  1. if it were samardzija, hammel, and valbuena for mckinnel, russell, and a supposed arm, who realistically would the pitcher be?
  2. FIP half a run better than Tanaka in about half as many innings
  3. that catch was awesome. surely he made some self-deprecating comment afterwards
  4. in a seven game series, how many games could iowa take against the major league team?
  5. by the way, the iowa cubs are up 14 - 1 in the top of the 6th whoops. 10 - 1. 14 hits. the announcer made it sound confusing talking about possibly breaking the season high of 17 runs in a game.
  6. Javy walks, then Vailaika hits a grand slam Manny Corpas is not doing very well
  7. bryant goes high off the 16 foot wall, "about fourteen feet up", and "settles" for a double
  8. or that he's a damn good talent judge. if you're a smart team it doesn't matter if someone is familiar with the organization or not, it's whether an individual is the most capable in running the organization well.
  9. also, i think this speaks to the current FO's system, that the team that has been one of, if not the, worst winning teams on the major league level over the last few seasons has it's third in charge on teams' short list for GM interviews when openings occur.
  10. figured this fits here http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/jason-mcleod-on-scouting-and-player-development/ interview with mcleod before sd tapped him for an interview. really good read.
  11. just watched valbuena's triple where span just threw his arms up like they were at a miley cyrus concert wish i got csn here, this has to be a blast to watch live
  12. what the hell is going on in the game? gameday said there was a triple, then a walk. then a walk, then a sacrifice bunt instead...
  13. end of the day at least there are a couple very good young players to watch play baseball every day until the supposed pennant chases of the future come around. it's a delight to watch rizzo take his plate appearances.
  14. It really seems like almost none of the big ones pan out anymore. I know that's not the case, but damn if there haven't been a lot of massive busts on huge contracts lately. This is true. But there's this meme that pops up every so often where people act like the FO skillfully avoided some anchor contracts when really they simply just didn't have/didn't spend the money. i would argue that in obtaining/locking up rizzo that that is definitively skillful. So what? The main reason they've skipped out on any big FA signings is because they didn't have the money to do so; you really think that if Ricketts had said "OK, you can spend whatever you need" they would have just ignored guys like Fielder or Pujols or Upton? the so what was contained in whether or not the moves they made (or didn't make, by proxy) were (or were not) skillful. they've bid high on players like tanaka. they did a better job by trading for, then locking up rizzo through what should be his peak years; and i don't think the current front office ignores any option, though that is opinion. i still doubt they would have signed fielder or pujols. either upton is not a concern in this conversation, which is based on filling a need at first base long term.

  16. lulz @ 41m/7 + two option years in 2020/21
  17. so, remember when signing pujols as a free agent was a thing? .933 OPS, .403 wOBA, 155 wRC+ .795 OPS, .339 wOBA, 119 wRC+ thank you, based theo
  18. he has to be somehow related to Ruth.
  19. i like jackson's swing. found myself saying 'it's getting loopy' or 'he's going to regress to old form there' but he was repeating well, in the main areas that needed to be facilitated, and looked fluid, as well as though he was going to all fields with level tact. he has his AAA plate appearances, but i wonder if such changes demand more at bats in Iowa for focus' sake.
  20. this Orioles, Tigers, Cubs thing is picking up steam. but no clue who the names are.
