  1. what about his AS appearance made Aram revert to old defensively?
  2. Rich needs a move to first base. his delivery and pick off are completely different.
  3. strike two to Walker and ball four to Green were the exact same pitch. same location, same speed, same movement. same pitch.
  4. I just wish the kid could get out of an inning without using 20 pitches. on pace to only go 5 again today.
  5. I virtually guaranty they go after Neifi there. props to Neifi for his first pitch upper cut hack that just elluded a slow and aging LuGo, but the lineup is constructed improperly, illogically, and idiotically. but its worked out so far today. good AB rook.
  6. I'm waiting for many here to start overvaluing Jay Payton since he's been acquired by Kevin Towers, Theo Epstein, and Billy Beane the past two years. on a more serious note, Jacques Jones just set his career mark for BBs in a season with about 60 games left, and in a year that his teams offense is down. you would think he'd be losing patience in that situation, but he seems to be gaining. while he's not on the top of my wish list, if he could duplicate what he has done this year for a couple seasons at Wrigley, I wouldn't mind.
  7. just wanted to mention how thrilled I am that the Cubs get to face a soft-tossing lefty they have never seen before. you'd think they'd make the adjustment, but they never seem to.
  8. exactly. especially batting back to back. if the inning begins with the sixth hitter, or works its way to the seven hole with 1 out, both are going to bat, both have a chance to make an out and fail to turn the lineup over. the exception being if the 7th hitter GIDPs, which Neifi does at a higher rate than just about anyone in baseball even though he's batted behind terrible OBP guys most of the year. thus, the only logical thing to do is bat the guy more likely to drive in runs in the seven hole. unfortunately logic plays little part in our managers decisions. maybe Neifi would actually take a walk if he were being pitched around to get to the pitcher.
  9. not watching, so let me guess. an off speed pitch on the outter third, hooked by Gonzalez out of the ballpark. essentially the only pitch the guy can still drive, and that's where we keep pitching him.
  10. way to go Pads. a terrible out call on the appeal, many various generous strikes throughout the game for Marquis, and the Cubs old AAA catcher has the audacity to turn around and argue with the ump on a pitch.
  11. deja vu. not watching today, but my impression last night was that if one of the ten screaming line drives the Cubs hit finds green, the game is a blowout.
  12. it's to the point where if I were the opposing pitcher, I would contemplate putting a runner at third with less than 2 out every single inning against the Cubs. it virtually guarantees the Cubs won't score that inning.
  13. The what? Explain please.. I havent been a fan for very long.. Haha, I believe it was Angel Hernandez (sp) who was practically screwing the Cubs out of the game with really bad calls. Then the ex-NFL/Bear DT Steve Mongo (You might recall seeing him on WCW) came into the booth to do the 7th inning stretch, and he just literally talked smack to Hernandez, and Hernandez was facing Mongo and both of them had some type of a stare-down before Mongo went to sing. Didn't Hernandez eject him? "don't worry, me and the ump gunna have some speaks after the game"
  14. Skilling, schmilling weather update from the far, far NW burbs... rain stopped here about 10 minutes ago. this storm was heading in a SE direction, so barring the lake holding the rain in place, it should stop raining at Wrigley in about 1/2 hour. its also kinda chilly, quite refreshing really.
  15. That's a good line. Patterson being moved around in the lineup has been overblown as an excuse for his struggles. But there was more to it than just moving him to a different spot in the order every day. How much of a disaster would it have been if Perez was asked to bat cleanup? Trying to turn Patterson into a leadoff hitter was just as dumb an idea as asking Perez to drive in runs with his power. Can you imagine how bad Perez would look trying to hit HRs? Sadly, we can easily conjure up images of Patterson trying to transform into slappy McGee. Ultimately Patterson is as much to blame as anyone regarding his struggles. But you can't ignore that having 3 different hitting coaches preeching 3 different approaches didn't help either. one more flog on the deceased equine... we need not imagine this. see the first post in the thread. and interesting you bring up the name McGee in reference to Patterson. my wishes for Corey were always to become the next Willie McGee with a few more HRs.
  16. THANKS TO NEIFI, WHO DOESN'T EVEN DESERVE TO BE ON A MAJOR LEAGUE ROSTER! I DIDN'T KNOW WE WERE FACING HIGH SCHOOL PITCHERS! OMG HIS TWO BIG HITS TOTALLY MAKE UP FOR HIS COSTING US OUT THE WAZOO FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS!!!!! WOOHOO!!!! It's a start. Textbook hating: the guy wins not one but two games in a row and some still give him crap. Can't let him have his moments for even a moment. Textbook hating. Thanks for making a great game a little less positive - goodnight. ZZ- I'll give Neifi his due. I think it's fantastic that he's been able to contribute to winning some games for us. I also think he's an okay bench player. However, he's definetly not an everyday player, and I think the joy of his successes is tempered a bit by the knowlegde that, when played 5+ times a week, he becomes a detriment. That said, if he wants to keep driving in big runs, I'm not going to object. And, just for You, ZZ...I'll even give Dusty credit for a game well managed. He used Remmy correctly, PH with Murton late and Macias early, and double switched with Cedeno. Well done tonight. I too apologize if my comments made you upset. my mind was already made up that I couldn't stand him, and these two hits aren't going to change my mind, but it was probably an inappropriate moment to bring it up. c'mon back ZZ.
  17. pulling an Eric Gregg? didn't see it. anyone else remember that game against the Dodgers in the early 80's?
  18. Turn the tables... wash your mom's mouth out with soap! it's funny because when I yelled "BS" at the 3-0 pitch to Neifi earlier in the game, she got all over my case. of course my daughter was awake at the time :-#
  19. ^^^ don't listen to him Cedeno. i thought it was beautiful. I've seen it four times now, and I don't know if he's in there if he does anything other than what he did. two of the best jobs of getting into home in two consecutive games. best ever, Dan Gladden's head first dive in the righthanded batters box and kicking his leg out to swipe the plate in the 87 WS
  20. My mom says "I wish they'd stop doing this. I'm too old for this #!@%."
  21. Please Jeromy. patience. you might not need to take your bat off your shoulder to win this game.
  22. Nothing will. Neifi, the best back-up SS ever? Definitely in all MLB for this year. Started as a backup, should have gotten some consideration for the all-star game. Oh, but he sucks. Yeah.... He's batting under .200 over the last 43 games. He sucks. I'm definitely one that thinks a three week hot streak + a two week hot streak + big hits in back to back games does not make up for completely sucking the rest of the year. I disagree that we shouldn't expect more from a back up. in a back up I look for a guy to at least make the pitcher work and get on base by all means necessary. I ran through several different stats in a thread in Baseball Discussion listing just how many different catagories Neifi is in the bottom 10 of the league. he just does so very little to help the team win, day in, day out. other annoyances include bailing out on pitches that would have hit him, and worse still, bailing on pitches that are on the inside corner; and the tendancy to hit into DPs (tied for 13th worst in all of baseball, and hitting with virtually noone on ahead of him most of the season).
