  1. I'd think the odds are much greater that Bay returns to his career norms than Marmol repeats his numbers this season. And even if Marmol improves his numbers, if Bay returns to his career numbers, he's more valuable than Marmol.
  2. I like Bay as much as the next guy, but that package seems like too much. Take out Marmol and it works. Not for the Pirates it doesn't. Well, then they get to keep Bay. Agreed. No way I give up our best reliever - who happens to be making league minimum. If Bay returns to his career norms, his value is much, much greater than Marmol or any reliever for that matter.
  3. Do you think that Dempster, Howry, Marmol and Eyre are better relief pitchers than Wood right now, or do they keep the spots that they have just because Lou doesn't want to get guys out of the "comfort zones" that relievers get into? I admit that I may not be able to be unbiased when it comes to Kerry, but I think he's pitched better lately than all of those pitchers with the possible exception of Marmol...although Marmol has had his moments lately too. If Kerry is feeling good enough to be stretched out into a starter again, what's the problem with putting him as a 4th or 5th starter behind Z, Lilly and Hill? (And probably Marquis since we're likely stuck with him.) I don't think he could be worse than the 5th pitcher options we tried this year. Where would Prior slot in? bullpen in the role Wood vacates to become a starter.
  4. According to BP, we have a 92.9% chance.
  5. Nate Silver has an article on the biggest collapses in regards to teams who had the highest odds to reach the postseason and yet blew it. (The 1969 Cubs rank fifth on his list; top spot belonging to the 1995 Angels.) Here's what he says about the teams in the National League. Link.
  6. I hope I don't offend anyone here, but I need to do this. Just win, bitches.
  7. Yes, we gave up too much. Trachel has been nothing short of atrocious. Hart could have given us the innings Traschel has. Unless Marshall is hurt, the trade was pointless. At the time, I said it was too much, but since the parts were expendable I wasn't too outraged. I'm still not that as upset that those guys aren't in the system any longer, as I am that we keep wasting starts on trash like Traschel.
  8. Maybe Maddux will find some magic and suddenly pitch like it's 1995 again.
  9. Not a chance in hell would Kerry stay healthy as a starter. He is better off staying in the pen throwing limited pitches. I think he'd be fine. Just as Smoltz was fine when he reverted back to starting.
  10. Ok, magic number is 2. Another Cub win or Brewers loss will guarantee at least a tie.
  11. I'd like to stretch Wood back out as a starter for next season.
  12. Padres get a force at home. 1 out, bases still juiced with Gonzalez batting.
  13. Padres load em up because King is too fat to jump.
  14. Also, we could substitute Hart for Marshall if they desired.
  15. Would the Pirates consider a package of Murton, Marshall, Marmol, and a minor leaguer for Bay?
  16. Burger King into pitch for the Brewers.
  17. I went with the Rangers because I usually see a couple of their games each year, but I'm pretty apathetic when it comes to the AL.
