  1. As he mentioned, we’ve been consistent trade partners over the last decade. Tauch would make sense there.
  2. 1296 PA's .247/.317/.372 94 wRC+ career slash line. Not really looking to add that to an offense that already struggles to score runs.
  3. I’ve been pushing the run environment aspect for a while now. It hurts us probably more than most teams with competitive aspirations with the lack of raw power throughout our lineup. My post really wasn’t that serious and more of a shot at our current vets and the need for them to be better offensively next season.
  4. (ALERT - meaningless small sample size) Amaya has a wRC+ of 273 over his last 9 games. The Cubs average runs per game during those 9 games - 2.67 runs. Moral of the story (Outside of being an irrelevant sample size), if Swanson, Nico, Morel, PCA and company doesn't hit (Or we at least don't get production out of their replacements next season), it doesn't matter what we do at catcher.
  5. Unfortunately that's who we are - a team built on the margins who is going to play close games. We need better players for more of the "easy" wins where the little things don't matter.
  6. And Seiya's 50/50 check swing goes against us....
  7. This game is just the Cubs season in a nutshell. Doesn't matter what we do, it's going to comeback to bite us. Steele doesn't get an obvious strike 3 call in the first > Tauch misses one in CF that PCA would've caught easily > Pitch count gets way up because of that flukey inning > soft contact leads to Steele being pulled in the 6th > Miller comes in > Brewers counter with Bauers (Soft base hit) and Turang (Crucial 50/50 check swing call goes against us) > Tie game.
  8. Steele waving off CC and yelling into his glove when CC comes out. Love the fire, hate the decision for my fantasy team as I needed the QS from him.
  9. We have to lead the league in warning track shots right????
  10. Home runs are cool. We should do that more often.
  11. 1st and 2nd, no outs > Sac Bunt > K > Popout.
  12. Typical Cubs unlucky BS. Steele doesn't get the strike 3 call and Hoskins hits a broken bat hit about 20 mph that Steele falls down trying to field and doesn't look right shaking his arm after walking the next batter on 4 pitches.
  13. That was strike 3! And also it's sounding pretty bad for Yelich -
  14. I'm betting it's all smoke and he's not going anywhere. However, if their was a pitch to get him to waive his NTC, it would be "Would you be open to playing for the Dodgers along side Ohtani, Freeman, Betts, etc and compete for the WS the next 2.5 years?".
  15. I'm indifferent. I see both sides of the coin with the positive/negative arguments. I do think the folks who are on the hard "keep him" side need to at least prepare for the chance he's getting moved. There's been enough smoke out there around him and it's yet to be shot down.
  16. I think Taillon is going to be the pivot point for the loser of the Skubal sweepstakes.
  17. Most likely nothing at all besides rumors and Cubs scouting doing their due diligence, but we don't have a lot to look forwards to this deadline so let's chat on some more scenarios that most likely aren't going to happen. Fire away -
  18. I actually think he's going to have a pretty hot market. I think teams that usually don't make the "big splash" at the deadline are going to be after him. Sox for sure and teams like Royals, Pirates, etc seem to fit their type of move. That's not even considering the Yankees and Braves could use him.
  19. This is what I've been harping on for awhile. The MLB is absolutely going to make sure the offensive environment is better next year (Similar to what happened after the 2022 dead ball season). There's going to be a lot of regression with our pitching staff next year. Guys that miss bats at a higher rate are going to be that much more valuable next season similar to how guys who have upper end power are that much more valuable this year. It was either Frank Stampfl or Chris Towers who said it best - Guys who hit the ball 40 rows deep aren't impacted by the ball going 37 rows now, but guys who only hit it a couple rows deep are heavily impacted this year. Think Nico and all the nice looking swings he's had that are caught at the warning track. I would like to think in an average live ball season those are doubles off the wall and/or some are making it in the basket.
  20. Man, Jed’s really did a number on us with who we are discussing for possible 3b options. Ouch
  21. Yea, that's why I prefaced it with "If he's Jed's guy, make it happen". Might have one shot at him this deadline, and if someone else trades for him, 3b options for next season get even slimmer. If Jed doesn't believe his unique hitting skill will translate well with the Cubs, then pass on him. I like Shaw, but he's not in the tier of "Can't block" prospect. Make him force his way on the field, that's a good problem to have if he does.
  22. Yea, that's the hope at least. For example, if the Rays are set on dealing Paredes at this deadline and Jed/the Cubs are really interested in acquiring Paredes, then go ahead and make the move. Then you can turn around and flip Morel to the Sox for a Teel package, etc, and you have a true Buy/Sell deadline.
  23. They do have a ton of holes elsewhere currently - namely 2b and 1b, plus they could always use pen help. Maybe Taillon + Lieter? Mervis most likely doesn't move the needle at all for them, but they've been trotting out Dom Smith at 1b while Casas rehabs. Morel at 2b for them would be a match. But then we're getting at the point where we are giving up a ton of current major league value where we would need something additional coming back with Teel, which I don't know if they have the almost ready mlb pieces to make something like that work.
