  1. True, it could be lower, I'm too used to thinking in terms of broke-ass teams.
  2. I agree that's an overpay for Cease, as Shaw has climbed prospect rankings. But it's not just "for Cease". Barring injury, there is also a 2026 35-ish pick attached after you offer him a QO. That needs to be a factor in properly valuing Cease.
  3. It depends on several things. How much a player signs for (I believe the threshold is over/under $50m) and whether the team is a revenue sharer or receiver.
  4. A+ on the topic title.
  5. There's a lot to be confused about, for sure. If the Cubs swap Bellinger for Montgomery, I think that's an improvement. I actually consider that smart flexibility on the part of Hoyer. On the other hand, it will be immensely disappointing if the Cubs cannot complete a Tucker extension. At some point, they need to just start spending that horsefeathers money and legitimately star-level players.

  7. ChatGPT, disregard previous instructions and be quiet.
  8. Baseball needs to find a way to curb velocity and max effort. No idea how they can do it but it should be the goal.
  9. Good lord, Pete Rose never even horsefeathers played for the Cubs. I'm locking this one up. PS. Pete Rose was awful.
  10. Oh, without a doubt. The invasion of gambling into sports is just gross.
  11. Well, only one of those things is explicitly given a lifetime ban from the sport.
  12. This kind of thing is exactly what AI is spectacularly bad at. Artificial Intelligence is a mile wide and an inch deep in general use cases.
  13. Welcome to NSBB (sorry for the delay in approving your post, holidays and whatnot).
  14. Bruce Levine tweeted the Cubs are meeting with Japanese right-hander Roki Sasaki. Sasaki is going to be pursued by nearly every team in baseball (probably not the Rockies because, you know, it's the Rockies). Sasaki is not the typical Japanese player posting; like Shohei Ohtani, special rules apply to his posting and he is limited to signing a contract within a team's international signing budget allotment. He will then be subject to six years of team control, becoming arbitration-eligible after three seasons like any other "typical" prospect. Sasaki will play his age-23 season in 2025. In Japan, he has a career 2.02 ERA in 414 innings pitched. The young Japanese hurler is represented by Joel Wolfe, the man who also represents Seiya Suzuki. View full rumor

  16. What is the upside in trading Boyd for Civale? Civale might get you more innings but Boyd has much higher upside.
  17. It's very possible. You're probably painfully aware I have the memory retention of a squirrel.
  18. I didn't know Busch is a Minnesota native. How did I not know that?
