  1. signing giles would be admitting that there's something to the statistic of on-base percentage. hendry will never do that, he hates OBP, and will go out of his way to avoid players who have it. Well that's a reasonable statement if I've ever heard one. since you don't know me, or really anyone else here, you'll probably have to learn that i have a tendency for visceral venting.
  2. Agreed...but it sure does not sound good. Who would you rather have, Huff or Jones? i would rather have neither. abreu or dunn please.

  4. If the Cubs won the Series next season, Hendry would win a permanent place in Chicago Sports lore, and deservedly so. He could be assigned to the GM position for life as far as I'm concerned along with 110% retirement benefits when he wanted to step down. I doubt that. Kenny Williams' work isnt being acknowledged by many and they waited almost as long as we have. the cubs and sox aren't comparable in this regard. most chicagoans would admit that it would be complete and total pandemonium if the cubs won. probably the biggest chicago sports story of the century. I am a Chicagoan. It would be larger scale just because there are more Cubs fans in the area but I dont think there would be pandemonium.. it would probably be larger than any of the bulls celebrations. and let's not forget that there are cubs fans around the country who would be celebrating. But that's not really the point, the point is this: a Cub world series team would be legendary not only on the local scale, but on the national scale. it would be the biggest national sports story of the year, easily, it would be the biggest chicago sports story of all time--imo, eclipsing the 85 bears easily.

  6. there's no other explanation than hendry is after abreu and dunn. those are the 2 trades on the table. i think hendry could have pushed any other trades for lesser players through by now. optimism. gotta love it.
  7. he wouldn't be too bad, but i'd like to see his IsoD improve.
  8. i think we cross that road when we get to it. as for now, hendry has made this team a bad one.
  9. this team wasn't a batting order spot away from contention, it was a philosophy away from contention. not enough men on base total, not enough runs. we can acquire all the speed in the world, all the bunters in the league, all the "gritty, timely hitters" in existence, but if you can't get on base with consistency, you can't score runs. OBP is the most important stat there is, but people seem to be ignoring it. i didn't say that the leadoff spot was alone the reason the team didn't contend. if you're going to quote me, please be accurate. i said that two huge problems for the team in 2005 have been addressed. sure there is more that could be done, but right away the team should be better. where did i quote you? and where did you say "two huge problems for the team in 2005 have been addressed"? if i were quoting you, i'd be better at it than you are at quoting yourself. we are not a strong bullpen and a leadoff hitter away from contending. we were a considerable improvement in team OBP away from contending last year. that is the bottom line. the team will be worse than it was last year if this is the team we're putting on the field. repeat after me: "OBP is the most important statistic for this team." putting someone fast in the leadoff spot and overpaying for marginal improvements in the bullpen does not cure anything.
  10. Ummmmm....He does realize we don't currently have a RF, right? Unless he considers Patterson or Mabry to be it. Here... we.... go... again.... Where we going? Hopefully for some ice cream. I'm in the mood for ice cream. Rocky Road? rocky cherry.

  12. w/risp in 2005 rowand: .290/.366/.443/.809 dye: .260/.327/.427/.754 pods: .237/.315/.276/.592 not exactly timely hitting.
  13. i honestly feel that hendry values rusch and does not intend to trade him.
  14. Joan Rivers oh yeah, joan jett. James Jett (that took me a while) James Andrews. Thea Andrews Thea Hackett. she's a character in one of my short stories. Buddy Hackett Buddy Love. bob love Bob Marley jacob marley

  16. not nearly as much as your eyes do.
  17. you're kidding, right? there are 162 games in a ML season, correct? if you watch the team play everyday and assume that you can learn everything you need to know, you're naive. if you watched the marlins play 162 games in 2004 and watched them play 162 games in 2005, without having any access to statistics, you wouldn't know the difference between pierre 04 and pierre 05. the difference between a .275 hitter and a .300 hitter is like 1 hit a week, how in the bloody heck can you see that by ignoring stats? trusting only in outdated conventional wisdom is foolish. the world is not flat, nor is the earth the center of the universe, and put your torch and pitchfork down. "Do you know what the difference between hitting .250 and .300 is? That's 25 hits...25 hits in 500 at bats is 50 points...ok. There's 6 months in a season. That's about 25 weeks, that means if you get just one extra flair a week, just one. A gork, you get a ground ball, you get a ground ball with eyes! You get a dying quail, just one more dying quail a week and you're in Yankee Stadium." sorry, i was off just a bit. crash is right.
  18. the only evidence i'd use to argue against pierre being a sparkplug next season is that he had a .326 OBP in 2005 and has never been very efficient on the basepaths.
  19. If he bunts, walks (Tim I believe thought [and correctly over the long term] that CPAT's walks would increase) gets that kind of production I'll play him in the 8 hole 145+ games next year. 21 hr???????????? I'd take that with Tejeda..those are Burnitz-like #'s no, huff puts up burntiz-like numbers.
  20. or, we could just enjoy being average. Its not Skiles' fault that the personnel on this team is not better than a low playoff seed. This team will NEVER win anything unless they have a big (6'5 or up) guard because that's where this team gets destroyed. Rip Hamilton Paul Pierce Dwyane Wade Larry Hughes (or LeBron) Michael Redd Gilbert Arenas Guys like this always just torch the Bulls because we don't pose legitimate matchups with these guys. They can shoot over the top of us with ease and as good of shooters as these guys are, it absolutely kills us. I would love to see this team put together a package for either Pierce or Ron Artest. Probably would start with Ben Gordon and Tim Thomas for both those packages. Those guys would be invaluable for this team for next season. Enjoy the Knicks very high pick and draft a legit big man (Aldridge) and be ready for a run in the East next year. Aldridge Sweets Deng Artest/Pierce Hinrich That could be good enough to win the East. i just doubt that artest will want to come to chicago to play for an even bigger screw than carlisle, and really neither will anyone. skiles has developed a rep in the league as being a jerk that gets a lot of production from lesser talented players, but struggles with more talented guys. he also systemiatically alienated his entire team in phoenix, which is why he got fired. but he was about as successful there as he has been here. i doubt he ever leads a team deep into the playoffs, nobody likes him.
  21. Horrid. Is is really any worse than Houston's lineup from last year. Pitching and D. Its not the ideal option, but it very well could be the best option available. Sign Milwood and find a better option ito add offense to lineup f need be as the season progresses. Signing one of the availabel RF to a multiyear deal is obsurd. i agree. but hendry better make sure we get millwood. if not, our starting could be suspect, our lineup is definitely suspect, with the only strength being our bullpen. i'm not looking forward to the season without a significant upgrade to either the starting staff or the lineup.
  22. Joan Rivers oh yeah, joan jett. James Jett (that took me a while) James Andrews. Thea Andrews Thea Hackett. she's a character in one of my short stories.

  24. i don't think you could argue with his talent. joan rivers' brain, maybe.
