  1. i didn't say it should, just said it didn't get us to the playoffs last year....i was just being a smartass
  2. Wow. That's great news. Hopefully the date is accurate. On WGN Radio, Andy Mazur said that Nomar could start playing in rehab games as early as another week. And if they really believe that, Cedeno needs to start at Iowa right after the break. No more wasting away on the bench. I think Cedeno is with us until Nomar returns. There's no one else to play SS. I really hope Nomar is back August 1st as it will be like adding a SS at the deadline. One can only hope he can play effectively. not to be overly pessimistic but that didn't exactly work last year....
  3. Fred, shouldn't that last column heading be OPS not OBP?
  4. that's why its amazing to me that phil rogers still picks Albert as the 1st half MVP. He is unreal. Let's get this straight Phil. Pujols and Clark deserve to win those MVP's, Pujols because he's close in the triple crown stats and because of Runs Created. Clark in 1987 had 164 RC to Dawson's 178. Clark deserved to win his MVP because he lead the league in OBP and SLG. Lee: .452 OBP .733 SLG, Pujols: .424 OBP, .598 SLG. Well, as long as you're consistently contradicting, I guess there's not too much of a problem. I love where phil says they're very close in avg with pujols only 35 points behind.....ONLY 35 points behind????? Granted in the .300's either is fantastic but 35 points can be the difference between neifi and nomar.....

  6. I was looking throught the box scores this morning and I was wondering why Turnbow did not get credit for a save last night? Scenario: Brewers up 9-2 in the bottom of the ninth Reliever pitches 2/3 of the inning giving up 4 runs to make it 9-6 Turnbow comes in faces two batters giving up a BB but retiring the last batter Isn't that a save?
  7. What's wriggleman doing? I never thought he got a fair shake, crappy team and still went to the playoffs....
  8. Cool, thanks...hell of a night anyway, he looks like he must be all the way back?
  9. Does anyone know why Burnett was pulled at the end of six? He had 14 Ks through six innings and while he had given up a few runs, I would think you might let him go for that record. All I saw was a box score so perhaps there is some obvious reason he was pulled....thanks.
  10. I wasn't griping, just pointing out facts. If you notice I also posted that the cubs are doing what's expected of them giving their runs scored and have a record equal to their RPI which indicates they are truly a .500 team. As far as playing yourself....the cubs have only faced the cards twice this year and their SOS is 25 points higher
  11. As of this morning, the cardinals have the weakest schedule in all of MLB. While the cubs have the 13th toughest in MLB and the 6th toughest in the NL STL SOS .476 Cubs SOS .502 The cubs also have the exact record that they should have according to Bill james' prediction using runs scored. As far as RPI the cubs are .500 and ranked even with the detroit tigers.
  12. just a side note, the cards have the lowest strength of schedule in the LEAGUE!!!!!!!!! .476 while the cubs have a .502 when it rains it pours.....
  13. I would say its more evidence of lack of parity. In order to have only 6 teams over 500 means those six teams are killing everyone else. I would contend there are 4 really good teams and the rest are all just soooo bad, seriously the giants are closer to winning the WC than the cubs are to catching STL, that is just horrible....
  14. Barrett entered the league in 1998. He played 22 games at C, 3 at 3B. 1999: 59 C, 66 3B, 2 SS 2000: 28 C, 55 3B 2001: 131 C 2002: 110 C, 6 1B 2003: 68 C 2004: 130 C Thus, he has been primarily a catcher in the majors since 2001. Yes but frank said he will never be a good catcher.... :x
  15. Yeah I remember the end of the dale murphy era, those horrible unis....they were bad. I don't know enough about their history, when they turned it around was it a new owner, gm, manager?? Or did they just "fall" into success? Actually...it was the Cubs' fault. 8-10 years of a rotation of Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine set them up for success. well 1/3 our fault anyway.... if healthy (I know) Prior, wood, z.....could they be the next maddux, smoltz, glavine? The difference I see is in the demeanor, I think prior could have pitched with those other three but I'm not sure wood and z could have...the braves just don't seem like the kind of guys wood and z would gel with....but I don't want to start talking about team chemistry.....
  16. I dont really remember him putting up a fuss last year when he was moved down. If I remember correctly he actually told baker to move him down because he wanted to win. At least that was the origional story that came out. The whole HUGE EGO thing is a little overrated, IMO. Not saying he doesnt have an ego, just not the collosal one people beleive. Oh, and I agree with SCS, we need a spellcheck. I'm sure chocolate milk would agree also. That's what I'm waiting to see from the O's is if it was chicago who made sammy look like the monster ego or if he really has one. About being dropped in the order, he made a huge fuss for weeks before being dropped then when it was obvious he needed to be dropped it became his idea, then after the season he said he never wanted to be dropped and was insulted when baker did it.....

  18. Interesting Article: I hear people say this all the time but no one really ever explains it. I've experienced it as well but couldn't explain it my self. What do you do to get this change in mindset? I did get that feeling in 2003 that we expected to win but that could just be romance....

  20. but he didn't get the win. isn't that the name of the game, not pitching well but winning? Like I said of all his starts only 4 were against +.500 teams of those 4 games the cards lost 3, he has been pitching well but can he lead his team to a win against good teams? Speaking of only 4 teams above .500, is it me or does that speak to the incredibly weak schedule the cards have had this year? I know I'm a little biased but still correcting for that it seems we're always playing the Braves while the cards are playing ARI, PIT, CIN, TB, COL....
  21. While I will say that Morris has pitched well, only 1 of his wins comes against a team that was above .500 at the time that STL played them (Jun 6 against BOS), of the four teams that were above .500 when they played STL the cardinals lost three of those games (LA, SD, ATL) so is he really having that great of a season or just beating up on the weaker teams?
  22. WEBER FOR MANAGER!!!!!
  23. If by good offense in 2003 you mean by watching the likes of Hee Seop Choi, Bobby Hill, Alex Gonzalez, Lenny Harris, and Damian Miller all in the starting lineup at the same time, well then yes, by all means we had a good offense. And Randall Simon, Tom Goodwin and Paul Bako on the bench. My Lord, how did we get anywhere? TEAM CHEMISTRY
  24. we understand you like sammy. it doesn't mean you have to make a post like this in every single thread that doesn't praise him. And we understand that people dont like sammy, but do they have to continually start threads about him when his performance has absoloutley jack poop to do with ours? I wasn't aware that topics that have jack poop to do with our teams performance were off limits....I'm interested in what Sosa is doing for two reasons: 1. to see if hendry made the right decision to get rid of him while paying his salary, as of now I think hendry made a good move 2. to see if it was just circumstances in chicago that made sosa look like a bafoon or has the man really changed into an egotistical monster (btw Tim a spell checker might be a nice add on if possible! )
  25. Yeah, he needs time to adjust. Just like Patterson needs to adjust, and Perez needs to adjust, and so on. Fact is, Dubois wasn't hitting, and Hollandsworth is. For a team that's scratching & clawing trying to stay in the race, playing 52-card pickup while waiting for a rook to make adjustments to big-league pitching just isn't going to cut it. If (when?) the Cubs fall 8 or 9 back in the WC, then fine, play Dubois 'til he finds his stroke. Until then, you've got to go with the player who is producing. And don't make me bring up the guy's defensive performance thus far. . . I agree with staying with holla as long as we are still in any kind of playoff race, however everyone has to agree that you start playing dubois everyday if you drop out of the WC race. So I guess the question then is at what point to you make that decision? Is 8 games out of the WC the unlucky number or do are we further out before we start really setting up for next year? (I know this sounds like I'm conceding the season, I'm not but I really hate sacrificing a season where we are so obviously .500 at the sake of following seasons....)
