  1. once they hit a lazer beam for a double play, the other time, the ump didn't even give them a chance.
  2. deft job by the ump setting up the pitcher in this inning. first pitch to Riot wasnt' even close, and I don't think he threw a strike to Pie in the entire sequence.
  3. ok, there's Jay Bruce, and then where are all the other players that are 21 y.o. and younger that are hitting so many more homers than Colvin in the FSL? maybe a couple other 21 year olds one or two more homers. his age and experience in professional baseball are relevant, and as one of the younger players in the league with only about 250 professional plate appearances before this year, and having skipped a level, I think he's holding his own just fine in the slugging department.
  4. as discussed in the minor league forum, after tonight Cedeno's AAA line: .329/.444/.500 with 3 HR, 16 BB/12 K in 82 AB. His line in June: .440/.563/.720/1.283 with 2 HR, 6 BB/1 K in 25 AB. he keeps this up another week or two, you have to call him up and give him another shot.
  5. Yikes... really, maybe he has figured something out, but I'm afraid he's just AAAA material. Rich Hill had less than a half-season cumulative to show that he belonged with the big club before they finally gave him an extended shot during the second half of last year. Cedeno had a whole year to prove that he could play, and he sucked butt. I've got no confidence in him... maybe if the Cubs fall farther out of it, I'd give him a shot, but for right now I don't want him on this team. In other news, Soto continues to rake, making the Blanco resigning look even more mind-bogglingly stupid. Ronnie should be given some slack considering his guidance was Dr. Aggressive and Captain Hack-a-lot. he held his own the first couple of times around the league, but once it came time for the first adjustment, he was given bad advice. this year, he really wasn't given a shot with only six or seven starts before being sent down. the way he's walking may indicate a maturity in his game, and he's certainly dominating the PCL. maybe he is AAAA, but if Izzy and Theriot continue at their recent pace, why the hell not find out now instead of waiting until they fall farther out?
  6. that bottom button is a-strainin' there Lou.
  7. you really should be more clear on a team that started Lamb, Lee, and Berkman.
  8. woe. heartattack bounce. nice job Riot.
  9. MLB justified its suspension of Lou with 'cracking down on misbehavior.' other misbehaviors they have been trying to crack down on are beanball wars and other actions that endanger the well being of the players. will the lack of punishment to Renteria, Hudson and Cox while Lilly does get suspended push some of you into jjgman21's tin foil hat realm of 'MLB has it out for the Cubs?'
  10. so if the Braves were known to be angry, why wasn't Tschida expecting retaliation on Saturday and eject Hudson immediately?
  11. while I want someone on the Braves to pay the price for Hudson and Cox's actions last night, I am confident that any Brave batter that gets hit by a pitch tonight will result in an instantaneous ejection of the pitcher and Lou, with suspensions to follow, regardless of the intent of the pitcher or evidence of said intent. I feel this is one that will have to wait until next year, when hopefully Hudson will still be a Brave, and pay back can come against the actual offender. so if anyone is interested in my Belmont picks, the spread in game 3 of the NBA finals, how your daughters marriage will end up, contacting dead relatives, etc., my services are available for a fee.
  12. what also p's me off about this thing is the way the media has covered it. first, a couple of print write ups I have seen have failed to mention Edgar's tomahawk chop to Font's face all together. others have treated it more of a story about how the Cubs pen blew another game, burying the real events far down in the story. and of course, Sportcenter buries it far into the show, somewhere after seven rehashings of a boring NBA finals game, an interview with Duke Lacross's former coach, lap by lap details of Nascar, former NBA'er saves dolphin, and highlights of games few care about. a couple weeks ago the Yankees game was the lead story because there was a questionable strike call on Abreu to end the game. another lead a couple weeks before was a questionable out call at home against the Yankees. for some reason this game was compelling enough to move to Sunday night, but the events that transpired were not compelling enough to give it more importance in their coverage? and then when they do cover it, they do it in a way that removes much of the context of what transpired.
  13. more here. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070611&content_id=2019342&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc I hope somebody askes Wolf why he decided that with 2 strikeouts in the first inning, nobody on and an 0-2 count would be a perfect time for Lilly to hit a batter. people keep saying this and I don't know why. it was a 2-0 pitch. I have no doubt in my mind it was intentional, just as there is no doubt in my mind Hudson's was intentional. that element isn't even needed to question exactly what the umpires were thinking and coming to the conclusion that they were out to screw the Cubs. what someone should ask is why Tschida wasn't "expecting it" the night before. if you're going to pre-judge one team, you should pre-judge the other. what also must be asked is why Wolf issued warnings, then decided to kick Lilly out after escorting Renteria to first.
  14. one person pointed out in the game thread, not only did the ump miss the punch to the face, he also missed Renteria coming off the base while Fontenot had the tag on him. while Font's face did slow his momentum, it's pretty clear in that photo that Renteria had to come off the bag at some point. the question is whether Font had the tag on him at the time, and again, it appears physically impossible for a tag not to be applied while Renteria was off the bag considering the location of the glove between the arm and body. exactly what was the ump watching there because it certainly wasn't the play.
  15. and screw you for the next week by wearing out your pen.
  16. Forget that. The Cubs blew it in the top of the eighth. Bases loaded, no outs and the Cubs get no runs. That shouldn't happen. and a fricken lazer beam right at the third baseman. that's not lack of ability, that's lack of luck. Yeah this time, the fact remains that situation happens to the Cubs a lot. this conversation is not about the state of the Cubs, it is about this game.

  18. nonsense. they lost the third game of the year just like that.
  19. don't know the reaction yet, but I nailed this one. one page before yours 98
  20. I predict and unblockable pitch that no catcher could possibly stop ...and Barrett getting blamed for this loss.
  21. how about a pitch that isn't right at the thighs or higher here Demp.
  22. hit a rocket that turns into a DP SCREW YOU WOLF
  23. Demp a little too pumped here. everythings up.
