If he nets us Sabathia, I will not miss him Any Sabathia deal should hinge on him signing to an extention, otherwise he's not worth Pie. I disagree enormously, considering Sabathia would make us the favorites to win the World Series. But I don't want to clear out the farm (considering we'd have to send Hill, probably) for a rental. I'd want some long-term assurances.

When you say the bullpen you mean Marmol and Wood. Everyone else should be rested. Right. And the thing is, I pretty much trust everyone in the bullpen except Cotts to have a good outing more often than not. Even if Marquis only goes 5 or 6, Lou should be able to avoid using them with some combination of Eyre, Howry, Lieber, Cotts, and Wuertz. This is an extremely deep bullpen. Well, Cotts was good in AAA. I'm willing to give him a shot until he proves otherwise. I did like the trio of Ascanio/Marmol/Wood, though.

The situation we have with Marmol and Wood tonight is why a good long reliever is so valuable to a team. I've been saying it for years: A good long man is worth his weight in gold. Did Lieber pitch last night? If Marquis goes 5, there's no reason Liebs can't go 2 or possibly 3 if he's fully rested.

Hell of a game last night, from what I hear. Too bad I missed all of it. Stupid west coast and stupid job making me get up at stupid 5 am to go in early. Ahem... The Padres throw some schmuck by the name of Wilfredo Ledezma http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/7086.jpg 0-2, 4.25 ERA, 1.53 WHIP Yet another pitcher the Cubs should have no problems knocking around. I'm confident the Mega Cubs will win despite Marquis's best efforts. This is the mark of a winner.... They're beating up on the teams they should beat, and they're winning 1-run ballgames. The inability to do either has hurt us in previous years. Let's just hope they're not peaking too early. Go Cubs!

To be honest, the Cubs miss both Peavy and Young in this series, so..... Because of injury, not because the 3 game series happens to roll over the wrong part of the rotation. But it is a valid point. We do, however, face Maddux, who has been very good at PetCo this year.

They'll be the Mega Cubs tomorrow if they win tonight. After that, if they win 2 more, they'll be the Ultra Cubs. . . . and two wins after that makes them the MECHA-CUBS! I was thinking "Hyper Cubs", but you know, if they get to 12 in a row I'll do that.

I hope you don't start the game thread for a while, my man. I'm having way too much fun right now. And yeah.... Edmonds may have to play in that spacious OF. At least he's starting to hit a little bit. He may get me to the point where I don't loathe the very sight of him, but it'll be a while yet.
