  1. Now I will admit that I'm quite rusty for not having visited the game threads much at all in the past 2 seasons, but I'm pretty sure you're the main reason I stopped. Enjoy them again, my man. Go to your user control panel and put me on your "foe" list. There, I'm ignored and you can enjoy the game threads again. you're welcome.
  2. The whole Pie and Patterson fiascos really make me mad when i think about them. They should be case studies for every organization on how NOT to handle rookie development at the ML level.
  3. Heyward and Glaus really ought to be flipped in that order. Not complaining, though. The less we have to pitch to Heyward the better. i think bobby cox always works the rooks in at the bottom of the order. So he can give them PT without people freaking out when they go 0-3 a couple times in a row. HMM, I WISH WE WOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT. Colvin had better get adequate playing time if he's going to be here, otherwise send him down so he can play every day.
  4. It's a powder keg around here, baby. Just light one match and watch the whole thing explode. It's really kind of funny. Forgive me if I'm mistaken here, but don't you normally explode? I made one response to Truffle's post, and the attitude of the entire thread changed. People accuse me of having the same behavior that they exhibit themselves.

  7. I guess Baker and Hill can't be any worse than Fontenot and Soto.
  8. I don't ordinarily use green for sarcasm, but some people's sarcasm detectors are seriously broken and need all the help they can get. I was simply making light of the whole "post negative comment about how the cubs look this year" "WELL THAT'S IT, I'M DONE. GONNA NOT WATCH ANY MORE THIS SEASON" stupidity that has plagued this board of late. Sometimes you gotta fight fire with fire. you mean like the posts you made after the first two innings of the first game of the season What, when I said the Cubs were going to lose THAT GAME, down 8-3 after 2? I may have posted it, but I'd bet every penny I will ever make again in my life that I wasn't anywhere close to in the minority. People may not have posted it, but if you're going to tell me that I'm the only one who thought that way, you're a fool.
  9. So what's the general perception on Wells? I don't think anyone really expects him to have a season as good or better than last season. So, how far does he regress? I really like his story and hope he sticks around for a while, but a 148 ERA+ really seems unlikely again.
  10. That's probably an unnecessary overreaction. Really? Unless the tailor was in his or her very first day on the job, how do you misspell the name of a team that has been playing in the same city for the past 52 years now? It makes your team look bush league.

  12. Wow. Someone's gotta get fired over that.
  13. Guess I'd better go follow the Yankees forever now.
  14. Exactly. Leaving him as the long man is ultimately a waste of him over the course of the season if he can keep pitching anything like this. He'll face many more critical situations as the setup guy. The long man is usually being tossed out there because the starter got rocked. I'd rather have Marshall available when the game is much more winnable or they need to hold the lead. Maybe they are afraid of him being good in the setup role because it would make the decision tough if a starter falters. I sure hope not. You shouldn't assemble your team to avoid tough decisions.

I'd rather have Marshall available when the game is much more winnable or they need to hold the lead. I'd agree just as long as he's not shoehorned into the "8th inning only" role. He can go more than 1 inning. If he's put in at the start of the 7th and pitches the 7th and 8th to get to Marmol then I'd be all for it. Not that this would be an all the time thing, but just implemented when the situation dictates.
  16. Let's have more people complaining about the quality of posts without attempting to make some sort of interesting post, okay? I personally thought it was quite the interesting discussion and far above the usual "boy, the Cubs look crappy tonight." "ZOMG GLAD I KNOW NOW SO I DONT WATCH EVER AGAIN" crap. NSBB needs more discussion like that. I learned quite a bit and Kyle has become one of my favorite posters.
  17. I think he's fine being used how he is... a guy that can go more than one inning out of the pen to relieve the starter and get it to the setup guy and closer. I don't think he'd be a failure in the setup role-- far from it. I just think that's not the optimal use of his talent.
  18. Given the discussions of probability, mean and regression to the mean in yesterday' Game Day thread, I'll propose a probability, p, for this event of .05 well, I'll stick by my "the law of averages is a bunch of crap" theory that truffle was so nice to archive for me, and say that the Cubs open at Wrigley at .500 or better. Cubs win tonight 5-3. Wells goes 7, gives up 3, and Marmol gets his first save of the season.
  19. A win tonight coupled by 2 of 3 against Dusty's Reds and we're ok heading home.
  20. Yours wasn't going to be as awesome as this one. Don't stand in the way of awesome. I was hoping to improve on my overall 9-4 game thread record. Vanilla Ice, if the Cubs lose today, it is 100% your fault.
  21. OK, I said last night that I'd post the game thread this morning. Whatever.
  22. You should be the very very last person on this board to accuse anyone of acting stupid. And there is a difference between acting stupid and actually being stupid. I can change. You can't.
