  1. Brewers. Meh. I think he means that team with a 120-119 Pythagorean record over the last two seasons, including 27-30 this season. And yet, they have enough talent and resources to make a run. Who said that their talent was playing at full potential the last season and a half. I think your unhealthy angst towards anything Wisconsin is blinding you into worrying about the Brewers a little too much. I hope that's not true. I'm from Wisconsin, and the Cubs are on a 7-game streak. We're not all bad! And just so I'm clear, what is the deadline for starting the game thread before someone else can jump in and start it? I hope it's ok that it might not be up until 330 or so tomorrow if we win tonight. They'll be the Mega Cubs tomorrow if they win tonight. After that, if they win 2 more, they'll be the Ultra Cubs.
  2. Haha, thanks, but I don't think my wife would approve.
  3. Yup. Pull him early and keep him fresh for Game 4... ..... oh, wait....
  4. In cavernous ballparks like Petco, you need speedy, sure-handed OF'ers to chase down all the flyballs. Too bad Pie isn't still around.
  5. I know! I could really get used to this "winning" thing I've heard so much about.
  6. I hate the west coast. The games are always so late. And I won't be able to stay up for more than the first few innings tonight because I have to be to work early tomorrow. I should be able to stay up for Wednesday's game in it's entirety, though. Stupid west coast.
  7. Sorry about the delay in getting the game thread up. Should they win tonight, tomorrows game thread won't be posted until at least 11 am central, and probably not until 330 or so because that's when I get off of work. However, be patient as it WILL get posted well before the game. Anyway, tonight our Cubbies go for 8 in a row out west over the slumping Padres. Shawn Estes was slated to start, but broke his thumb falling down some stairs. You can take the man off of the Cubs, but you can't take the Cubs out of the man, I guess. Tonight, Big Z takes the hill http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6559.jpg 7-1, 2.33 ERA, 1.19 WHIP Look at that face. He knows he's gonna win. His birthday was yesterday, and as a present to himself, he's going to pick up his 8th win of the year. For the Padres, some guy named Cha Seung Baek is starting in place of Estes http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/7398.jpg 1-1, 5.32 ERA, 1.32 WHIP That's the look of a man who knows he's defeated. He doesn't stand a chance tonight against Z and the Super Cubs. Let's make it 8 in a row!
  8. If they win tomorrow night, they'll be Mega Cubs. What the hell do you mean "IF" ??? Touche
  9. If they win tomorrow night, they'll be Mega Cubs. 10 games = ultra? That's the plan.
  10. unless wood blows a save in the ninth inning of game seven of the world series... then we go find budhouse and tear him limb from limb Knowing our luck as Cubs fans, he'll have saved 40 in a row giving up 3 runs in 45 appearances leading up to that game 7 WS blown save. I'm not sure my heart can handle another situation like this. '84 killed my innocence. '03 almost killed me. '84, game 4 - I can still see Lee Smith giving up that HR to popeye arms Steve Gravey, Henry Cotto climbing the fence in a vain effort to catch it - man, I hated Lee Smith. After that I knew it was over, sure the Cubs had an 3-0 lead in game 5 but, I knew it was over. Just like Game 6. After Kerry hit the 3-run homer in Game 7 and everyone was going ballistic, I knew they weren't going to win. I had that game on in the background but barely paid any attention to it. You just don't come back after a Game 6-type loss. You just don't.
  11. If they win tomorrow night, they'll be Mega Cubs.
  12. May 19 to June 2, 2001 when they won 12 straight. I remember that. I was at Game #11 of that streak in Milwaukee. Maybe Julio Zuleta performed voodoo on the bats again in spring training. I thought he performed the voodoo shortly before the start of the winning streak. Which btb, if anybody remembers, then 12 game winning straight followed the 10 game losing streak..Interesting stretch of 22 games, to say the least. I thought it was an 8-game losing streak. They lost 8 then won 12.
  13. I fear the Reds in a few years, Dusty be damned. Even if they hold on to Dunn, a 3-4-5 of Votto, Bruce, Dunn is deadly, and that rotation is similar to the one we had in 2004. The Reds could be really good for a really long time. They could accelerate the process if they would get a manager who knows what he's doing.
  14. If we could sign him to an extention, I think he'd be worth Hill and Pie. Can you imagine Z and Sabathia 1-2? Our weakest link right now is the rotation, and he'd give us another legit starter should we make the playoffs.

  16. It's not so bad when you know it's coming, though. That's why all the losing as a Cubs fan the past couple of bad seasons didn't bother me that much. I hate Baseball Prospectus for convincing me we were big favorites against the Diamondbacks. And Devin Hester for giving the Bears an early lead against Indianapolis. Yeah, I didn't expect much from the NLDS last year. Except for this past series, Arizona has given us fits ever since they came into the league.

  18. I wish they'd just play the organ and let the crowd thing. I think that'd be fun. Or just let Ron Santo do it. It was good as a tribute the year after Harry died, but it needs to be retired. Let Ronny do it.
  19. Jay Bruce continues his tear with a homer today. Cripes almighty. Not looking forward to facing that kid 16 games a year for the next God knows how long.
  20. I never liked the "foul tip into the catcher's glove" rule. Maybe it's just me, but if you hit the ball in any fashion, it becomes a batted ball. If it goes into the catcher's glove, he caught it, and you're out.
  21. Yeah. This is pretty old news, too. One of the original cast is going to be in the new series, too.
  22. As awesome as Soriano is, Glenallen Hill has more awesomeness in his pinky finger than Soriano does in his whole body. Uhhhhhhhhh...what? Hill had an awesome homer, but Soriano is actually, y'know, useful. I know. You're right. But I had a huge man-crush on Glenallen when he was here, even before the homer. I love a guy who can come off the bench and is always a threat to homer. Plus Glenallen's game face was badass.
