  1. True. There's a bigger wrench. It's just one idea...there's a decent amount of players I'd trade Jackson for if given the opportunity.
  2. That's the Phillies bench coach right? I thought of putting him down, but thought against it. He's probably a good candidate, but where our roster is at vs. where there's is at is so drastically different that I don't see the fit.
  3. 1 - What's their profile of a CF? Jackson probably lags behind defensively what they want if that's what you're thinking, and I can agree with that. That said, they have very rangy OF guys with Jennings out there in LF and possibly Guyer out there in RF next year. 2 - The answer to your question is that trading Jackson does not make or break that ultra vague "build from within" plan, Jackson is pretty mid-range for a top prospect, and there are alot of guys who came from within the farm system that are now useable players here. Soto, Barney, the bullpen, and then one of the best young SSs in baseball sounds like within to me. It's such a vague and general description that it's possible to include trading away Cubs' prospects and players for better players when possible in the "build from within" category, isn't it? It's using what they have already to get what they don't have but want.
  4. Tsss...Tss....Well if he's leavin' then he's probably looking to secede or sumthin. Tsss.
  5. He screams trade bait, doesn't he? Wrong time to be trying to trade a prospect, unless you're sarcastically implying it would be for Epstein or Hoyer. What's so wrong about the time? No, not as compensation. For a better, more proven player. Personally I've pushed a Jackson + couple of others for BJ Upton idea out there at some point. Maybe for an arm or 3B...Whatever opens up.
  6. He screams trade bait, doesn't he?
  7. Valentine seems pretty outspoken. I'd rather have a first-time manager who will buy into Hoyer and Epstein's philosophy and do what he's told. Preferably someone from a sucessful organization. Just say no to zombie manager. I don't think I'd be able to stand that. For the amount of crap the manager will probably take as a Cub, there should remain some dignity in the job. Yes, he should be able to work with the FO. On the other hand it's pretty stupid to have the field manager in such an inflexible position on the field. If Theo, Hoyer, and gang are the geniuses they're said to be then they know better than that.
  8. It sounded like all he wanted to do was manage again the way he used his cushy TV job.
  9. That guy doesn't have to play 3B. There's plenty of former top prospects who have sucked that may or may not (probably not) turn it around.
  10. I actually thought Stewart was younger. One of the things on DeWitt's side as a player is that he's pretty young. At his age Jeff Baker was pretty garbage...now he's useful...His value isn't all that high, but a team looking for a LH bat with some pop off the bench that can handle 3B/2B/minor OF work on a given day could probably do worse with less possible upside.
  11. It was nerdtastic this year, but yeah I'm excited to see what these guys do. The Red Sox are usually the 2nd draft I check after the Cubs. Hopefully they find us some more hard throwing SP prospects.
  12. Top 5 names to me: Willie Randolph Mike Maddux Dave Martinez Sandy Alomar Jr. Bobby Valentine (many lawls from this guy I think; Might be too liberal or sumptin) Honestly, it doesn't really matter. Whoever works best with the FO...I think Randolph could be great here, and would handle the bs of handling a big market media...Plus he's got a great pedigree as a coach, even with the Mets debacle.
  13. You make him sound a lot like Alex Gordon. Gordon was better. Alot of guys can sound like a potential Alex Gordon...it's why guys like Hermida or even Bruce Chen continuously get shots....it's why StewArt will get a shot.
  14. McLeod looks like my boss, complete with the "yeah I might have done some coke" pseudo-smirk that is actually more a facial twitch. Sounds like well be having alot more drafts like what the Cubs did in 2011, which doesn't shock me. Can I say I love Tom Ricketts? More than Theo or any of these guys...Tom Ricketts is the guy who will "save" the Cubs.
  15. Willie (Randolph) time. Mike Maddux also works. For the love of Christ no Sandberg.
  16. Unfortunately, there probably isn't an option that can approach Ramirez's production, but Stewart has posted some pretty good OPS's against righties, and his upside is higher than any other third baseman we have in the system. You sleep on the Vitters, though Stewart probably plays better D. I figured Vitters would be brought up, but go look at Stewart's minor league stats. He was successful at every level. Yeah I know the background....former top prospect....first round pick...good minors numbers...kind of player who'd generate interest if he was out there as an inexpensive maybe he breaks out option...still not someone I'm overly high on to see a leap in performance.
  17. I mentioned Vitters specifically because I think he can be betterthan Stewart has shown to be (a roughly 1 WAR player with platoon numbers). I'm down for the Stewart idea as purely a stopgap, and it's probably best platooning with Baker/Dewitt who both hit lefties. I didn't even check Stewarts split...laziness.
  18. I could swear I answered this before, but it was known about locally in Boston and it got bigger when it was mentioned in the big SI piece on Boston's front office in September. I maybe missed it before. Sounds like a glorified Excel spreadsheet. I think the name Carmine is what is annoying me...it's so obnoxiously Boston. Or maybe it's the personification of a database...
  19. Unfortunately, there probably isn't an option that can approach Ramirez's production, but Stewart has posted some pretty good OPS's against righties, and his upside is higher than any other third baseman we have in the system. You sleep on the Vitters, though Stewart probably plays better D.
  20. I'm still stunned by how much I hear about this Carmine thing. Who in the [expletive] introduced us lowly fans to even the idea/concept of this thing?
  21. Completely agreed on the bench...I think DeWitt is the sleeper in the bunch, and I definitely think Colvin will be better next year. Internally, the Cubs can build a pretty good bench with what they have. Any thoughts on looking at Jonathan Sanchez of the Giants this offseason anyone? He's looking like the odd man out over there, and he's got a really good arm for a lefty. Walks too many guys and is a little erratic, but another guy out there who can be had on the low.
  22. ouch Yeah beside the Lemahieu suckage that was the first thing I noticed. Lemahieu is bombing out lately wtheckaroo
  23. Alot of chance probably... they have no other holes to fill, they're desperate for starting pitching, and wilson is the only legitmately good/proven guy on the market. i don't see how they don't offer him AT LEAST 100 million. the yankees number 2 starter in the playoffs last year was freddy garcia. who did they have beyond that? burnett? colon? yeah, they're going to go hard after wilson. That doesn't mean they a) land him or b) throw another long term 100 million contract out with Cano still not locked up long term.
  24. Alot of chance probably... David, only early on if that...I see Jackson getting a little AAA time. You'd think the bigger knock is that my rich team is relying somewhat heavily on Sizemore there. Theo's Red Sox FO always had a little crush on Beltran, who I'd love for a deal similar to what many want to give to Ramirez. Even then that's alot of relying on recently injured OFs...Still huuuuge Beltran fan myself...Anyway good to know that 430 didn't mean overly crazy plan...,
