  1. I think that whoever scores more runs in this game has a good chance to win Hey, that sounds like some Joe Morgan insight! :)
  2. maybe it's just the angle, but the SZ looks tight tonight
  3. that pitch was a strike to Soriano - we got a break
  4. Gotta admit, they're definitely playing well and it sticks a little in my throat every time I see a shot of their dugout and see them smiling and laughing
  5. I'm going to be optimistic and say the Cubs score this inning and won't go down 1-2-3.
  6. About the only positive thing to come out of that first inning - what was that, 30+ pitches alrdy?
  7. I honestly didn't expect it at all - I just HOPED it :(
  8. What's the over and under on the inning that the fans litter the field with garbage the way the Cubs have been the last 3 games?
  9. May as well hit a Grand Slam and just get this over with - I have things to do tonight.
  10. Blowing out to right 11 mph, Thanks - I hope Livan is really off his game tonight!!!
  11. Anyone know what the wind conditions are at the game?
  12. What we need are a couple starting offensive players who know the strikezone and know how to make a pitcher pitch to them.
  13. I thought the Cubs were up to bat on that swing !!!
  14. *sigh* - for God's sake, can we at least show up for a game. What do you want to bet our offense goes nuts this game and our pitching loses it 15-14 or something ridiculous like that.
  15. I agree - if Marmol had performed up to his normal standards, none of this would be an issue. I don't fault Lou for the move (although it's a fair thing to question) - he had his own logic behind it. Lou isn't the reason we've lost the first two games of the series.
  16. Actually , Buckner WAS harrassed in Boston for quite awhile after the ball went under his glove that year against the Mets. In fact if I'm not mistaken, he and his family moved away from the area due partly to the fact that his family was having to deal with crap from people as well and he didn't want them to have to deal with it. Last interview I recall seeing was a couple years ago and although he sounded like it was all "in the past" and he didn't really think about it much, I also got the feeling he's never forgiven the people of Boston for their treatment of him and his family. I believe he was invited to Boston for the celebration of the 2004 WS as some kind of "all is forgiven" gesture and his response to it was more or less "go F yourselves" and he never did come back for it. The only thing I did hear is that he finally agreed to sign photos of the ball going under his glove and he meets up with Mookie Wilson now and then at different functions to both sign the photo - I think his comment was something along the lines of "It doesn't bother me anymore, and if I can make money off signing them, fine with me."
  17. I'm really disappointed too so far in the postseason but deep down I shouldn't be surprised. Until the organization starts focusing on plate discipline and starts balancing our offense with more guys who know the strike zone and how to make a pitcher work, the only way we will ever win a WS will be primarily luck. 1 or 2 guys like Soriano are just fine in a lineup - everyone has them, but you can't have half or more of the offense play that way. Good pitchers are good pitchers for 2 reason, they have great stuff and they're smart. Add the two of those together and you'll quickly see why our offense can be shut down - they know that most of the time they don't have to throw strikes to get our hitters out - not to mention the fact that they can approach almost every hitter the same way. When a good pitcher makes a mistake in the strike zone, they often pay for it - when they make a mistake outside the strike zone, the good teams lay off them and force them to get it over the plate. Put yourself in the shoes of a good opposing pitcher - if you have even average control that night, it's not difficult to shut down our offense. Things have to change or we'll just keep seeing the same futility year after year.
  18. I don't have a big problem with it although I suppose I'd rather he had done it in the dugout after the inning than out on the mound. He wasn't throwing a tantrum about a pitch call, wasn't showing anger over a teammate mistake - I'm sure he could tell as soon as the game started that he was having difficulty with his control and was just hoping he could get over the hump and find it without letting down the team as well as himself. Fact is he couldn't and he was mighty pissed at himself. If asked about it today I'm sure he'll be embarrassed at his actions, but I don't see how any Cub fan can NOT be a little understanding. I found it ironic when thinking back that if you recall in game 1, there was a moment where the camera caught Carlos Zambrano within inches of throwing his glove as well but he held back at the last second - kinda amusing that for once Big Z kept his emotions in check in a situation where Lilly couldn't. Although that little voice going into the playoffs started whispering "hey, we made it into the playoffs and ANY team can win it - no reason we can't be that team," deep down I believe the majority of us knew that the 2007 Cubs really aren't that good of a team.
  19. Gnight guys - I've had enough! Hope we pull it out - I'll check the headlines tomorrow morning.
  20. Oh goodness - this crap just rips my heart out every time!! I can't keep going through this every year!
  21. Man, Lilly is really living on the edge tonight
