  1. Does Brian Giles want to leave the West Coast? I would not mind seeing an outfield mix of: Nomar, Murton and CPatt until Pie is ready. That assumes that CPatt is available. If not, can we get someone serviceable like Randy Winn and keep CPatt on the bench?
  2. Murton with the intentional walk. I would love to give him an outfield spot for next year.
  3. I put Rusch's chances of pulling this off somewhere around .5%. That's way higher than I would have thought before the game started. I think it would be an even bigger upset considering who he beat out in the starting rotation.
  4. Diving towards first base is also a great way to get hurt. Hairston just got off the DL so I wish he was more careful. I can't even remember the last time I saw someone dive towards first and get called safe.
  5. Great job and congrats! MVP!
  6. This is the 2003 Patterson that we all know and love! I'm obviously not as optimistic as I was before the season. I still hold out hope that CPatt can be a valuable asset for the Cubs.
  7. I was at the game today and I have tickets to the game tomorrow. That being said, this current team is not a playoff team. They are fundamentally poor on defense and impatient at the plate. Injuries have ravaged the team. We need a Dusty Baker September (last year was an anomaly) to make the wild card. I am ecstatic about 2006. Hendry has provided for a ton of payroll flexibility. I hope Murton gets a shot to hit #2. I hope Pie shows up with plate discipline around late May. I hope that Hill and J. Williams can take additional steps forward. I hope Hendry makes some solid trades to remove some question marks. Yes, I am saying Wait 'Til Next Year. I stuck with the Cubs through their 95 loss seasons and this team is the '27 Yankees comparatively. Sitting at Shea, I saw murals of the Miracle Mets everywhere. Sometimes miracles do happen. It's not like the Cubs aren't due.
  8. I get home from work and this message board has turned into an episode of Desperate Housewives!
  9. I will admit that I didn't get a chance to watch the game until the 7th. I didn't know that the ump was calling low and away the whole game.
  10. Barrett hit a laser that was caught that inning. That last strike to Lawton looked out of the zone from my view. Luck has a way of evening out over a 162 game season. Unless you antagonize the umps, a la 2004.
  11. The Cubs stole that win like Watergate. 1-0 in the Lawton era.
  12. I have tickets to Sunday's game at Shea. I hope that I'll see the Cubs extending their winning streak.
  13. Lawton for Gerut is much better than Soriano for Pie & Hill. I still can't believe that the Reds didn't trade one of their surplus outfielders. They deserve their fate.
  14. Lee's reputation is that of a second half monster. Huff's is as well. I would love to get Huff but LaMarr won't let him go unless we give him 5 top prospects. I call shenanigans to LaMarr. I'm also saying that Huff will never have a season like Derrek Lee is this year. Yeah, I'm going out on that limb.
  15. My MLB.TV just went to a rainbow pattern. Al Yellon of Bleeding Cubbie Blue fame probably has to wake up in an hour. I have the day off tomorrow. I'm not sure I'll be awake for the start of tomorrow's games. I can't fathom what the lineups will look like. I imagine that Blanco is starting.
  16. I thought chanting "Hawkins, Hawkins" was slightly amusing. People used to do it to Darryl Strawberry all the time. "Hawkins Sucks" is over the line. I'm glad that they're chanting "Let's Go Cubs" now.
  17. Jody Gerut must be wondering, "Was Hawkins even that bad while he was here? Hey, don't throw at me! I was in Cleveland!"
  18. I might be imagining it but it looked like Murton was shaking his head at Hawkins' abuse.
  19. I feel sorry for LaTroy Hawkins. He's getting treated like he faked an injury so he could cheat on his wife or he bet against the Cubs while he was still on the team.
  20. Murton is my hero. He might get his BA against lefties up to .800 in about a week at this pace. He's playing like a red-headed Ichiro this week.
  21. Matt Murton will probably save the Cubs millions. I'd rather see what Murton can do rather than pay millions for Mike Cameron or someone who isn't a true gamebreaker. By the way, Go Iowa. I would also pay anything for Manny Ramirez. Maybe that's why I'm not the GM.
  22. Jim Hendry was certainly right about Dempster. I can't wait to see what he has in store for the trade deadline. That Nomar deal certainly came out of nowhere, didn't it?
  23. He mentioned Neifi in his article. He didn't say anything about Nomar or Wood. That guy must be trying to get on that awful show before Pardon The Interruption.
  24. Look at Dunn's OBP and SLG % and say that again with a straight face.
