players. I will say this for the players, if they wanted Baker gone, they could've laid down against the Brewers thus pretty much solidifying Baker's departure. If the Cubs somehow play well enough to finish .500 or a few games below, does Hendry try to re-sign him? They COULD have, but thankfully I think we have players with a bit more integrity than to intentionally tank. Players are starting to speak out against Dusty in the media, and I'm sure that clubhouse is just poision right now, what with the Dusty-created divide between "his boys" and everyone else. I hope we just tank like never before and get Dusty and Hendry the hell out of here.
  4. I'll bet a month of premium with the first person who takes me up on it that Dusty will survive the break.
  5. I'm sure Dusty is a good person. This news makes it a little harder for me to dislike him as a manager though. Pull through, and you always have buddies here at NSBB.
  6. Todd is one of my favorites. If he does go, I hope he wins a ring and calls Hendry an idiot during the trophy ceremony. I'd laugh my head off.
  7. Because the fact that giving HFA to one league because it's an odd-numbered year instead of an even-numbered year on the calendar is SO MUCH more appropriate?? I think it's cool that the game means something. Frankly, I don't think it hurts a thing. And "This Time It Counts" isn't the promo that they use anymore. That slogan only lives because posters on message boards keep bringing it up over and over again. I never once said the every other year thing was appropriate either. Please don't put words in my mouth. I think it should be tied to best regular season record. If they want to make the ASG mean something, have like a $3 million purse or so to be split among the winning team, or a charity decided upon by the winning team. Nothing motivates like money.
  8. I don't care about a "decent candidate" at the moment. This team isn't going anywhere. The season is over. I just want a warm body in there (not belonging to Dusty Baker or any member of the coaching staff) to take us the rest of the way, and then we can evaluate the situation in the off-season.
  9. Agreed, if it counts, then take the 25-30 best players, and I want to see people bunting, throwing inside pitches, running over catchers, etc. None of this every team gets a representative crap. Yeah, the "every team has a player" stuff grates. I say the 25 (or 30 or however many) best players, with at least one player required on the roster for the team of the host stadium.
  10. You're gonna be waiting here a long time, Roast. A long time.
  11. I still enjoy the all-star game. It doesn't hurt anything, and it's fun for the fans. I hate the home-field provision, though. How the World Series could possibly come down to an at-bat in July between a Devil Rays pitcher and a Pirates hitter just infuriates me to no end.
  12. If Maz had never hit that homer, he wouldn't be in. Just like if Ozzie Smith hadn't made some highlight-reel defensive plays, he woudln't be in either.
  13. The Cubs have gotten worse every year since 2003. He lost control of the clubhouse at the end of '04. Players are starting to speak out in the media about his favoritism for "his boys". This team is the worst fundimentally I think I've ever seen. You know it's sad when you can go down to a local park and see a bunch of 8 year olds who are more fundimentally sound than a major-league team. Dusty wants to be "one of the boys" and therefore does not make the difficult decisions. He does not punish poor play, and therefore allows it to continue. Dusty needs to go. Yes, we'd probably be bad with or without him, but we'd be nowhere near as bad without him.
  14. I could not have said it any better. Bravo, good sir.
  15. The Astros have been to the World Series in my lifetime. The Cubs haven't. Enough said.
  16. Who the hell cares? Ditch Dusty, put ANYONE else in there as interim, and then get someone good in the off-season. As long as Dusty is gone, I don't care if Don Baylor manages the rest of the way.
  17. Well, with it being publicly known now that Hendry will "evaluate" Baker's standing over the break, a 3-game losing streak would have hurt him a hell of a lot more than a 3-game winning streak. With Baker's most recent performance in the back of his mind, I'd be willing to bet money that he survvies the break.
  18. Ok, that title sounds bad, but who here wasn't secretly hoping the Cubs would have lost at least 3 of 4 to the Brewers and gone into the break on a down note, pretty much signaling the end for Dusty and his merry band of idiots? Instead, they have to win 3 in a row and look pretty good doing it. Dusty won't be fired over the break, and will probably be here the rest of the year. This team always does the exact opposite of what you want them to do!
  19. I really don't think they'd be able to sign him for all that cheap. Ideally, he'd be signed for a low base/high incentive contract, but I think one of the other 29 teams would be willing to give him a decent salary in order to take a chance on him. I would hate to see him go, as I've had a man crush on him ever since the 20K game.
  20. Hendry is probably only doing this because he's getting pressure from the Trib. He realizes that he may have to sacrifice "his" guys in order to save his own sorry hide. But, if the end result is Dusty leaving, I'm all for it.
  21. His philosophy will be some hackeneyed theory about god knows what, instead of his philosophy being "sign/trade for good players"
  22. Lots of funny looking people in those pictures. I kid. I kid.
