  1. Aram grounds to 3rd. Bautista bobbled, but recovered in time to make the out.
  2. I wouldn't have been entirely against it if Riot would be slumping, but with as hot as he's been, you let him hit away there.
  3. Nice heads-up by Riot going to 2nd when McLouth missed the cutoff man.
  4. Come on, Riot. ...is he bunting, as hot as he's been?
  5. Cyst on his eye Eyelid, or eyeball? Is this a DL thing or a day-to-day thing? How does one obtain a cyst on one's eyeball?
  6. Out of the inning. Grounded to first, flipped to Demp for the out.
  7. DeRo falls on the mound in right, didn't make the play. He's ok.
  8. Sanchez singles to right. 1st and 2nd, no out, Bay up.
  9. McLouth is becoming a pain in the ass. 18-game hit streak.
  10. You should make it run over the Pirates logo.
  11. Slippery slope arguments make for poor logic. How so? Most of the pro-DH arguments on here are "pitchers are poor hitters. I don't want to see that, so to make the game more exciting, we shall have someone replace them at the plate." Pitchers do not have to bat. So then why not replace a poor fielder with a defensive wizard? Everyone likes to see great plays in the field, right? Wouldn't that make the game more exciting, rather than see someone make an error, or simply let the ball go past for a hit? Also, let me pose another question to those who are anti-DH: If it meant a hard salary cap, would you be willing to trade the DH in the National League?
  12. If you can't play the field as well as hit, then you shouldn't be able to play. So what if we can see aging sluggers who can barely move anymore pad their career stats for a few years over in the AL? Like Tim said, if you're going to replace the pitcher, why not have 9 DH's and 9 fielders? Or, you could have guys who can just field and not hit. Just imagine how much longer Ozzie Smith could have been making great defensive plays had this rule been in effect!
  13. Whoever had April 18th wins.
  14. Let's say it's the bottom of the 6th, the game is tied 1-1. The opposing pitcher has been mowing down your offense all day. In the top of the 7th, 6-7-8 is due up in the order. 6 and 7 make outs. You walk the 8th guy intentionally to force the opposing manager to remove his pitcher. Then say your team scores some runs off the bullpen and wins the game. It was because you were able to force the other manager's hand and force him to act. There is nothing like this in the AL.
  15. Why do all of the positions you take have to be demeaning to anyone that doesn't think the same way? Now, extending your logic... Let's expand rosters to 35 guys and put entirely different teams out there for offense and defense. That way, we can sign Barry Bonds to hit and get Chris Walker back to play left for him. Theriot can stay at SS, but we can see Hoffpauir or Fox hit for that position instead. Wouldn't that be much more fun? Just find nine guys who can hit and nine guys who can field. Much more exciting. Why all these requirements for players who can excel at everything? They're too damn hard to find. Winner.
  16. But....isn't that just another difference in how the game is played? Rose's hits record is one of those that is both really impressive and potentially breakable one day. Same with DiMaggio's hitting streak record and Ryan's 7 no-hitters. I don't know if anyone will come close to DiMaggio's hit streak in my lifetime. That's just a truly epic streak. The fact that even half that amount is one heck of a streak speaks volumes right there. I just don't think that players today could stay hot enough and focused enough to get at least one base hit for 57 or more consecutive games. One thing that isn't brought up much about DiMaggio's streak is that a) it took 2 highlight-reel plays that night to end it, and b) he had another 17-game streak immediately afterward. And there were fewer pitchers in DiMaggio's day, no black pitchers, etc (same crap people say about Ruth), but he didn't have the advantages of videotape to watch his AB's and tendencies of opposing pitchers, either.
  17. http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/news/...=.jsp&c_id=cin DUSTY HATES DA YOUNG PLAYERZ! I know you're being sarcastic, but just wait. A lot of us cut Dusty a ton of slack in 2003, but then saw the error of our ways. And Votto is the exception, not the rule when it comes to Dusty. I guarantee if his OBP was 40 or so points higher than his batting average, Dusty would bench him. Dusty likes his "agressiveness" at the plate, because it's called "hitting," not "walking," dude. Just wait until Votto is hacking at everything, struggling to post an OBP over .300 and striking out 1 in every 3.5 AB's. Then praise Dusty.
  18. Yeah, Reed Johnson sure does suck. :eyeroll:
  19. What we really need is more accountability for the umpires.
