  1. With all the off days at the start of the season Marshall won't be needed till the end of the month. Z is going on full rest.
  2. I wouldn't say they're meaningless. A game in April counts the same in the standings as a game in September does. This won't be our only tough loss of the season, nor will it be our worst. But if we're ever at the point where we're wishing for an extra game or two on the Cardinals or whoever, we can point back to games like this that should have been won. If you want to look at it that way, we're actually even with the Cardinals on games blown - they were up two but gave up four in the ninth on Monday to lose. That being said, I do agree that this was a tough loss. It's one thing if your starter gets rocked or if you get shut down by a good pitcher or even a decent one. But to lose a game like this that they should have won is tough. Cubs still have the advantage with the pitching matchups in the last two games, so win those and you're fine. Agreed.
  3. If Gregg's in the setup role, then not many games are going to get to Marmol because the lead will be gone by then. Marmol is far too valuable to close. The only way I'd be ok with him moving to closer is if Guzman steps up to be Marmol Jr. and we don't really lose anything there. Otherwise, I'd rather just about anyone else in the pen be the closer.

  5. Excellent. He was missing bats and was hitting 92-93 routinely with the fastball and was able to dial it up to 96-97 when needed. Did he show any signs of being bothered by that shoulder or whatever it was?
  6. How did Harden look? I missed the entire game.
  7. Will Gregg be the next Alfonseca/Rojas/Heredia/Aguilera?
  8. True, and I completely agree with you, but as one of my professors noted, stricter regulations might not deter people who are already risking their own life and the lives of others by choosing to drive drunk. If you're dumb and drunk enough to drive under the influence in the first place, you're probably not thinking logically about consequences anyway. True, but harsher penalties would keep these people off the streets longer once caught, improving public safety. I really don't know why any politician of note hasn't fought like hell for uber-strict drunnk driving laws. Anyone who opposes it will have it used against them endlessly the next time they run for re-election.
  9. Those of you familiar with Miller Park.... Does it have an actual "bleacher" section with the grandstand metal bleacher seats and stuff? My wife and I would possibly like to go to a game there in May and would possibly like the bleacher experience. I sat in RF once several years ago, but those were actual seats.
  10. I wouldn't go that far, if only because of our country's stupid liquor laws, which practically forces those 18-21 to go off and hide when they drink, which contributes to them driving in dangerous situations. Also, if the death is that of another drunk driver, or a passenger that willingly got into a car with a drunk driver, I wouldn't want it to be a life sentence. But these people are such habitual repeat offenders, I do think it needs to be much harsher than it is now. I can maybe see your side of the argument. I still disagree, though. However, the drunk driver that killed Nick Adelhart was 22.
  11. I'd love to see a law in which a drunken driving death results in a mandatory life sentence.
  12. Look at it this way, though: Anything that lands Soto on the DL would kill a mortal man.
  13. Not that it will come as any shock, but tonight's A's/Angels game has been postponed.
  14. Tonight's A's/Angels game has been postponed tonight for obvious reasons.
  15. Do not EVER root for the Cardinals unless you absolutely have to. In other news, off days suck.
  16. I watched the game and was into it last night but this is still what I'm most excited about. Cubs > Bears Root canal > Bears
  17. Cubs win!! Woo! Now let's beat the crap out of the Brewers this weekend.
  18. Their children shall be belligerent and numerous. Futurama references? Nerd. Also, bite my shiny metal ass. Bite my glorious golden ass. Game's over, losers. I have all the money! Compare your lives to mine and then kill yourselves.
  19. Nice to see Guzman finally made it to this level after seemingly spending 6,000 years in the minors.
  20. Cripes, the stands are deserted. I know the Astros are down by 5 in the bottom of the 9th, but still. My God, you might as well get the aisles swept while you're at it.

  22. If a guy is gonna slump, this is the kind of slump to be in.
