  1. LOL - funny that an ex-Cub is the Diamondback who lets a strike go by :)
  2. Oh man - he's taking something off the pitch and still can't get it over the plate - not good
  3. Man what I would have loved to be a starting player in the ML playoffs at age 20!!! Wish I had had as much talent as I had desire :)
  4. We're not even here without Soriano, you people need to get some freaking perspective. Agreed - we just need to surround him with some good hitters and it won't be a problem
  5. I hate the fact that I have to go in to work in the morning and listen to Red Sox fans snickering about how crappy our hitters are.
  6. has Sorian's bat touched a ball yet in the series?
  7. Is it just me, or does anything else think Soto looks like he should be an actor in a spanish television soap opera? I have man love for him after that hit :)
  8. That's what you can do when you make the pitcher throw one to you :) Nice job - show the veterans how it's done!!!
  9. Nice job getting out of that Ted - hopefully that settles him down from here on out. Cmon guys - how bad do you want to win this series!!! How bout SHOWING UP when it's your turn up to bat!!!
  10. our GM signs free swingers and our minor league coaches don't preach plate discipline Absolutely true - the organizational philosophy is what causes this mess. Having 1 or 2 free swingers on a team is typical, but having a lineup full of them leads to exactly what we've seen all year long - we'll go on hot streaks and win games 10-1 and 13-2, and then turn around and get shut out 3 days in a row. Free swinging breeds inconsistency and the worst thing is that a lineup of free swingers makes it too easy for a good starting pitcher to get our guys out. And this doesn't look to change in the next few years either. Sadly you're correct. I haven't watched much baseball this year, so it's really striking when you get to the playoffs and you watch how the different team's offenses approach their turns at the plate and you can't help but see how much different the Cub hitters are in general. There are some exceptions, but like I said, you just can't build an entire team or organization around filling your lineup with free swingers who just don't take control of the strikezone and make the pitchers give in to THEM for a change. Not to say we might not still come back and win everything this year, but I think that approach makes it more difficult on us than it has to be.

  12. I needed to get a good nights sleep tonight anyways - if they're gonna lose it, I'd rather they do it right in the 1st inning. *sigh*
  13. If you missed it - it's the same approach we had last night. I'm convinced most of our hitters don't know the strike zone and decide before the pitch is thrown whether they're gonna swing at it or not no matter where it is. I watch the Red Sox hitters and am struck at how 180 degree different their approach is. They work the counts as long as they can (I think they led the league in pitches seen per plate appearance) and eventually the pitcher has to put one in their wheelhouse. Our guys on the other hand way too often let the opposing pitcher get them out on THEIR pitch. It doesn't bode well for the postseason when you're mostly facing pretty darn good pitching. They'll continue to exploit it until we change our approach.... and we all know that's not going to happen.
  14. Man, we need a big game from Lilly tonight. Zambrano pitched his guts out (for 85 pitches at least) and the offense let him down. Lilly's gotta keep the great starting pitching going!
  15. Well, I'm heading to bed - maybe they'll come back, but I'm not getting my hopes up once again. 43 years of getting my hopes up has worn thin.
  16. NICE 3-2 pitch - I loved the "backdoor" SO there Z!!!
  17. I know Z wants to get out there and pitch, but man, 2 of those 3 pitches were balls and he swung at them - the one that was right there he let go by.
  18. Nice job - new ballgame!!! Cmon, don't let him off the hook now!!! Make him throw strikes to you!!!!!!
  19. Man Webb's arm motion and movement is really screwed up right now - I'm going to be royally pissed if Theriot swings at the first pitch!!! (unless he does and gets a hit :-P)
