  1. So many issues, don't even know where to begin: 1 - Really, really convenient of somebody to "ignore" stats when they go against their opinion. 2 - You don't even realize it, but you are proving my point. Lee and Ramirez are great players and they probably would have been great players whomever was there manager. The same way Choi, Hill, Cruz, Brandon Harris, or any other younger kid this board screamed at Dusty about to play who turned out to be awful. They are probably just bad players. Dusty doesn't "ruin" anybody, the same way he doesn't "create" superstars. If they had talent, they would have shown it someplace else by now. 3 - Don't know about anybody esle, but last part of that post seemed real close to a personal attact....
  2. Getting away from the Dusty topic for a moment, thank you. I was going to post a comment on the very subject, but felt it would come across as whining if I did it.
  3. Look at there stats before playing with Dusty and then after. Oh, are you arguing Tony ruined Ankiel? I'm not arguing this with you. It's your opinion that Dusty ruined them. That's fine, but again, that's all it is - your opinion. There is certainly no evidence after they left Dusty that they are All-Stars. I can at least point out the fact none of them have had "productive" careers.
  4. I'm not quite sure what your point is. First off, if you accuse me of assuming a rookie has no skill and that is why he fails and it is has nothing to do with Dusty. Well, aren't you doing the exact same thing - assuming the player has skill and he is failing because of Dusty? Let's look at the examples - Juan Cruz went to the Braves (an organization that hardly discriminates against rookies) and did so well that he was traded to Oakland (another team that values "young" players) and has since been demoted to AAA. Bobby Hill went to Pittsburgh and has done nothing. Hee Seop Choi went to Florida and than to L.A. and has never developed. If you want to argue that Dusty "killed their confidence" then go a head, but it is a stretch. By the way, how quick are you (or anybody else) to "credit" Dusty for turning Lee in to a MVP type player or turning an average Ramirez in to an All-Star? The problem is that Dusty can never get a fair break - if a player succeeds or the team wins it is because of their talent and if the player fails or the team loses it is because of Dusty.
  5. I personally think that Murton and Cedeno should be starting every day. Not because I believe they are better players at this point than Hollandsworth and Perez, but because there really is little hope for the Play-offs and I would like an extended look heading into next season. After saying all that, this thread goes is dead on to the reason I (and a few others) defend Dusty - people just bash him unfairly. What do you want him to do - never play Hollandsworth or Perez again? Todd has been one of our best hitters over the past month or so. Dusty is just not ready to leave Hollwandsworth (or Burnitz) rotting on the bench quite yet and throw in the towell on the season.
  6. To harsh? Still, no worse than the venom that gets spewed out against Dusty on an hourly basis.
  7. Quite you, this board is no place for talk like this. Seriously, the hypocrisy on this board is amazing. People complain Dusty refuses to play rookies over veterans just because they are rookies. The very same posters will start whining to play the rookies for no other reason than they are rookies. It's a never ending circle, "insert name of the the flavor of the month rookie can't be any worse than insert name of middle of the road veteran and Dusty refuses to play them." Then when the rookie (Dubois, Hill, Cruz, whomever) proves he isn't any better, it's on to the next fad.
  8. All right, he had the best game that I have ever seen a baseball player have. Let me ask you this, if Hollandsworth had played and did the exact same thing, would you (or anybody else) be demanding that he starts the rest of the season? A better question, if the Cards brought up some rookie and he went 2 for 2 with a walk, would you be quick to pass judgment on him? Of course not, everybody would be screaming that it is only one game. I have nothing against Murton, I hope he becomes an HOFer, but this board is acting like we just witnessed the dawning of another Barry Bonds. I'm not sold Murton yet, just like I'm not sold that Dubois will never be worth anything just because he was struggling before the demotion. Time will tell....
  9. What exactly would you want Dusty to say, "Neifi is quite honestly the worst starting shortstop in the majors right now, I'm only starting him because my other option is a rookie...." What Dusty said is one of the main reasons he is known as a player's manager - shows confidence and tries to keep things positive.
  10. Murton has had exactly 1 decent game so far, let's not proclaim him an All-Star quite yet. As for trading a lefty, Burnitz or Walker would net us a lot more than Hollandsworth would. Todd H. would probably net a low level prospect (or two), but not much else.
  11. Really, at this point I would start Cedeno everyday at short, Pie (when healthy) in center, Hairston at second, Dubois in left, and Murton in right. Trade Walker and Burnitz. See which of the kids could play and get ready for next season. I don't know if I would "gut" the team - there are some good young players who are clearly major league players, if not stars (Zambrano, Prior, Wood, Lee, Ramirez, Barrett, and J. Williams). As bad as the situation looks now, there are a lot of pieces in place.
  12. Anything is possible, but this is looking pretty dim. We really don't have much of a chance for the Wild Card (8 back now) and like 6 teams to climb over. To give you an indication, even if we won 60% of our games from here on out we would finish 87-75. If the Braves just play .500 ball for the rest of the year they would have 90 wins.
  13. If Williams proves he can pitch consistently well throughout the rest of the season, then maybe in the playoffs I wouldn't mind using Maddux in long relief. I don't want to get into the, "what have you done for me lately" line of thinking, but if his name was Mike Maddux, he would probably have been moved to long relief instead of Mitre. Still, I'll give Greg the benefit of the doubt on this.
  14. This isn't a good move if all we are doing is putting Cedeno on the bench. He would be better served getting the playing time in Iowa. The move is very confusing unless Cedeno does in deed get some starts.
  15. I never minded Chip as much as most people did (or so it seemed from reading these message boards), but I have always thought Len Kasper was an excellent play-by-play man. I lived in Miami for several years and always enjoyed listening to Len call a game. I'm not a huge fan of Brenly, but to be fair I probably would have felt the same about anybody else after Stone. I'm sure I'm in the minority on this, but I really think Eric Karros is going to be a good color guy with some more experience.
