  1. The inability of the Astros to capitalize is absolutely maddening.
  2. What the heck is wrong with a city going gaga over a team playing for the championship? How is there any justification in labeling that mania as hypocrisy? I've lived in NY for ten years, so I know what it's like to watch obnoxious fans' arrogance grow ten fold in October. Regardless, I'm really disappointed in how willing Cubs fans have been to take the bait and let this affect them. Worry about the Cubs. If somebody gets off acting like an ass because his team is winning this year, it just reflects poorly on him. Hell, I'm getting married soon and half my chicago family that's coming is Sox fans who will be very willing to remind me about the Cubs record. I don't care. I think you people who are so upset about this need to take a step back and stop taking it so seriously. And quit acting like Sox fans who can't get over the other team in town and how they affect their lives. I wouldn't care if it was any other city that was going gaga over their team. I understand that it will happen anywhere, but it hurts as a Cub fan to see it happening to the other team in Chicago. And not only to see it happening, but being unable to avoid it. You absolutely cannot listen to the radio or drive down the street without being reminded that the Sox are on the verge of the championship you want for your team more than anything. I don't want to hear about the Sox in the middle of May, much less constantly hear about their success at the end of October. I don't want to see fakely enthusiastic newscasts devoting half of their program to a team that I don't care about. I am admittedly jealous of the White Sox success and being constantly reminded of it is painful. Btw, O_O, your post on the first page was brilliant.
  3. He may have been less inclined to walk to first base if Berkman hadn't "danced" his way around the bases earlier, and if the Astros' dugout hadn't been high-fiving before the final out of the game, and if they hadn't celebrated on the field after Game 4. You're making something of nothing. Every player isn't a Pete Rose type who sprints around the bases every time he makes contact. Why is it so wrong for the Astros to be excited about an important home run, game-ending double play that nobody thought could be made, or being one out away from the World Series? Somebody earlier said "act like you've been there" when they were giddy before the last out. But the Astros haven't been there. The atmosphere was electric, they were up two runs with nobody on and two outs and the best reliever in baseball on the mound. Showing excitement in that situation isn't unprofessional, it's human. I don't care if Pujols walked to first or not, but doubt he did it because of what the Astros were doing earlier.
  4. The Illini upset of Penn St. will be a big game.
  5. Thats so wrong we've been 60 years in between WS appearences. We totally rule futility! We still have to get back before we can claim that one.
  6. It didn't last yr, when the Cards may the playoffs, after making winning the division an "EASY" chore. And I AGREE with Soul, I'm rooting for the Sox, not because they are from Chicago,, but because EVERY WIN, pulls the noose tighter and tighter, every win, makes Dusty Baker (and to a certain degree Hendry) seat a little bit hotter. If the Sox won the World Series, could you imagine the ridicule Baker and Hendry would face heading into the postseason. There would be literally a RIOT. All I know is...the Cubs organization needs a kick in the butt, even if it's from the "Lightning in the bottle" White Sox. If it didn't happen when the Cards won last year, why would it if the White Sox win this year? I just don't foresee a riot, literal or figurative, if that happens. I really don't understand that way of thinking.
  7. No offense, Sir Knight-life, but that's a "homer" response. Go with the Phins. Cadillac Williams is hurt and may not play, leaving Brian Greise, Michael Pittman and Joey Galloway. Carnell Williams will play, and the Bucs will win. Please don't hurt Holt. He is really helping my fantasy team. I thought Holt was Q as it was. I'd start the Dolphins D. Indy's good, but St. Louis could put up a high score especially with that dome-on-turf thing. With Cadillac being a little bruised, I don't see TB doing any high scoring. JC, do you lose points for every point your D gives up? I've never heard of that, it makes a good D that much more valuable.
  8. Ugh. 3-0 WS after 1/2 inning. I did like this McCarver line though: "There are more home runs hit off of breaking balls and offspeed pitches than any other pitch in the game." Umm, you mean a fastball? How many other pitches are there?
  9. What??? Cano was clearly off the bag because he was avoiding the slide into second. I agree that he was off the bag (barely). He's safe by the rulebook, I can't argue that. But it really had no bearing on the play. SS do that all the time when turning the double play. The ump shouldn't be making a statement like that in a playoff game. That's just my opinion. OK, we posted at the same time. I'm especially burned by it because it's the type of play a Yankee would have called in their favor. Heaven forbid, a Yank would get taken down by a hard slide into second. haha. Yeah I understand that. I'm certainly not crying about it, I just think the ump shouldn't take such a prominent stance in the playoffs. Oh well, play's over. I'm still enjoying the 3 run lead. :) edit: it's not like i enjoyed agreeing with Joe Morgan.

  11. That's a bad call. I hate the Yanks, but gimme a break.
  12. Does anybody really think that Cubs management would try harder after seeing the Red Sox and White Sox win the WS? I seriously doubt Hendry is sitting there thinking 'Well I could get this guy who could put us over the top, let me see... have the Sox won the World Series recently? Yeah? Well I better get him then.' Nor will I want the Cubs to win the WS any more than I already do just because of a recent Sox championship. Any die-hard fan will want them to win just as much in 2006 as they did in 2004. Any 'Wrigley atmosphere' fan won't care.
  13. Heh heh. Scooter learnz me so much about baseball.
  14. I dislike the Cardinals more than the White Sox, BUT, it would be less tolerable for the White Sox to win. I'd have to hear it from the few White Sox friends I have, from my boss, from the media... ugh. Awful. And of course, I want the first Chicago WS title in forever to be a Cubs celebration.
  15. They've actually started doing this to the back wall along Sheffield, I noticed today.
  16. Poor puppies.
  17. Come on, Indians. Do it for the puppies!
  18. Am I the only person on this website that hates the Red Sox? Base hit for Burnie! I'm sick of them, but it's kinda hard to root for the Yanks.
  19. make up call? BTW, CLE tied it 1-1 in the bottom of the 9th That was an exciting end to the bottom of the 9th, then i flip to the Cubs game and see an exciting end to the top of the 8th. edit: both not turning out the way i wanted. :(
  20. I wouldn't sleep with Angelina.
  21. Hawk's call: "That's way back....... 6-0 Indians."
  22. Comcast Sports screwed up for anyone else? Btw, the White Sox radio announcer just said that the long flyout hit by Dye was "too high". Classic, especially during an Indians game. Sadly, he was serious.
  23. Federer has won 23 straight Finals matches. That is incredible domination. I agree that it's probably too early to accurately judge, but ever since Roger peaked he has absolutely owned men's tennis.
