  1. THE DON'S final line: 4.0IP, 2H, 3R, 3ER, 7BB, 3K He has a 9.39 ERA so far this season.
  2. THE DON through 3 innings has given up 3ER with 6BB.
  3. Samardzija is a ways behind Veal and Gallagher, IMO. He's still very raw. He still has a lot of work to do on his secondary pitches. He's mostly throwing fastballs so far.
  4. Ugh. Ugh. He struck out 2 guys in a row, and looked like he was going to get out of the jam, but then gave up an rbi single to the pitcher and then walked in another run. He finally gets out of it after giving up 2 runs. 2-0 Huntsville. He's really struggling with the command. Jake Fox made a spectacular catch to end the inning. Apparently he ran through a gate after making the catch. He came back into the field of play with the ball though.
  5. THE DON is having some serious control problems in the 2nd. He's walked the bases loaded, nobody out.
  6. Sounds like Colvin hit a solo shot. He's got a double and a homer so far in the game.
  7. THE DON goes 1-2-3 with a K to start the 2nd game.
  8. Bah. Samardzija gives up a solo homerun in the bottom of the 3rd. It's 2-1 Vero Beach going to the top of the 4th.
  9. Samardzija gives up a single to start the 2nd inning, but no runs. After 2, it's tied 1-1.
  10. He's done for the night, so that's his final line.
  11. Who cares at this point. They're both ruined. Time to move on.
  12. The Cubs should just demote Prior to single-A Peoria and make him pitch out of the bullpen.
  13. And the Iowa radio feed has crapped out.
  14. Iowa lines up like this (according to Gameday): 1. Fontenot SS 2. Patterson 2b 3. Pie CF 4. Hoffpauir 1b 5. Moore 3b 6. Soto C 7. Coats RF 8. Pagan LF 9. O'Malley P Iowa goes 1-2-3 in the top half of the first inning.
  15. Felix has much more velocity on his fastball than Z, though Z might have a bit more movement. But Z doesn't have the sink and tail on his fastball that he had when he was an extreme gb pitcher a few years back. We'll call it a push, though Felix has shown better command of the pitch so far this year than Z has ever had with his. Felix has a superior slider to Z. Wicked movement and it comes in a 91-93 mph. The speed makes hitters read fastball all the way. Felix has a great curve he can throw for strikes. Z has no curve. Neither change is fantastic, but I'd give an edge to Felix's. I've been wondering about this. Why has Z changed so much from just a few years ago. A couple years ago he never gave up homeruns. He's already given up 4 this year. He seems to be trying to strike people out instead of getting the ground ball. I'd rather have the extreme groundball Z.
  16. We'd just ruin him.
  17. And he's been officially jinxed. :D
  18. Haha. Everyone in the stadium is taking pictures. Just look at how many cameras are just behind home plate. Insane.
  19. Like I said in a gamethread, they only have 1 lefty out of the pen. Let's trade them Eyre for Lidge. Makes perfect sense. :D
  20. Win what now though? We can likely win this division with 85-90 wins, and that's not far off the projections. We're 3-5 right now, 1 game back. There's no good teams around. I strongly suspect there will be few complaints if this team goes to the playoffs, and a mediocre team will do that. As for 100 years of losing, I've been as vocal as anyone over that. I'm frustrated too. I'm a little confused by the World Series expectations, though. I never thought this team was going to do that. I have difficulty understanding anyone who thinks this team needs to win it all this year, regardless of the money spent. The Cubs have the money to spend, so why shouldn't they spend it? What makes people think the cash flow is suddenly going to go dry? We drew another 3 million people last year for a horrid team. I think the thing that really ticks me off the most is that the Tribune probably let Hendry spend the $300 million to drive up the price of the Cubs, and not so they could leave on a good note by winning the World Series. I'm just glad that a new owner will be in place after this season and that hopefully their first order of business is to fire Hendry. The man has shown over and over again that he doesn't understand how to put together a ballclub.
  21. We're coming up on 100 years of losing, and I think people are starting to get a little tired of it. I think people have a right to be concerned. This team isn't a sure thing to win anything, and I think most people think spending $300 million in the offseason should mean we've got a really good chance to win the World Series. Most people (including writers and analysts) are guessing this team will win about 83-85 games this year. That's not what most people are looking for when we spent so much money this offseason. We're in a win-it-now mentality without a win-it-now team. And if they don't win now, we're going to be in trouble in a few years because so much money has been backloaded.
  22. Everything is fine except take Jones out of the lineup. Put Theriot out in RF. Jones has shown over and over again that he can't hit lefties. I don't want him anywhere near the batter's box when we're facing a lefty. I still wish we had a little more pop off the bench from the right side, but Theriot is the best option, so I'd go with him.
  23. Wow. That's like straight out of the Dusty Baker school of thought. Next he'll say the dark-skinned players on the team should get more playing time in the summer because they're more suited to play in the heat.
  24. So, how many teams will be over .500 in the NL Central this year?
