  1. Unless we're making a run at Wagner or B.J. Ryan, I'd hope they will make re-signing Dempster a priority. 10 million over two years seems like a fair price.
  2. I found this article in the Sun Times witha short list of possible offseason acquisitions. In summary here are some of the names listed: 1. Furcal 2. Nomar 3. Marcus Giles  4. Alex Gonzalez (Marlins) 5. Soriano 6. Milton Bradley 7. Johnny Damon 8. Kenny Lofton 9. Brian Giles 10. Aubrey Huff 11. Cliff Floyd There are others as well. This was the one that got my attention the most. As much as I like Walker, I think I'd do that deal if the Braves were willing to make that switch. Giles's 294/367/457 line would look nice with the Cubs. He's 27 yrs old and would fit well within the nucleus we've established. I'm all for keeping Walker, but if Walker + Patterson nets Giles, then let's make a deal.
  3. Cmon Ramirez >>> Walker. Give me Furcal and Cedeno up the middle. Ramirez is greater than Walker, but at a much greater cost. Both should be part of the Cubs plans this season. Also they are similar relative to their competition performance wise. Both are probably close to top 5 in the league for their position without looking it up. EDIT: Ramirez is 2nd in NL 3B in OPS, Walker is 3rd among NL 2B. Ramirez is quite a bit younger though and they don't have any waiting in the wings to take over for ARam. Cedeno could play third. My point wasn't trying to say Walker is more valuable than Ramirez. Both players are much better than league average at their positions. My point was saying that there is more reasons to criticize Ramirez and chastise him as there are to do such to Walker. Considering Ramirez is due over ten million next season and Walker is due 2.5 million, I just can't fathom why people don't want Walker back at that price.
  4. Giles is very realistic. If the Cubs went with Walker (2.5) at 2nd and Nomar at SS (5-6 + incentives) the money will be there to pursue Giles.
  5. Cmon Ramirez >>> Walker. Give me Furcal and Cedeno up the middle. Ramirez is greater than Walker, but at a much greater cost. Both should be part of the Cubs plans this season.
  6. Yeah, let's get rid of a secondbaseman that hit 302/355/475 at 2.5 million for the sake of chemistry. Read again. There's more to it than just chemistry. He's getting older (who doesn't?) and so he might be injury-prone? Yet, you want to acquire Cliff Floyd. Cliff Floyd's an ideal clean-up guy for Baker. Murton can bat second in the order and they can give Cedeno the 2b job. Why not keep Walker's cheap production and go for a better upgrade than Floyd?
  7. And it's not like we're signing Walker to a long-term deal either. It's one year at 2.5 million. His numbers are very good at a very good price. The grasping at straws of those who want Walker gone is pretty comical. I don't know why there are so many Walker detractors. You don't see people attacking Ramirez this way when his defense is worse than Walker's, he's just as injury prone, seems to lack hustle while Walker doesn't, and makes a hell of a lot more money than Walker. If we want to upgrade our defense, why not trade Ramirez and look for a better defensive thirdbaseman. We could even save some money then....
  8. Yeah, let's get rid of a secondbaseman that hit 302/355/475 at 2.5 million for the sake of chemistry.
  9. Does anyone think that Dusty does stuff like this just because "he can?" It is getting to the point where there is no possible way to rationalize his actions other than stubbornness, and not willing to admit he is wrong That thought has crossed my mind.
  10. No way man, at least his .276 BA isn't a soft one. :lmao:
  11. If I can get Nomar at 5 + incentives, that's the route I'd go. I'd use Cedeno as the back-up SS/2b/3b.
  12. Can you make your point without comments like: Yes, I've watched him. What specifically about his ability is bothering you? or maybe comments like this: I've probably watched more games than you have, and not just of the Cubs. Assuming I don't watch baseball because I disagree with you is arrogant and just plain stupid. Can I assume you can't perform basic math skills since you don't understand stats? I think we watch plenty of games. I think maybe it's time you got a clue about how to evaluate player performance and you might could actually figure out which players have contributed to the poor state of this team. Let me give you a hint...it's not Walker. (Another hint: Perez is part of the problem)
  13. And this thread is the perfect occasion for all to re-read this thread.
  14. So, let me get this straight.... You don't like Walker because it doesn't seem like he gets any clutch hits, you believe his defense is sub-par, and he talks too much. Lots of baseball acumen there, let me tell ya. And for the record...I'd take Walker over Grudzielanek every day of the week and twice on Sundays, and probably three times on Memorial Day and the Fourth of July.
  15. I would like to know who those "sources" are before I put much stock into any of that chatter.
  16. It's the same as Clemen's soft 1.89 ERA.
  17. Let's see...Walker hit 305/355/475 this season. I'll take that at 2.5 million for next season. I don't think he's hurting anyone with his comments. He shows up to play everyday and while he isn't stellar defensively, the metrics indicate his defense is hardly the problem people make it out to be. Walker is not the problem with this team.
  18. For the price, I'm keeping Walker at the very inexpensive 2.5 million option as the starter at second base. Cedeno will make the minimum and be used as a back-up infielder and reserve starter in case of injury. I'll tender Hairston a contract and keep him as substitute infielder/outfielder.
  19. It appears there's some dissention among the team on the Southside. Guillen is apparently mifed that Everett (surprise, surprise) is complaining about being moved down in the line-up. Link Losing seems to be taking it's toll.
  20. According to the Baltimore Sun (registration required), Sosa's season is finished. It was a dissapointing season for the future HOFer. Baltimore isn't likely to re-sign him in the offseason. The question exists: Does Sosa have anything left? Will any teams take a chance on him this offseason?
  21. Updated numbers: Carpenter: 21-5; 2.71 ERA; WHIP 1.04 Willis: 22-9; 2.44 ERA; WHIP 1.09 Clemens: 12-8; 1.89 ERA; 1.00 WHIP Willis's credentials now equal Carpenter's. With one start for each left this season(Clemens is not starting today), it could still go either way. I'm still inclined to go with Clemens, but Dontrelle has come on strong enough to overtake Carpenter in some of the voting.
  22. I'm in and since I know nothing about hockey, I should finish dead last. Anyone I finish ahead of should really be embarrassed.
  23. No...I think you're really reaching here. Realllly....reaching.
