  1. Burrell's knee must really be bothering him. all his bend is at the waste.
  2. Lou must have had an aneurysm. I almost had one on that soft liner by Moyer. luckily he's so strong and it carried to Jacque. ok JJ, one miss play last night, you made up for it with squirting down the line. three miss plays tonight. you have some work to do.
  3. good. someone who can throw strikes.... DOH!!!
  4. over react much? Can't help it. This is terrible dammit! it is now. throw a freakin' strike for chrissakes.
  5. there was one earlier in the game that that appeared to be the case. right there he dove for a ball after it bounced and turned a single into a double... and right there he took a terrible route to the ball.
  6. if it's a strike to Fontenot it's a strike to Rollins.
  7. Jones good fielding is rapidly going away.
  8. what the hell was with Moyer after that K? looked like he lost track of how many outs there were and somehow ended up with a big snot on his hand that needed wiping off.
  9. Are you saying it did not matter when Rowand threw well to third? If so you ought to think the same thing about chiken-wing Jacque. yeah, i'm saying it didn't matter. lee wasn't going no matter what. jones being terrible doesn't have anything to do with it. You completely ignored my point in order to further your own. if jones would have lolly gagged on the play and the guy would have tagged, yes, i would have been all over him. what's your point? oh, is it ok if i criticize jones for misjudging that fly ball by roughly 30 feet? I just don't get 1. how you can say a ball about 10 feet from the warning track in right center 'isn't that deep' 2. how you can say Lee definitely wouldn't have gone in light of 1 and the fact that Lee went back to the bag to tag 3. why Len and Bob commenting about it gets you so fired up. it doesn't get me fired up, and i know lee wouldn't go because he, well, didn't go. and i really doubt it was because roward got all shifty and in throwing position. but if you think lee would have risked making the third out of the inning at third on a medium deep fly ball to center, go nuts. "medium depth" that's kind of humorous. fudging the facts doesn't help your position on this. what also is humorous is saying it doesn't get you fired up, when it's pretty clear from your initial post on the matter and the follow up Eckstein reference post that it got you fired up. but whatever.

  11. what's with that? I have never seen a player lose sight of a flyball at Wrigley, and now it happens two nights in a row?
  12. I'd would have rather seen a first pitch rbi single. :) And I want a real-life Transformer as my best friend, what's your point? The point is he didn't advance the runner one bit. So what, no big deal. everyone realizes that, but between Murton and DeRo's ABs, Moyer lasts one less inning and the Cubs get a chance to wear out the Philly pen for tomorrow.
  13. Cancels out what he did in CF one play earlier. but the thing is, he really didn't do anything. lee was never going to run on that. stuff like that is done solely so the announcers can heap praise all over him eckstein style. when he really needs to do it right, he rainbows the throw from center...and it costs the phillies a run. yeah, just another case of the man trying to hold the sabr down. give me a break.
  14. how do you know this? if he didn't have any intention of tagging, why was he standing on the back instead of part way between second and third? if Rowand catches that ball flat footed or going away, Lee tags and gets to third. I don't know why you have a problem with the broadcasters commenting on a good fundamental play.
  15. that swing right there is the perfect metaphor for why the Cubs don't hit soft tossing lefties.
  16. and how many times did he hit to the right side of the infield to advance the runner? Answer - a lot Thats not cool or glamorous though. Ryno never cared about his personal stats, being cool or on camera - he just wanted to win. what people who make these kinds of statements fail to grasp is that personal stats help teams win. I don't think that is true at all. I think the point he is trying to make is that in certain cases players like that forgoe the personal stats by laying down a bunt or trying to go the other way with the ball depending on the situation. attempting to pre-empt snide comment about personal stats not helping a team win.
  17. it was the second pitch, and he stung the ball for the second time tonight. Cubs in general have hit the ball very hard thus far. Stung? yes, stung. just because the ball was right at Iguchi doesn't change the fact that he hit the ball hard, which is all you can ask a player to do.

  19. this Braves situation really makes me a little torn about the Brewers Mets game as I have a feeling that if the Cubs are battling for the WC to get into the playoffs, it will be a battle with the Mets.
  20. Joe Morgan everybody. I'll tell you what. Pick any four pitchers who pitched in the majors for 5 or more years. I look up the game logs for the runs/game and errors/game and compare them to the data for the days when the pitcher didn't pitch. I'll run some simple descriptive and inferential statistics and see if there is a corelation between runs/scored and errors/game. If I find that there are no data that support your conclusion you ban yourself from every posting on here. If there is a corelation I will seek your forgivness and never darken the door of NSBB again. Deal? geez, ease up.
  21. agreed. all righty lineups turn soft tossing lefties into dart throwers. make them hit 15 and 17 occassionally instead of just locking in on 16 and 19. I just wish there was a better option than Jones.
