  1. the cubs are tied for the second-fewest offensive strikeouts in the national league. it surprised me, so i thought i'd throw that out there for those who lament all our strikeouts. at the same time, they are 7th (or 8th, can't remember) in runs scored, though if they were at their RC total of 630, they'd be 3rd. they only team i noticed on the good side of their RC was the cards, for what it's worth. it's late sc
  2. cpattfan, i think you might be low on wood and lee's sals (from memory though -- quite possible you're right and i'm not), and do you seriously want to put cedeno and pie on next year's bench? that seems countrproductive to me. start them, regardless of which league they play in. personally, i'm inclined to start cedeno for chicago (i'm really doubtful nomar can get through an entire year at this point) and pie for iowa; however, if you can get nomar to sign a contract that is mostly incentives, i'd prolly go for it. i'm not sure what the breaking point would be for me, but i doubt i'd go over 5 for nomar's base.
  3. can anyone tell me why sing is batting 6th? it seems rather a waste to me. sc
  4. per ap, when wood returns from the dl, he will be in the bullpen to reduce the wear on his shoulder, both in a rehab assignment in the minors and with the cubs. sc
  5. how about murton for leadoff? do you think dusty would try it? i would. his 17 or so steals this year show he has the base stealing ability dusty wants, plus he gets on base. if murton can stick (and dusty tries this and it works) it opens the door to spending on other stuff, such as an impact bat (and bj ryan next year, perhaps).
  6. nitpicking, but i'd like to point out that he didn't hit better than 1.000 -- his OPS was over that mark. that said, he had one helluva week. i'd kinda like to think he'll continue to steal 10 bases a week for the whole season, thus destroying all sb records known to man. sc
  7. there's been a little talk of clement being dealt for an arm at the deadline. between need for arms and excess system shortstops among contenders, my targets if i were gm would be anaheim, kansas city and texas (at least if you count them as contenders or near-term contenders). do you see this as a possibility, and if so, what positions/teams etc. do you think might be targeted? seattlecub
  8. in '05, there are 4 spots that need filling, not counting bullpen, as i see it -- #5 starter, 2b, lf and ss. my hope/prediction (in that order) is that the cubbies target renteria for ss, have guzman in the rotation 9assuming no more health crapouts) and go one vet and 1 rook at 2b and lf. i'm pretty sure that clement is gone and that, if not guzman, one of the farm arms takes over that spot. so my question is where do you see the cubs going on 2b, ss and lf? seattlecub
