You control his rights up until the next year's draft I believe. The Cowboys didn't trade for Henson's rights until day before the draft IIRC. oh... well that makes it an unlikely pick then. I can't see him changing his commitment to baseball within the next year. I think Chris Perry is done as a Bengal.

How long does an NFL team control a player's rights? The reason I ask is, if you were an NFL team, would you pick Jeff Samardzija (probably a second round talent) with a 6th or 7th round pick if you controlled his rights in case he flamed out with the Cubs, or just decided he wanted to play football instead)?

Jason Hill and Steve Smith are probably the best two available.

NFL people are talking about how much risk there is in drafting a QB in the second round... there are no sure things at any position in the second round, guys

i can't speak for cheapseats, but i do know that PECOTA projects Pie to be better than Jones. Jones -- .284/.343/.473 VORP: 12.3 WARP: 2.8 EqA: .279 Pie -- .288/.342/.480 VORP: 25.3 WARP: 5.0 EqA: .283 I have a hard time believing that a player with questionable plate discipline will be better in his first year in the bigs than he was in his first year at Iowa.

they really, really need an offensive line. With a good OL that team's offense would be scary good.

Gotta take that one on faith I guess. I have a hard time believing Kolb was the best QB in the draft for the early 2nd round. Maybe he'll prove me wrong. I've seen Kolb play quite a bit. He's got a good arm and is good on the move, but I think he's a system QB. everybody looks like a system quarterback in a system

Maybe he'll prove me wrong. he certainly had a great year statistically... 67% completions, 30/4 TD/INT, put up big games against major conference teams like Okie State and South Carolina. I think coming out of a school like Houston, he's an unknown... if this were the Raiders or Cardinals I'd be furious, but I guess the Eagles have been so good under Andy Reid & Co. that I'll give this one a chance, surprising though it may be.

i liked beck and would've been happy if the eagles picked him... but again, with the offense that we've built over the past ten years, I'll give Reid a chance. Lord knows he would've taken Beck if he really liked him.
