  1. Can't say I'm a big JJ fan, and Prado fell off hard last year. Neither is high up on my imaginary list.
  2. It really didn't seem that way. The last thing I expected was anyone to find sense in what was said there. I'll just figure out a sensible way to deal with this ridiculousidea that our guys faced harsh persecution as lads due to their sheer level of nerd.
  3. I was hoping that post would just float on into the oblivion. There's a point there, but the way it's stated isn't going to win any fans (to put it lightly), and clearly nobody wants to hear that ish anyway. I just really don't find "nerd" to be the right way to perceive this FO...they're all considered young, studly, highly educated guys with all the right ideas...that's the exact opposite of a nerd to me...to me a baseball nerd is just as much the guy who can tell you why he likes a pitcher and why he thinks that pitcher will succeed just from seeing him as it is the guy who can tell you the same things but using a pitchers' numbers....both are just as likely to get their asses kicked in the 80's movie this thread was set in earlier on....nowadays the guy who's telling you he likes a pitcher without bringing up the numbers (even though size, weight, velocity, etc are numbers) might even be viewed as the lesser/taken less seriously.
  4. The Rays worship the ground Shields walks on...seriously, they love that [expletive] guy (for plenty of good reason): http://mlb.sbnation.com/2011/11/3/2533908/mlb-trade-rumors-james-shields-tampa-bay-rays http://aol.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2011-11-02/report-rays-intent-on-keeping-shields I would love Shields though...he's as tough a pitcher as you'll find in the league...to me he's the Rays' version of 90's Andy Pettite...rotation anchor, stalwart, and someone they have complete and total confidence in in a big situation. I wouldn't mind peaking in on Alex Cobb though, as it's already been mentioned.
  5. We're all pretending to want to root for them, but this week will be the beginning of the end of the 2011 Bills. I don't like predicting the Jets to win, but I do think it's time that Bills team gets put in their proper (3rd) place.
  6. Yeah, it's something I don't get. I think Gardener is a good defensive OFer but I have not understood the hype he gets there. OTOH It does explain why the Yankees put up with his bat...as does their other bats, his OBP, his SB quantity, and his SB%....best #9 hitter in baseball.
  7. Those clever SOBs... The Fangraphs article looks like a rehashing of what you could find reading around earlier...Cool Quade graphic though.
  8. Very true but Im a little less into the idea of giving him up...then again to land even the lesser Upton, who's a damn good CFer....
  9. 1.Boston 2.Chicago 3.St.Louis 1 - Chicago 2 - Boston 3 - St. Louis Chicago is on the way up after shelling out for a big money FO to bring in big money talent. Boston is still appealing with a star laden lineup and rotation, but like JCF mentioned there's alot of negativity over there. St. Louis I don't know enough about so I figure they're a very close 3rd...I think they'd be a great fit for the Phillies bench coach guy, but so would Boston with their talented veteran roster...
  10. Good player, but no defensive fit here and he might get overpaid. He's basically a solid starter type 2-3 WAR player and he'll be 33 next year.
  11. 1 - It's not despite their MO under Friedman that they go after tools laden athletes. Tools and athleticism are a big part of what they do over there. Brett Jackson was a guy who was drafted for his tools. 2 - Valuing Upton more than Jackson is all the reason the Cubs would need to make the deal. The fact that Upton is a really good player with a varied skillset who is just entering his prime years might also play into someone coveting him on the trade market. The Rays would save the money they want to save, and they get a cheap player to replace him with. The major wrench in that is that Jennings might be their long term CF.
  12. Why do they have to make drastic upgrades before signing Pujols? What if Pujols is just the one that gets the ball rolling?
  13. Yes. This would be the best thing to happen ever.
  14. It's a business decision too, especially for a star. Plus, he probably does some work in contracts.
  15. What he needs to do is revamp his image. Maybe come up with a cool origin story that makes him seem badass. He's obviously a numbers guy, so he could/should fit in with these guys. Keep in mind that to convince Pujols/Fielder to come here will require more than just Theo Epstein to paint the picture of the role that player will player in the future of the Cubs, and Kenney (Ricketts too) will be involved. To land Epstein they probably used Kenney too...maybe do something with those. Maybe have Christopher Nolan direct it so it's like oh [expletive] man.
  16. If it helps (it probably won't), I'm not here looking to take the title of coolest poster. Your belts are all safe. I won't even go for witty, only partially because I'd fail to uphold it often.
  17. Tsss this guy gets it. Burnt toast or fried eggs or pancakes or sumptin.
  18. Not bad. Any velocity reports or general scouting report?
  19. Oh, so just trolling for a meltdown. G'luck. The explanation is there in the video. Tss is just the noise that precedes the hit joke.
  20. I realize that's all that most know about Randolph's coaching career, and really it's all anyone should be expected to know (if anything at all). That said: - Best coach on the Torre coaching staff in NY, along with Mel Stottlemyre. Really a standout on that staff too, if you were a fan of the 90's Yankees. - Impeccable coaching reputation beyond the Mets incident. Impeccable, I say. Rick Peterson looked bad at his job during the Mets incident, and Peterson was once considered the best pitching coach in the game. That franchise is stupid (was stupid), and I chalk it up to stuff happens. It wasn't all piss anyway... - Has won the WS as a coach and a player. - Has worked in big markets his whole coaching life, and arguably the most extreme one at that. With the media it'd (hopefully) be a been there done that situation. - Has managerial experience, and has gone through failure. - Probably aware of the numbers game and matchups since he's not an idiot. There's plenty of reason really...It's not like past success as a manager should be a major requirement, and it's not like he had *none* either. It just wasn't a WS winner.
  21. If you can't stand me now prepare to be walloped... Yes, a radio character from the mind of an above average but not HOF or anything comedian. To me it's hilarious in the sense that it might have driven me to madness.
