  1. bradley is also 19th out of 27 RF in SLG and 17th in VORP. his second half numbers have brought him up to "all right" for RF, but he hasn't been "quite good"
  2. If the means to rebuild aren't there for the time being, why? What's the new guy going to do without any money that Hendry can't? Say we do get a chance to move a contract or two, don't you want the guy making those moves for possible prospects to be the guy that's going to be there building the contending team? like which ones? getting a new GM isn't going to magically make other GMs want to take on albatross contracts. nobody is going to take soriano, zambrano they'd have to eat some money, dempster same, fukudome has actually been good this year and there's not much need to trade him. they could trade lee and lilly and get some return, but that's throwing in the towel on next year. the only way i'd fire hendry is if new ownership decided to go into full-on rebuilding mode, and i doubt that will happen.
  3. has anyone done any scouting of the phillies? pedro feliz has been in the league for like 10 years and he sits on first pitch fastballs on the inner half, why would you throw that pitch?
  4. i didn't know you ate fast food.
  5. both our catchers are really good at watching strike three go right down the middle.
  6. you have to be kidding me with this bunting [expletive].
  7. i hated the pick less than the selections of guys like rundle or colvin because jackson's walk rate. yes, he strikes out too much for a guy without much power, but his strikeouts are in large part due to to his patience. i don't have any faith in the cubs' ability to teach patience, and at least jackson has that already.
  8. the main concerns with jackson were his K-rate, ability to hit for power, and likelihood to stay in CF. his K-rate is down as a pro, which is good, though the sample size is small and he's going to face more advanced breaking pitches as he moves up the ladder. he hit for no power in arizona/boise (1 double, 2 triples, 1 homer in 27 games) but has turned things up at peoria (3 doubles, 4 homers). as for staying in CF, i can't really speak to that... but at 6'2" and 210 lbs, he probably can't add much more bulk.
  9. 26 games, not 70. 26, 70, same thing basically.
  10. he didn't get a $10M bonus.
  11. i think he'll just yell at the reporter and tell him that an outsider can't understand how to manage a team.
  12. keep falling behind good hitters and then throwing straight fastballs down the middle, that's the formula for major league success.
  13. jerry meals appears to be giving pedro the crafty veteran strike zone.
  14. plus i hear there are some other fun things to do in dayton.
  15. i wouldn't give up on him as a reliever but he really doesn't look like starting material to me. his secondary stuff is nowhere near good enough.
  16. are there any major league teams with lineups that can't hit a fastball? samardzija would probably do great against them.
  17. BP and nate silver said that stats didn't work on a player like that.
  18. considering that they got 3 hits in 12 innings and won yesterday, they have no room to bitch.
  19. hey next time we give a $10M major league contract to a college baseball player, maybe we should check if he's good first.
  20. i'm not worried because the cubs aren't going to win the world series and therefore i'm not too concerned about whether or not they make the playoffs.
