  1. Don't forget the occasional "walk-off walk."
  2. First, laying it on the rookies has been working out pretty well for Bobby Cox and the Braves, hasn't it? Second, how are the rookies supposed to "step up and do the job" if they don't consistently get to play because somebody has to play the "proven veterans"?
  3. CCF, I'm coming up for the Friday game in a couple of weeks with my Card Fan husband, and brother-in-law and b-i-l's wife (does that make sense?) Maybe we can meet up in Chicago. You and I can empathize with each other...I like St. Louis other than being stuck here during baseball season and you like Chicago other than being stuck there during baseball season. :)
  4. Did anyone notice today during the Fox broadcast when LaRussa casually mentioned that he expected Rolen and Sanders to be back about the same time--the beginning of September?
  5. Bernie's reporting that Scott Rolen will be put on the DL to rest the shoulder. I guess we'll be facing Scott Seabol at 3rd base this weekend?
  6. I'll try to do better next year, Boss!
  7. Nah....I chipped in because I voted about 500 times and I know how much time that took, and I think you voted at least twice that. You rocked, Vance. :) BTW, after Paul voted for Pujols once, I went back and voted another 25 times for DLee to invalidate Paul's vote. I'm a good mom but not a saint by any means LOL.
  8. The Cardinals' record is horrible when they are trailing after 5. My husband is sorta the BOTB version of Fred...I can get the stats if you want specifics. All I remember right now is they're not pretty. I know for a fact that they have only won 1 game when they have trailed going into the ninth inning.
  9. Dare I ask, because I didn't watch the game (or even get to listen to it--stupid work ;) ), how did Kerry look tonight before he left? Like Kerry pre-2005DL or Kerry post-2005DL?
  10. Ah, but you forget that MLB is quite possibly the most reactionary sports organziation of all time. The reason they back-loaded the schedule so badly this year is because people complained last year when it was front-loaded. God forbid they just react rationally and spread out the games over the course of the season.
  11. But if you sub in at DH, then the pitcher has to bat for the rest of the game. Now in theory you could sub Pujols over to first, and then have a pinch hitter bat for the pitcher and double-switch in for the rest of the way the next time the pitcher's spot came up. I certainly wouldn't put it past LaRussa to be intrigued by the notion!
  12. My guess would be that in Hack Wilson's 190 RBI season, he had the most ever before the break, but I don't have time to go look it up.
  13. I had the pleasure of meeting Ron Santo last year. It was awesome--he was so nice. I've been rooting that much harder for the Cubs ever since I met him. He deserves to see the Cubs win it all before he leaves this earth.
  14. It'd take something special to pick Dusty off in the dug-out with a foul ball. Is it too much to hope Corey could do it and redeem himself? Dusty got hit by a foul ball last year. hit by Jose Macias, no less. Yet he still plays Macias. I don't get it. Macias has started exactly 5 games out of 82 this year. Compare that to the amount of playing time he got last year. Dusty seems to fall madly in love with one stinky bench player every year, and this year it's Neifi. Poor Gremlin. Yet he keeps the former stinky bench player on the roster. Set the Gremlin free--let him suck up some other club's bench!
  15. I'm 31, and my dad was born in 1946, so CCF's dad wasn't necessarily around in 1945. My dad passed away in 1998, so he didn't get to see it either. But he wasn't a Cubs fan so it probably didn't bother him too much. Thank God for my Uncle Tommy who made sure I got a good baseball foundation after my parents split up. Uncle Tommy, by the way, was born in 1936 and isn't getting any healthier. So it would be nice if the Cubs could win soon.
  16. Ok, I'm out of here....going to go try to find some fireworks to watch. I hope we can make the big comeback while I'm gone...if we can't find some offense, we could be in third place by the All-Star Break. :(
  17. I thought about going as well but needed some rest. Maybe DLEE reads NSBB and took Vance out to dinner. Well, if he does, he's not interested in having me carry his baby. :)
  18. I almost went down to Atlanta for this game. I'm glad now that I didn't. Poor Vance. Hope Baby Addison is holding up ok in the rain.
  19. Neifi Perez AB R H RBI BB K LOB Season Avg 3 0 0 0 0 0 6 .267 6 men LOB. That's horrible :(
  20. These games would be a lot less depressing if the Cards fan in the house wasn't also usually listening to the Cardinals win while I am usually "watching" the Cubs lose. :x
  21. Nevermind...it apparently just took them a while to tell me that Jeromy walked! Maybe the program couldn't believe a Cub leading off had actually walked ;)
  22. What's with the delay? Is Sportsline lagging or is it raining really hard?
  23. I think he may hit .400 at some point this season, but I don't think he'll be there at the end of the season. I predict .345
