  1. Sandberg, Maddux, Ohtani, Trout, Bonds, Mke Schmidt, Randy Johnson, Scherzer, I know I've said this before - I once saw Bonds hit an opposite-field home run on a broken bat in Joe Robbie stadium. That's the most amazing thing I've seen live. The 2nd most (on the bad side) was seeing Prior get hit in the elbow. You could hear it from the bleachers. It's the quietest few minutes of a sporting event I've ever been to.
  2. I imagine they are trying to stay away from a lawsuit from the umpire's union.
  3. The Cubs appear to be coming out it. Jed and Craig really need to get the pen sorted out. I was a little disappointed they let CEJ opt out without giving him a chance with the big club. The end of the 40 man is all fungable.
  4. Don't want to jinx it here, but Kyle is dealing.
  5. PCA reminds me of my German Short Haired Pointer. The reaction after getting knocked down is the same one my dog has
  6. Dansby coming out it a little. Could be a good time here in a few weeks.
  7. a couple of warning track flyballs would have plated two.
  8. PCA needs to learn how to slide better.
  9. what is the wide wide world of sports does that tweet mean?
  10. It would be someone from outside and I would imagine Hawkins and the rest of the underlings would go too. I have no idea who is an up and comer in baseball. Ricketts is likely to get another guy with a similar approach as Jed because that's how he wants the organization to operate. Probably another reason why he is unlikely to fire Jed. Honestly, I think the only way Jed gets fired is if it starts hurting their bank account.
  11. It's not worth starting a new thread, but I like the idea of an opener in situations where the starter is a 5 or six-inning pitcher. Find a couple of strike throwing young guys with gas to throw a few innings at the beginning of the game and then let the "starter" go until the 9th.
  12. One is nicknamed The Polar Bear and one is nicknamed Busch Light. Case closed.
  13. How much appetite does Tom have for making systemic change? Judging from history. He has none. It would be quite a sea change to move Jed out unless he was hiring a Jed acolyte. That's even closer to 0 chance than firing Jed. He's going to wait and see what percolates up. However, if they continue to play poorly I do not think Jed will get an extension this offseason even if Tom wanted to, so he will be a lame duck in 2025.
  14. Gomes hit the proverbial wall hard. I'm sure he will become someone's bench coach soon and be shortlisted for manager jobs.
  15. That never happened. What color is the sky in your world?
  16. The Alonso ship sailed (unfortunately) when they traded for Busch. He’s right up Jed’s alley. Athletic looking player who hits line drives. That’s who Jed loves. He has them in spades up and down the roster in the minors too. Not that great, but not that bad either.
  17. That's a good point. He's not bad as much as he is mediocre. In the mix most years is the bar, and he can get the team there most years.
  18. I don't think Jed's job is in jeopardy. But we don't know what is happening behind the scenes. If he is leaving money in the budget every year and not using it, the Ricketts may get frustrated with the pace of improvement and or the ire of the fans. My guess is 1> He's spending to the limit imposed by the owners and 2> The Ricketts are insulated enough by the pile of money they have that it doesn't bother them to be the villain. It is unlikely that people will stop showing up or the corporate seats will go unsold (if unused), so he's safe. I think we will get a letter from the owner this year expressing disappointment in the record but praising Jed and Counsell for holding things together in the face of unprecedented injuries. Jed is Tom's man.
