  1. Does putting crap in a ziploc baggie actually work? Yeah, it really does. I don't even want to know how you know this.
  2. The mid-season trade probably hurt him. Had he been traded in May or early June, he'd have probably won it going away.
  3. He deserved it.
  4. They're really yellow, though. I don't know why it bugs me that much. When I saw him talking on ESPN the other day I didn't hear a single word he said. I was just focusing on his teeth. But I'm sure nobody cares much about that, because he's dominant and awesome on the mound.
  5. Seriously. Dude, go to a dentist. uhhhhh Ah yes, I forgot not to make any dental references when IMB might be lurking. My bad. No, I think he was just mad you said dentist and not orthodontist. Fine. Allow me to rephrase.... Mr. Lincecum: Please go see a professional who has the education and the ability to fix your gross teeth.
  6. Never underestimate the power of home. Despite everything coming out of the Peavy camp, the Braves have a much better shot than we think they do because of their proximity to his home. Some people can pack up and leave and never look back, others like to stay close to one place for as long as they can. Maybe Peavy is just one of those guys.

  8. If/when we get Peavy, the board will crash. It'll make the massive user rush seen during the Nomar and Harden trades seem like peanuts.

  10. It was reported today that Preacher Roe, star Dodgers pitcher of the "Boys of Summer" teams of the 40's and 50's, and Herb Score, one of the most famous "what could have been" stories, have both died. Roe was 92, Score was 75. Roe was a multiple-time all-star in his career, and was absolutely dominant from 49-52. Score could have easily been one of the all-time greats, but was never the same after getting hit in the face with a line drive. He made a name for himself in the broadcast booth with the Indians after he retired. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/baseball/mlb/11/10/preacher.roe.obit.ap/index.html?eref=si_mostpopular Roe's Obit http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/wireStory?id=6229268 Score's obit http://www.baseball-reference.com/r/roepr01.shtml Roe on baseballreference http://www.baseball-reference.com/s/scorehe01.shtml Score on baseball-reference.
  11. If they don't pay Wood, my fear is we'll see Remlinger/Hawkins/Howry/Eyre 5.0 and waste much of that room on second tier relief arms. It makes logical sense to let Wood walk, but I'm pretty sure I would prefer they just bring him back at some reasonable rate. And seeing as he likes it here, I'm sure Wood would give us a discount.
  12. If Theriot was involved in the deal, you would have to imagine that Hendry has a plan in place to fill the hole at SS. DeRosa and Fontenot are both questionable candidates. It's also possible that if the Peavy trade gets finalized before Friday, maybe the Cubs would take the Dempster offer off the table and offer it up to Furcal. I would sure hope so. I'd love Furcal. I'd take him at the expense of Dempster, but not at the expense of Kerry Wood. Only because my man love for Kerry Wood borders on unhealthy. I'd make a lousy GM. I'm too sentimental. I've never been a big fan of creating one hole to fill another, as we'd be doing in this case if this rumor is true (not that we really have a "hole" in our rotation, but we'd be creating one at SS to improve), but I think I could make the exception in this case. One of our strengths last year was that we didn't really have a true "need" anywhere. Sure, we could have upgraded in some places, but we were pretty set everywhere on the field. If Hendry doesn't lock up a SS before Opening Day, it may be a point of contention during the season.
  13. I'm skeptical about the rumor, but it does make sense. This would allow the Padres to fill three needs with one trade. I know Theriot takes a beating here on NSBB because he's not the most sexy athlete, but his numbers last year were impressive for a SS. Where did all the Theriot talks start from? I don't think I ever saw it Some source at Desipio is claiming that the deal is almost final and Theriot is part of the deal. I'm taking it with a big grain of salt, but if Riot goes to SD, does that make Cedeno our starting SS or do we heavily pursue Furcal? Or maybe we get Greene coming our way?
  14. So Olney and Rosenthal just reported 2 very different stories. Which is more reliable (or least unreliable) of those 2? So Peavy to Cubs, Cubs prospects to 3rd team, and pitching prospects from 3rd team to Padres? Any speculation on who this 3rd team might be? I hope we can work a deal out before the Pads get frustrated and send him to Atlanta.
  15. Did you know Geovany Soto is a natural lefthander? The Commissioner makes him play right-handed so it's more fair to the rest of the league.
  16. Does he have an official website or MySpace/Facebook page we can flood? I tried to find it in Google but found nothing. Actually, annoyingly enough when I typed in "Jake Peavy Official Website" the #1 return result was the Atlanta Braves Official Site Great, even Google is betting against us.
  17. :( God dangit. I knew it was too good to be true. Yes, I know it's probably speculation, but where there's smoke, there's usually fire.
  18. What position did the bear play?
  19. That's a lot of money on our DL between Bradley and Furcal I'd much rather have Ibanez than Bradley. He stays healthier and isn't a total nutcase.
  20. If only the same could be said for Adam Dunn as well. He will never ever ever ever EVER be a Cub. Ever.
  21. I think I'd shoot myself if my name was Gorkys.
  22. Surely we can pull this trade off, and then see if some team will take on Marquis for this year without us picking anything up. I don't care if we get a player in return who will never go above AA in his career. Just get his salary off the books. If we give up Shark and Marshall, I'm not too crazy about dumping Marquis for nothing. If Harden and Z or some other combination of two pitchers spend any time on the DL, we'll lose Gaudin from the pen, and be forced to dig for a Glendon Rusch type of pickup to plug the hole. Either that, or throw in Gooz and hope his arm stays attached, or pray for 2007 Hill to emerge from the depths of Lake Michigan. I'm all for going for Peavy, but it'll probably cost us depth. As much as I don't like Marquis, I wouldn't give away the insurance policy he serves as for nothing more than saving some money. It's not like that $7 mil we'll save by dumping him is going to help add depth if we really are also bucking to bring back Demp. That money could be used to partially pay for Wood, or a bat like Bradley or Ibanez.
  23. Threeways are hard as hell to get going. Especially convincing the wife to make it work... Oh. Not THAT kind of a threeway. Heh. #-o
