  1. what an awful display - only good thing is they kept coming back but the good teams come back to WIN this kinds of games. Disgusting
  2. well if that doesn't pump this team up to win this damn game, I don't know what will. We NEED this win badly!!!!! Can't afford to lose 3 in a row to these guys!!
  3. It isn't like Neifi is the 2nd coming of Ernie Banks or anything- he's had some good streaks and had some awful ones and truth be told, his career numbers aren't all the great. I understand Dusty wanting to "respect" the veteran by giving him the chance to catch fire again, but as a manager it's your job to put the players onto the field who have the best chance to get you TEAM wins. Imho, you know what you're gonna get from Neifi for the most part and Cedeno is an unknown quantity at the big league level. If Neifi were an All Star it would be one thing, but Cedeno has a much higher ceiling to me than Neifi does. There's no reason in the world that Ronny shouldn't at the very least split the time with Neifi at SS - otherwise as others have said, what the hell's the point of bringing him up to sit him on the bench and give him the occassional pinch hit.
  4. It won't dissipate at all - especially if his option vests. Those who like Maddux and are happy with his performance, like him - those who don't, don't and that's ultimately all that matters in these kind of discussions. It's mostly a matter of being stubborn and the inability to see other's viewpoints that keeps these things going.
  5. Wins are a terrible, terrible metric to measure pitchers. There are a host of pitchers who could equal Maddux's production for less than he's making. And there's a "host" that can't and are making more. The fact of the matter is we could play this game all day long postiing pitchers records, era's etc... and it's quite likely that nobody here is going to change their minds - either you're happy with Maddux here or you aren't. I personally don't have a problem with paying the man $9 for what he brings to the mound every 5th start. Hindsight is 20-20 so I suppose that money might have been spent better, however you can say the same thing about Kerry Wood. I hope this thread dies because it's just going to turn into the same old discussion again.
  6. Ask David Ortiz of the Red Sox if BJ is a God among men :-)
  7. We have to get Macias AB's so he stays loose for the penant stretch
  8. I just feel that if the Braves organization didn't feel he was good enough to be on their staff (starter or relief), I have to think he's not as talented as I once thought. As far as writing him off after 4 innings goes - hey, I'm a Cub fan, it's in my genes to over-react :-P. Seriously, I always thought the Cubs organization really screwed him up by moving him all over the place - including up and down to the minors. I thought a change of scenery would be the ticket that would make him a very good starter but it doesn't seem like that was the case. I'm afraid that now he's fallen into the trap of being a "journeyman" pitcher and it will be hard for him to overcome the odds of putting together a good career.
  9. JC - off topic just a little bit, but the photo's of the 4 ex-cub pitchers on the bottom of your sig I'm assuming are meant to be a reminder of "what could have been" or guys who should still be with the current Cubs. I might consider taking Juan Cruz off that list if I were you - I thought he would be a good one as well, and especially when he went to the Braves, but they let him go as well and he is NOT doing well at all with Oakland. Kyle is up to his old tricks in Detroit as well looking "lights out" for a few appearances and then getting bombed!
  10. Tim - thanks for the info. from your wife - I had also heard that about sprains. Another term you hear quite often is a "pulled hamstring" - it's also a tear, just a difference in severity. I had a "pull" last year and got back out on it too soon and ended up tearing it further - to the point where the entire back of my thigh from my butt to the back of my knee was black and blue from all the blood. I hope the recent news about Walker is indeed true and as someone else said, it's about the best we could hope for. The trainer appears to be already earning his keep unfortunately.
  11. Hey Cheeshead - did you do that on Excel? :-P Good news about Walker, but I'm not convinced yet until I hear from more than Bruce Levine. I'd like to hear an official statement from the Cubs and maybe an interview with Walker first. Too bad Dubois doesn't play 2nd :-(
