  1. Yea, we've heard. Realize that he'd have to hit well in AA to get promoted...forget it...his fate is sealed.
  2. I for one am excited for Vitters 2012. IMO he's a prime breakout candidate next year, especially once he reaches the friendly confines of the PCL. It should also be noted that LeMahieu made his presence known as usual. This time it was by walking twice and scoring twice. Probably threw in some really solid D too. Have I mentioned that I think this guy can play?
  3. Mari-juana? Someone's a troublemaker up to no good. I'd say this is the kind of crime worthy of a felony charge. I, like the law, am just thinking of the children.
  4. That's awesome, but that also leaves open the possibility of Theo deciding to stay to "clean up his mess". A likely result of this whole situation IMO...He's just the one we're talking about the most right now because his team just epically collapsed so naturally his job must be in question one way or another.
  5. Tss tss the Cubs need more Homers and less Virgils ttssss ttssss.
  6. Herp I don't know. Probably intelligence or herpes or alcohol consumption or death or sumpin derp.
  7. Yes, but let's not pretend to not get what he's saying and that the book didn't play a part in the rise of what he's mocking. He could easily have said, "well, he's not actually a good RF, and LF is where you play a bad defender/good bat when 1B is occupied." It's rational, but not as funny.
  8. That was actually pretty funny. Multiply it by [expletive]...lol. *ducks* It is something of a sin to knock MoneyBall concepts nowadays, isn't it? I think it's gone as far as being described as an attack on intellectualism.
  9. Vitters really isn't as bad...iunno...he's very capable of finishing up next year as a highly significant prospect and he didn't exactly suck this year either. He'd be perfect compensation, but only because he's the kind of talent that can explode for his new franchise. Personally I like Vitters alot...hes got bat speed and contact ability....and plenty of power upside...if you ask me those are excellent ingredients to building a hitter, even if everything hasn't clicked together yet. I'm very wary on selling low on guys...I guess for the greater good...
  10. This whole Epstein thing sounds too ridiculous to be true. Edit: Then again conversation about compensation might come up.
  11. More K's than Reed and maybe less ground balls. I'm more curious to see what they do with his mechanics. I expect him to break out sometime in 2013/2014.
  12. +1,000,000 I don't think they'll waste any time looking for back of the rotation pieces when this team needs front line talent more than anything.
  13. I can't say I ever expected Josh Vitters to see any kind of significant time at 1B. His bat doesn't profile like a 1B bat really, even with power. 1B are usually one of the more patient bats on the team, and very rarely as contact oriented as Vitters is. So I have to say I'm surprised he's opening up the AFL there...I think he's a 3B or LF all the way in the long run... LeMahieu hitting 4th is funny. I'm still a huge fan of the game and I'm hoping for a strong AFL from him. I want him battling Barney for the 2B job next year. When are Cashner/McNutt hitting the mound?
  14. I forgot Jae Hoon Ha played for Daytona. BA will rue the day!!
  15. I really wouldn't mind Lackey. He's playoff tested and approved, and getting out of the AL East is good for any pitcher's numbers. Speaking of which...You guys know how many seem to assume the Yankees will chase CJ Wilson this offseason...if they are and say CC opts out...What about the Cubs going after CC? There's alot of wear and tear on that arm, but there's alot of body to take the wear and tear too. What could a Fielder/Sabathia offseason do for the Cubs? I'm asking because I'm bored and I want this whole offseason thing to start...while at the same time the playoffs are just getting good.
  16. Man, reports from experts from rival execs and those in the know make it sound like it's a two man race with a bunch of hopeful second placers sometimes. Eeeeeeeeeeenteresting, and mostly unbelievable.
  17. It really is stunning. Not the guy who I thought would have the kind of run he's had.
  18. Actually I'd like to replace Servais with Glenallen Hill.
  19. Any thoughts on Damon Oppenheimer, the Yankees' scouting director?
  20. 4 of the last 5 pitches have hit 100. Sucks that it still ended in a walk. That Verlander-ARod AB was sick to watch. ARod was able to foul off 100 like a boss.
  21. There isn't a pitcher in baseball more fun to watch than Justin Verlander. One because he's the only high end starter who can consistently pitch in the upper 90's. Two because all his other pitches are just as nasty. He doesn't even use his two seam "enough", but it's nasty as well.
  22. John Coppolela. He's kind of a scouting/saber mixture guy who Fangraphs mentioned early on as an under the radar good hiring for the Cubs job (along with names like Hahn, Ng, and others). He's been mentioned a few times on this board. Another thing about him (and Ng really) is that he came through the Yankee FO.
  23. So long as he's healthy I'm not even a little worried about a bad scouting report. For what he is, a middle relief possible set up type, he's one of the more likeable ones.
  24. Well there's not a whole part of FOs dedicated to FA signings (no FA signing coordinator or head of FA scouting or something) like there is with farm systems. The Crawford contract looks bad but he's well rounded and has the kind of athleticism that will help him age well. To me the dumb one was the Lackey contract, and he'd probably do well for an NL or nonAL East team (except Tampa who's got a nice pitchers park, maybe).
