  1. I don't really see where Selig's at fault. There are no rules about who can spend how much on the draft. If the Royals are too cheap to pay Moutsakas, then that's their own fault. Callis has done a study showing that on average, players who are signed above slot money end up saving much more than the amount invested. They're more likely to end up with a good young player whose level of production would otherwise be very expensive on the free agent market. The Yankees and Tigers just happen to be smart enough to use the system to their advantage.
  2. could be the cubs' first LOB of the night
  3. pay up. boy am i glad soto is hitting here, he had 20 homers in iowa this year and could tie it up with one swing!
  4. i'm liking the home run part, now let's just try to fix the "nobody getting on base" and the "giving up lots of hits and runs"
  5. sweet, i was hoping the umps would take two runs off the board for the reds
  6. yeah but that didn't really feel right, rooting for a winning team. I'm much more in my comfort zone now.
  7. maybe, but i don't like when people bitch about players swinging at close pitches on a two-strike count. Everyone rips on Pie and Lee for standing there and striking out looking when they're down in the count... most hitters not named Ted Williams or Barry Bonds are going protect by swinging at close pitches in those counts.
  8. i swear, 80% of javier valentin's career hits have come against the cubs
  9. cool, i was waiting for the first "is zambrano injured" post in this thread. It's much like the "Rich Hill is a head case" post in any bad start that he has... you know it's gonna happen, it's just a matter of when.
  10. dunno... thought you were asking about CGs!
  11. congrats in advance on the perfect game, aaron
  12. not surprised that porcello got a very large deal, but a big league contract for a high school pitcher? yikes.
  13. Donaldson, Wright, Thomas and Wyatt are all putting up some nice numbers at Boise... I hope at least a couple of them can keep it up at future levels.
  14. another 2-RBI double... now he's at 2 AB, 1 R, 2 H, 5 RBI, 1 BB, 1 sac fly on the night
  15. http://firstinning.com/players/Geovany-Soto-a/ Soto has increased his BB rate each month this year, and has also increased his LD%. His BABIP is abnormally high, but in July 25% of his balls in play were line drives, and this month it's 28%.
  16. Can't fool her with your fancy boy stats! Not to mention... ](*,)
  17. soto has double and a sac fly... he's hitting .477 this month with a 1.350 OPS
  18. bad game for soto today... only 2-3 with a walk, and no home runs
  19. if soto isn't on the big club come next year i'm going to kill someone
  20. Batting Practice Brad?
  21. why's that? And I would definitely participate in the debate/discussion of the players... I used to just read through the Baseball Encyclopedia as a kid. The history of baseball, and comparing of different players, is really fascinating to me.
