  1. Theo treated with him respect. He does not deserve the job because he was a Cubs great. The only thing that Theo owes the Cubs or its fans (knowledgeable and meatball) is to find a manager that is going to produce the most wins.
  2. Heyman is really on top of things with the flash about Greg having been a Cub. Ha. I thought the same thing when I saw that. Been watching/listening to Maddux since I moved to TX and he has done a tremendous job since coming to the Rangers.
  3. Per Jon Heyman's twitter account...
  4. I realize I am pointing this out late and believe me, I am not defending LaRussa in this situation, but it is true that you CANNOT see into the visiting bullpen from the visiting dugout. There is a large screen up that the relievers warm up behind.
  5. no response to this post, just want to say the gif in your sig is amazing The only thing better than Ron Washington on a nightly basis is playoff Ron Washington on a nightly basis.
  6. I think that's what the rumor is. Theo targeting Maddux as the new manager. The rumor reported in the Tribune was as pitching coach. Then forget it. No way is Rangers are going to give him up for lateral move. Why would they? They wouldn't and he likely wouldn't either. I do think he'd make a great manager.
  7. Mike Maddux is under contract for a few more years as pitching coach in Texas and the only way I would see him coming to the Cubs is as manager.
  8. The rumor around here is that Rangers Asst. GM Thad Levine will be interviewed after the World Series.
  9. Nolan says Rangers in six.
  10. Oh, well in that case........ Does that not factor into the durability question? No, an arm is not a lung. Big fat slobs have had very durable arms. It's also just a throwaway line by you that obviously cannot be verified. It is certainly true that I haven't seen every other pitcher in the MLB work out or have knowledge of their workout routines. How about this: CJ Wilson works incredibly hard at his conditioning and has not had anything close to a durability issue in his two seasons as a starter.
  11. Oh, well in that case........ Does that not factor into the durability question?
  12. There is not a better conditioned pitcher in MLB than CJ Wilson. He was the one driving the train on being a starter two years ago and came to camp in incredible condition, pitched his ass off, and earned a spot in the rotation. CJ also loves to hit, so there is some appeal to the National League for him.
  13. Glad to see Max get a fresh start. Solid bat that can play multiple positions. He's not a plus defender but isn't terrible either. Definitely would be preferable to Hill as a backup.
  14. He also gets to hit in between Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz. Rangers lineup will be potent again. Andrus Young Hamilton Beltre Cruz Kinsler Moreland Borbon/Murphy Torrealba
  15. I am not going to fight about it. I have my opinion, y'all have yours. I don't have anything personally against Harden, I just think his time as even a decent pitcher is over and that anyone expecting anything from him this season is likely to be disappointed.
  16. How is Harden a head case? Guys that get hurt are [expletive] It has nothing to do with the injury thing. Ever met him? He's the kind of guy my grandmother would have called a space cadet.
  17. http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/texas-rangers/post/_/id/4858972/rangers-didnt-cross-7th-parallel-for-cliff-lee On Mike & Mike this morning Greenberg made the case that missing out on Lee might've been the best thing to happen to the Rangers. They saved face with their fanbase while also avoiding a potentially crippling contract. They had to go for it. Only hindsight will tell us if avoiding seven years was a blessing or a curse. I lean towards blessing. It will hurt in the short term unless the Rangers can make a move for Grienke without getting totally pantsed.
  18. From Chuck Greenberg... Seven guaranteed would have gotten a deal done. Rangers were not willing to make that commitment, so he went to Philly for 120 guaranteed over 5. http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/texas-rangers/post/_/id/4858972/rangers-didnt-cross-7th-parallel-for-cliff-lee
  19. I don't think he wanted to be "the man" in Texas. I don't think he was ever comfortable with all the hero worship they placed on him. What are you basing this on? Thats been all of the talk here in Dallas this morning, but I think its mostly an excuse. They are also saying now they were not comfortable giving him all of that money too. He seemed to enjoy being the spotlight on the mound during the playoffs. We didn't want him anyway! Besides, he wasn't Texas tough!! The discomfort was real. Ryan said it very plainly that six years made them uncomfortable, but they did it. To be sure, bitter, uneducated Rangers fans will throw vitriol Lee's way. But that doesn't mean that there is some relief that (1) it's over and they can move on, and (2) they didn't commit 140 million dollars to a guy that is 32 with some troubling signs of back issues. All that being said, I really wish he had come back to Texas, but I respect the way the Rangers approached the situation and I think the long term future of the Rangers under this new ownership group is bright.
  20. Very disappointing from the Rangers fan perspective. I think Texas needed him, but there was definitely some discomfort, particularly on Ryan's part, to commit that much money to a 32 year old pitcher. I think this paves the way for Feliz to go into the rotation.
  21. The Rays do an incredible job with there resources, and one of the best scouting and development departments around too. When their payroll craters I am afraid they will return to fourth place in the AL East.
  22. He's arbitration eligible and Texas isn't exactly flush with cash. The Rangers are expected to have a payroll in the 85-90 million category next year. The new ownership group, because of who's in it and because of their new TV deal with FoxSports, will have a significantly larger pool of money to play with.
  23. Can't understand why the Rangers would give up O'Day. He's been as solid a BP arm as they've had and he's popular in the clubhouse. I can see giving Chris Davis a fresh start, but shipping out O'Day doesn't make a ton of sense.
  24. Chris Davis is an excellent defensive 1st baseman. He's a big, athletic guy with good hands and range and is excellent at picking balls at first. He's also more than adequate at 3rd base. He's definitely a buy low guy for all the struggles he had with the Rangers big club. The Rangers somewhat panicked with twice this season. They didn't give him much time before they went to Justin Smoak and then when the Lee deal was made, they didn't give him much time before going to Mitch Moreland. He desperately needs a change of scenery, I think, to kick start his career. I certainly wouldn't give up on him yet.
