  1. I still can't believe Gammons was right when he said Pie would've been up. Not that I can't believe Pie was ready, just that Gammons was right. (and I think Pie could still use another good chunk of ABs in the minors)
  2. Winn sports a pretty decent OBP in a pitcher friendly park. I'd be fine with Hairston platooning with Winn in center. But, I'd also like to see an upgrade in left still. You'd be carrying lots of OF'ers if you've got platoons in 2 positions. A sure sign that you're a Cub fan: a .343 career OBP (.342 this season) looks good to you (me too). :(
  3. Hill, maybe - Pie (or Hill and Pie), I kind of doubt. Soriano AND Mench might be worth a trade that includes Pie and others value-wise, but I still wouldn't move Pie.
  4. Floyd would make more sense in the lineup. If you add Soriano to either 2B or LF, then the only lefty bats possible are: Neifi, Hollandsworth & Burnitz. If Walker goes and Soriano is still put in LF, then Neifi would probably get the work at 2B...because you know Dusty would play Perez over Hairston/Cedeno/Honus Wagner. Burnitz has done well, but that's almost nothing else from the left side in the lineup. If you put Soriano at second, then you might as well send Murton to Iowa, because Hollandsworth "has" to play to have a few lefties. Hendry's quotes about wanting someone for the future seem to make Floyd a little less likely. Soriano isn't all that young after having his age revised a few times. He'll be 30 next opening day - Floyd will be 34. Still, I think that the possibility of sneaking a slightly cheaper (trade-wise) Floyd away while the Mets are trying to get Soriano is a good one.
  5. No-trade aside, this would be the point (once he came off the DL) where Kerry would have the least value he's ever had. His contract runs out after next year, correct? If that's the case, the chances for a trade would seem to be much higher once he's nearing leaving and has had a chance to establish some record of clean health (stop laughing). And even then, it would take something unusual given the no-trade.
  6. As for the Kerry Wood part of it, you can't trade a player on the disabled list. You can do a PTBNL in that case - but with Wood's no-trade clause Kerry would have to approve now and be traded later (which seems unlikely to happen), or Hendry would have to include something of equal value as a possible switch in case Wood decided to not go. I can't think of anyone on the ML roster who'd be available and equal value to Kerry, even with his injury, so Hendry would have to include some combination of players and/or prospects to offset the risk. So, I don't see how Kerry can really be a part of any deal. Besides that, his value is as low as it's been at any point in his career. You could say the same about CPatt, but obviously the other factors aren't involved with Corey (no-trade, injury).
  7. ESPN showed Nomar's single in Peoria. It was damn cool seeing EPatt sliding home on prime-time SportsCenter.
  8. :fingerscrossed: Not only might you get Nomar - you might get Wood at the same time (pun intended.) link
  9. Positive vibes for Rich. A nice 5 or 6 inning start would be gold. I'd be happy to see Hill succeeding in the rotation, with Williams working in the pen and Mitre getting some work in AAA.
  10. Kearns. Just came back up. He wasn't playing like a stud OF'er before being sent down, but kicked tail (as he should) in AAA.
  11. I don't know what that means. Dunn's batting average is low and he strikes out a lot. Those are the only stats that matter for hitters. Actually, I think batting average is the most overrated stat there is. Runs produced (scored, driven in, runners advanced) is the only stat that matters for a hitter. Not to be silly, but a guy can get 500 singles in 500 ABs and never score or drive in a run - batting average alone tells you little. Oh, and great Av. Joo play jezz floot for us.
  12. Davey Gregg has 24 SB already in Boise? Dayum. Lots of singles in his numbers (infield hits?), but that's some nice legwork - especially for a 27th rounder. Oh, and gooo Ricky & Darin. And boy, Leicester has had a rough year.
  13. If something happened, I wonder if Murton would be included.
  14. While I would love to see Dunn in Cubbie blue, my enthusiasm is a little tempered by a couple things: Given all the attention given to Preston Wilson's home/road splits, it's interesting that Dunn's numbers are vastly better at home. Over the last 3 years, it's .929 at home and .840 on the road. I'm not sure how Coors & Great American compare, but that gap is hard to ignore. There's the second-hand talk that Dunn wants to play in Houston. Rather unpleasant to think two years in the future and see Dunn playing for the Astros and Rich Hill, Mitre, and Patterson with a decent chance to all be starting in Cinci. Maybe the Dunn talk is just sportswriter fluff and he'd sign long term. Still, makes me a little antsy. Lastly, I've heard that some teams considering trading for Dunn are thinking of putting him at first base. The guy is 275... I wonder if his future is in the OF. The OBP profiles great in the #2 spot, but you don't put a 40-50 homer guy there - not even a chance, IMO. The strikeouts are going to kill a lot of rallies wherever he bats, but I guess you live with that given the power.
  15. Doobie in a Cleveland uni (0 for 3 with 2 k's in game 1 :( ): http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20050720/capt.ohtd10707200231.royals_indians_ohtd107.jpg
  16. I disagree, Hendry got a pretty establish major league guy for Dubois who is still considered a prospect. The Indians don't know what they are getting (but because they have the DH Dubois will have the opportunity it hit). Agree with you. While I love Doobie, I wouldn't say he's considered a prospect at this point...more of a AAAA guy who can't play the OF in MLB. He could prove me wrong, especially now that he can DH and maybe get a turn at 1B once in a while. Gerut is only a year and a half older than Dubois, and Jason's value as a 1B/DH is far less than it was if he could've played LF. Seemed clear Dubois had no future with the Cubs, so getting a decent player for him is a quality move, IMO. While he does seem very Hollandsworth-ish, Gerut is a better option than Dubois or Grieve. It does make some sense that this move could lead to another - but I have a hunch Murton is more likely to be traded than Gerut. I think the odds are long against it leading to Dunn or even Kearns, but we can keep hoping. BTW, reading the official Indians board, the first few posts say that Dubois can play 3B, SS, and OF, and another said that he was platooning in LF with Patterson.
  17. Hill struck out the first guy with a curve. Right about the same time Z struck out Gonzales. Then gave up a single - picked the guy off, but Drew Larsen (playing first), threw the ball into left field.
  18. MLB.com says Greenberg has #17, Murton #19. Good numbers. The Chiefs game is starting up on their stream - get to hear Rich Hill's start. Oddly, "Enter Sandman" is playing in the background while the girl is singing the national anthem.
  19. Link Starting in 2012, no baseball in the games. Though the best players from many countries are in the majors during the games, it can still be cool to see some of the younger guys get some time on a global stage. And the Dave Nilssons of the world got to resurface every four years. No more. (No softball, either.) I mostly watch the summer games to see beach volleyball and women's swimming. I think they still have a trampoline "competition", no? And no baseball? And while I'm aimlessly complaining, they should add a small match play golf bracket (amateurs, preferably).
  20. I'll quote myself to show how stupid I can be. #25 is currently being worn by the best player in the NL.
  21. It speaks well for Rich that they're giving his work routine that much thought. Maybe he can get a real shot at the rotation.
  22. What numbers will the new guys be wearing? ESPN has Greenberg with 66, and Murton with 99. I'm down with them being Lemiux & Gretzky...but something tells me those won't stick. Murton's number at WestTenn (#25) isn't taken on the 40 man, but Greenberg's #4 was being worn by Doobie. Maybe they'll go with 25 & 24.
