only 104,923 over with that team. there's gotta be some way to shave that much salary. perhaps marty turco will take like 1.75 mil and we jettison antti. but this is workable, they're almost there.

  2. While Redick is a nice bench player, he is nothing to get excited over.

sure he is. the bulls were a terrible outside shooting team last year and that's what he brings. they were a pretty good mid-range team already, they're decent on the interior defensively if not offensively and they're maybe the best rebounding team in basketball.

i think the bulls win at least 50 this year and redick and korver will be a big part of it.

  3. looks like the cavs are going to get two firsts and two seconds out of this.

miami, in year six of the deals is going to be at nearly 90 mil for three players. if they use the mle six times at six years, that's 36 mil. 126 mil, lets say. then, they're paying 56 mil in luxury tax just on those 9 players.

    182 mil for a 9 player team.

  4. LeBron will make more in Miami due to not having to pay state taxes and Cleveland's excessive 2% city tax. Of course LeBron could get a sixth year in Cleveland, but he will obviously won't stop playing after this contract. He really isn't leaving much money on the table.

    http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/07/lebron-could-make-more-money-in-miami-than-cleveland---thank-you-state-taxes.php

but he'll have to pay the city's tax on puffy directing pants.

  5. Long time lurker, but I figured this was as good as time to start posting. Sorry if this was already posted, but I found this on another board I visit. I think it adds more fuel to the fire if true.

Chris Broussard said on ESPN Friday that a big reason that LeBron James didn't sign with the Bulls is that they didn't offer enough perks for LeBron's family and friends.

One of LeBron's buddies was hired by the Cavaliers and he wanted his entourage to be able to travel on the Bulls' tab, but the team, according to Broussard, said 'we didn't do that for Michael Jordan, so we're not doing it for you.'

and JR stated that Lebron only requested that they hire his trainer, which the Bulls agreed to do.

  6. Can we all agree on him being a worse point guard (at this point)? I think he can be the best in the league in a few years or maybe even this next upcoming year but as of last season he is not up to par yet.

I will only admit to him being a step or two behind Williams, not that he is a worse point guard.

    does not compute

  7.

Alright, close it up, nobody's topping that one.

Are you kidding me, SSR? Gimme a break. I didn't say Rose was better, all I said was Rose wasn't a "worse point guard." If you are talking about "worse point guard" I assume you are talking about guys like Toney Douglas, Baron Davis, Andre Miller, Rajon Rondo, Jameer Nelson, etc. Derrick is a step behing Deron, just like Deron is a step behind Chris Paul, but Derrick has the talent to at least reach Deron Williams status, if not surpass it.

I agree with you completely. While most may say that Deron Williams is a better point guard now, I think most would also agree that Rose could easily become a better point guard than Williams is. Rose is already a top 5 point guard in the league at age 21 and is a few years from his prime still. In 2-3 years he will probably be the best point guard or at least in the same category as Chris Paul.

this year he'll be in the same category as paul. the question is if he's in the same category as williams, which he isn't.

  8. I think San Jose is actually going after either Nik or Niemi here. It's win-win. If the Hawks don't match, they get a very good young defensemen at about market value. They lose two late round picks, not a huge loss.

If the Hawks match, they likely can't afford Niemi and he becomes a UFA when there are really no other teams out there looking for a starting goaltender anymore. Philly needs to shed cap space, and I have no doubt San Jose would be the favorites to sign him (even though they claim to be fine with Nittymaki as their starter).

That said, I would love to see Niemi back on a cheap 1 year deal with a gentleman's agreement that he will cash in after another good year...however unlikely that may be.

the sharks already signed a finnish goaltender to start for them. niemi would be pointless since he's the same exact goalie.

  9. apparently the t-wolves swapped 1st rounders with the heat in that beasley trade, and it's not lottery protected

which means the heat are going to be getting a lottery pick. just [expletive] great

why couldn't we have gotten 3 first rounders for versteeg?

  10. Beasley to T-Wolves for 2nd round pick.

Also allows Miami to get back Haslem and Wright using Bird rights. They're waiting for Mike Miller and they contacted Jason Williams to play for minimum.

It does? That blows. Haslem is a real piece. I hope someone outbids them for Mike Miller.

If they get Shaq or Brad to take the minimum they're going to be set.

They won't use the bird rights on Haslem or Wright. In order to have the money to sign the big 3 they have to renounce those rights. They may try to sign them to the minimum or with whatever they have left, but those bird rights are gone.

yeah, i was running it through in my mind. there are cap holds that would prevent anything like that from happening. you can't fill up your roster with free agents and then sign your own guys and expect to be able to exercise their bird rights, anyway.
