  1. I could have told you that 10 days ago.
  2. Don't know if anyone has seen this, but some more reason to be optimistic on Josh Vitters: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2011/10/14/2490086/we-were-prospects-once-and-young http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=15295#commentMessage As most of us probably know...Vitters was drafted as a 17 year old, and has been young for every league he's played in so far...That'll end if he opens next year in AA, but just further reason I refuse to believe he's a bust in the making.
  3. ~10 days of a whole whole lot of nothing.
  4. And therefore lazy, amirite?
  5. Being younger doesn't necessarily mean safer, it means younger. Hamels has dealt with injuries in the past, though I want the Cubs to sign Hamels more than any other pitcher in FA over the next 3 years. Cain is a flyball machine with a career ERA on the road over a half run higher than at home as well as an unsustainable 3.7% HR/FB in 2011. He's pitching exactly where he should be pitching, and if not then it should be somewhere like SafeCo, Citi, Petco, or other giant park. Greinke is a strange person by many accounts, and pitched like crap these playoffs (I realize this doesn't mean too much). To top it off: You're paying them to pitch into their mid-30's anyway. Oh, and Sabathia is the best pitcher of the bunch. The only one really on his level there is Hamels, who also carried a pitching staff to a WS win. I'd like Greinke if he's willing to do the big city thing...he's got some Mike Mussina in him that makes me a fan.
  6. Signing Sabathia/Pujols doens't stop them from signing any of those other guys...Hell only one of them is a FA this year anyway, so door's still open to resigning with the old team.
  7. Pretty sure he broke the Harden trade too. Indeed. He was all over the Harden trade weeks before it happened. His sources are usually spot-on when it comes to the Cubs. The Cubs under Ricketts? I don't think anyone's had a good idea of what's going on in there since Ricketts came over...
  8. Not thinking clearly? Is that proof of something anyway? 2 - Always among the leader in alot of things. One of those things is not DL trips. 3 - I think we've seen that many very good pitchers can pitch well into their 30's. Just because he's past his statistical prime doesn't mean he suddenly loses the ability to pitch really well. Plenty of guys just in the past ten years have pitched very well into their 30's...
  9. The team with the most loaded rotation last year won the WS. Just build a good [expletive] team.
  10. What's the big deal about 30? Especially for someone the caliber of CC or since he'd fall into it too, Pujols. I'm against a Jason Bay or Alfonso Soriano like any other sensible fan, but avoiding elite talent over 30 seems a bit extreme. The Cubs could do much worse than walk out of this FA period with a CC or Pujols headlining it. Their future would be much better off.
  11. Is CJ Wilson costing himself money this postseason? Or is he just more exposed as a psuedo-ace than a "real" ace? Does it matter?
  12. BCB in general is kind of a septic tank for thought.
  13. Girls might as well not even wear underwear to the games with those two, Eh!? Maybe one day they can officially be on board.
  14. http://www.towelie-das-handtuch.de/towelie.gif I'm going with Russell/Gaub/Dolis/Cabrera/Carpenter, Clevenger, and Ha.
  15. Adam Larsson is going to be big time. Just stopped by to state the obvious.
  16. Man Lake can smack a bitch.
  17. It's not a hunt. People need to stop acting like there's more than a 1% chance of Epstein actually not being in the Cubs' employ very soon. And you probably will see a different guy as the next GM. It's more than 1%. I like the whole Pres of Baseball Operations thing with his own GM but...even then he's not the only guy THAT can happen to (Beane and Cashman instantly come to mind...maybe even the pup that is Friedman). This was reported as done almost 10 days ago...It's not...The fact that they're still trying makes me think he'll be here, but the room for a but is still there because it's not done.
  18. I usually like Gammons but I just read what he wrote...Bottom 3 my nuts. I'm getting bored of this Epstein hunt. There's almost a half dozen guys I wouldn't mind seeing as the next GM...
  19. Yeah look how right that turned out....All they did was win a WS on that arm that was so thoroughly abused by the Brewers, amirite? Any big contract can "seem" like it's a disaster in the making. You're really going to have to get over that at some point if you want to see the Cubs play with the big boys...hopefully this offseason.
  20. I wanted to come back to this thread to say Sabathia is also an obvious answer. Ace/hoss/badmamajamma...Tons left in the tank.
  21. BTW: I take back knocking Aaron Murray a little. I do like him as a QB prospect. Still wouldn't draft him in the first round, but he's got the ceiling of a 2nd round pick, though I guess someone could Ponder him. Didn't someone out there compare him to a young Brees at some point?
  22. That's really not what needs to happen though. There's 10 other players on the field, and the Raiders have alot of interesting young talent on offense to work with. He could be better than Collins. I was speaking more of him becoming the veteran, retread QB who does really well for a team in his 30's. Both have the similarities of being big armed, immobile, and disappointing very highly drafted QBs. In this sport the QB position is too vital to not go balls out on getting one. Since they're not getting Luck, better find another route to get a solid starter who can facilitate/execute the offense Jackson wants to run out there. Palmer does that and has some success then he'll get at least some of his old rep back...Given his pedigree I think there's the outside shot he takes the opportunity and runs with it.
  23. I liked the Trey Martin pick at the time despite knowing nothing about him, so I hope he's actually something. Not even a mention of Taylor Scott the 5th rounder amongst the pitchers. He's as projectable as anyone the Cubs drafted, and amongst the best athletes. His present stuff is probably a notch below the guys mentioned so it's understandable...I like Jensen but I like Scott a little more. He and Schlect are probably my favorite amongst the guys not mentioned. Oh and Austin Urban.
  24. Horsedookie. Thread needs to get to 150 by midnight with maybe 2-4 pieces of relevant news and no end in sight.
