Maybe Hoyer has learned his model is a failure. He was touting the Tampa Bay Ray as the ideal method with them winning without superstars but clearly it isn’t working for Hoyer. With some of his interviews this season it seems like hes alluded that the team needs a superstar but its not feasible for this current season.
Your first point makes sense to me, but i disagree about how his contract will play out. Probably will end up better than Bogaerts, who has been a disaster but with how quickly Swansons bat and glove have trended down this season i have doubts his next few years will be anywhere close to as valuable as he was last year.
Considering Braves offered him 6 yr 100 mill, im guessing it was around there for the other teams. Swanson was also willing to give the Braves a big hometown discount
His option years will prevent the cubs from getting anything of value in return. Might be able to get something if they pay his salary for the year and his opt out money next year.
That was me as well, but i think its more likely in this case given he’s approaching his previous innings high and has been struggling with some ineffectiveness. And that he was IL’ed as soon as they managed to grab some insurance in the absolute legend that is Vinny Nittoli
