If it was up to me, he would be there. They'll justify it with veteran BS but it's more about keeping a rectum at peace.

I also like the idea of a 6 man rotation from here on out. I would probably set a 75-85 PC on them in September. Also, get Zobrist (espec. him), Rizzo, Russell, and Bryant some extra rest as well.

That's proven that it's safer to take a bat but do you pass on Strasburg who like Prior was once in a decade pitching prospect coming out of college? I would have drafted him. That's a bit of an extreme example considering Strasburg's stature and the quality of that particular draft, but even then you have Pollock and Trout in that first round. In that position I probably would have drafted Ackley, and hopefully had better player development than the Mariners or the foresight to trade him before he busted. In the Top 5 you need to not squander the opportunity, look at the pre-Huntington Pirates for a great example of what happens when you do. You have to factor finances when looking at crappy Bucs drafts of the 00s as it's incorrect to assume Bullington was the BPA similar as to why Brazelton was selected ahead of Teixiera. That's a financial mistake 1st.

The reason why I bring up Strasburg and my disbelief of the absolute of not taking a collegiate pitcher is that had you drafted Ackley (#2 consensus pick) ahead of him, your principal would have caused the wrong pick. Ill take my chances of selecting the BPA regardless if it is a collegiate pitcher or hitter. If it's close, I would take the hitter.

You can make a case for Verlander as well who might have gone 1 instead of 2 had he not pitched in the CAA.

Here's a quick and dirty illustration, 2000-2009 Top 5 picks(to give them time to reach MLB and contribute). Hitters: 25 Pitchers: 25 Hitters with 10 career bWAR: 12 Pitchers with 10 bWAR: 5 That will change to 14 to 5 soon because Moustakas and Hosmer are both north of 9.5 bWAR too(no pitchers are close). you can make a wonderful argument for drafting Mark Appel over Kris Bryant as well, if you are interesting in being wrong about everything. That would apply if Appel was equal to Prior, which was not the case. Appel was not better than Bryant.

Prior>Teixiera in 2001 had a higher ceiling based on OFP As previously mentioned, Prior had a bad combo of Baker, fluke injuries and mistaken perfect mechanics If there's a similar situation where there is two draftees with very high ratings *once in a decade* with the collegiate pitcher ranked higher, I would go for the player ranked higher despite the obvious risks with a pitcher. there's neither hindsight nor logic being deployed here I will always give you credit for always sticking with Teixiera

BigRedSun/stitchface was likely referring to an old ESPN debate which I was on the wrong side of the argument having supported the drafting of Prior over Teixiera I can't agree with never taking a pitcher in the top 10.

They will have lost Deliverance and Hammel, Lester will be declining as Arrieta likely will be as well with Kyle in his prime. They'll likely need a top 15 WAR starter at that point, which would create another window. I have great faith that the FO will be able to patch together a good enough rotation to support what should be a dominating offense for a long time. I do too but there's nothing in the pipeline beyond trading/FA. -

I think they have much longer than a 2 year window (they will need to find a couple new starters in the next couple years, that can be accomplished with money and other trades pretty easily) They will have lost Deliverance and Hammel, Lester will be declining as Arrieta likely will be as well with Kyle in his prime. Solid move, IMO. Torres is locked behind Russell, Baez, Zobrist (not that important given his age), Bryant, and possibly Happ. McKinney is in a similar position behind Soler, Schwarber, Almora, Eloy, and Heyward. Didn't include Fowler in this scenario although I hope he comes back. You have a current team with a 2 year window, currently tops in overall talent (maybe a case for Washington) addressing their biggest need with one of the best relievers of all-time without losing someone who likely projects to be a main contributor long-term. -
So far.... I would have drafted Tunsil in the 1st and Bell in the 2nd.

If you're the Bears, I'd be torn if Tunsil, Jack, and Floyd are on the board. I was hoping Jack would fall and the injury risk but if Tunsil is there, I go for him.

I'm opposed to trading up as well... 1a. Laremy Tunsil 1b. Joey Bosa 3. Jalen Ramsey 4. Ezekiel Elliott 5. Ronnie Stanley 6. DeForest Buckner 7. Jack Conklin 8. Myles Jack These are my top 8 and one of them will/should be avail at 11. Even though this a very weak draft, I still would not trade up.
