  1. I thought I read this Morning November. Dang. I was hoping there was a chance it might be within a couple of weeks. A couple of weeks in impossible. I don't think many realize what is involved in the sale of a ballclub.
  2. Makes me think it's just Cuban, or that he has the vast majority of the stake. Wikipedia says Cuban has a net worth of 2.8 billion. Cuban is the figurehead similar to Reinsdorf with the Sox exception being that Cuban would not be holding a minority interest as Reinsdorf does.
  3. With Zell, maybe but not with MLB. It requires approval by 75% of the ownership as you probably already know. Look at what happened in Boston with the sale of the Red Sox.
  4. Real mature. Do you know either of these guys? I do. One seems to have two WS rings that he won as the GM of the Minnesota Twins.
  5. He has no baseball acumen and he doesn't understand the business. This is a position of vanity for Kenney and he doesn't seem to realize he has been kicked to the curb by Zell either since there is a new General Counsel for Tribune Company.
  6. Does Ricketts have Chicago ties? Also, I think the pink hat guy was going to submit a bid too. Pink hat guy as you call him is Jim Anixter. He wasn't allowed to buy the team last time it was up for sale and he won't be allowed to buy it this time. Let's say if it came down to him and Cuban, baseball would be happy to sell to Cuban. Anixter is a complete lunatic. I always smile when I see him behind home plate though. Dunno why. If his group wins, feel bad for every unattached single person in the office especially the women who are the same age as his sons. ;)
  7. Yeah, realized that after I started reading, Tiger. My bad. I was going with the title of the thread which had been changed.
  8. Absolutely not. Canning will be in another group that is a finalist and isn't Cuban or Anixter. Going to play out like things did in Boston and Washington.
  9. He was in a group though, right? Was it Canning's group? I'm not sure who's group he was in. I just know he was putting together a group. He is in with Thomas Mandler and supposedly Billy Williams is a part of this group.

  11. Not sure you realize Crane Kenney and Mike Lufrano are already sucking up to Cuban to keep their jobs. It's why you don't want Cuban on board among a myriad of other reasons. Why would you say Mark McGuire sucks? What has he ever done to you? McDonough left because they would not give him a guaranteed contract that would protect him when the new owner took over. McDonough was to naive to realize that he was made President over McGuire for a reason...to be the sacrificial lamb. McGuire is safe either way you look at it by being left as the EVP of Business Ops. Bottom line, MLB will align Canning with the most palatable group that is not Cuban. This way that group can easily be the highest bidder and the problem is solved. Similar to the Red Sox situation and how they added John Henry to the group to up the bid.
  12. how about the fact that he's tied for first in era+...ALL TIME? Seriously? That's wild. TJ did well out of the bullpen the other night. He hit 91 on the gun actually and retired the side 1-2-3. Maybe he should consider pitching since Aviles has obviously stolen his job away. Cannot be any worse than the likes of Jimmy Gobble and Joel Peralta.
  13. I am a bit shocked at this turn of events. History tells me that MLB hooks Canning in with one of the current survivors of the cuts who isn't Cuban. This way the bid get increased by the group and hence that group becomes the highest bidder. There is another reason I don't want Cuban to get this team...I get the impression that he is going retain some of the higher ups (Kenney and co) and they need to go. http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/chi-thur_cubs_auction0724jul24,0,4637280.story

  15. Really? Miller is definitely better defensively but Barrett was better by a wide margin offensively while here and was able to play more regularly. Pitching staff was far better with Miller behind the plate. Once again, offense gets the glory but defense wins the game. So Barrett got Wood and Prior injured? In 2003 the team's ERA+ was 113. In 2004 it was 115. Basically, you are completely wrong. Okay, just so glad that 2004 team got as deep into the postseason as the 2003 team.
  16. Because it is about more than stats. Teams don't want the PR nightmare nor all the baggage that Barry brings along. So it's not collusion.
  17. It would be low class and get someone fired. Just ask the dude who lost his job at Comiskey for playing White Snake songs when Chuck Finley was still playing.
  18. i'd guess it was because barrett was substantially better at baseball. though i'm guessing miller was really nice to you or something. Miller handled the staff better.

  20. Absolutely not. Besides, there isn't enough room in the clubhouse for him to have his own corner with his big barcolounger.
  21. Ryne was retired from the game before I started there. But I can say one thing, those stories are asbolutely false.
  22. Why would you want a job for such a short period of time? The new owner is going to come in and clean house. He will want his own people on board. Besides, most don't leave during the season especially a season like this one. They would lost their ticket access.
  23. It's pretty simple...gave it a lot of thought and remembered that life is too short to get upset over what someone I don't know and will never meet says on a message board. Plus there are people who go on message boards just to rile others up. Besides, baseball is just a game. It isn't life and death.
  24. Did someone say something? Oh maybe I am hearing things.
  25. First, how was I to know he had cancer? I didn't. Second, I wasn't trying be be insenstitive and tried to put it as nicely as I could. I wasn't trying to bring anyone down in any way. I knew someone would misinterpret it as happens to me often here. So I apologize. SSBW, I apologize but I didn't know.
