  1. I wonder how Don Baylor feels. He won 88 games with a $64M team that had more holes than a 10 lb. block of swiss cheese.
  2. Hendry's job wasn't hanging by a thread two years ago.
  3. Jacque in CF means no platoon for him. I'm sure he's happy about that. Wish I were.
  4. At least in 6 years market inflation will make this deal look less insane. :D Has market inflation made ARod's deal look good? To me, yes. I wanted to trade Z for ARod and build for 2008, assuming ARod can still play SS.
  5. Fonz was the only big thumper in the Nats lineup, so I'm sure he got pitched around some. With DLee and Aramis in the lineup it won't be like that. I guess that will translate into more HR opportunities, but also fewer walks.
  6. Has anybody considered how this deal looks if the Cubs are sold and payroll drops back to $95M? This could be a franchise-crippling boat anchor.
  7. I HATE this contract. Writing off 2007 and retooling for 2008 would have been infinitely preferrable to this.
  8. Missing games? Who are we talking about, Alou or Drew? Would you like Drew if he stopped walking? I'd like Drew with he played more games. He's as soft as Charmin. Here's a guy who just doesn't fully use his talent. In 2006 Drew appeared in 146 games and had 594 plate appearances. Alou doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of matching that unless he's DHing, and even then I wouldn't bet on it.
  9. I have no clue why an NL team would spend $8M on this guy. He's almost certain to miss at least 50 games and his defense is awful.
  10. Dunno, but I would do Murton for Westbrook straight up, especially if we ink Soriano and Drew as rumored. Only if Westbrook was locked up longterm. Even then, I'm not sure. It's probably fair, but I'm just really bias toward Murton. He's my fav. player. Besides, I don't think the Indians really want/need an outfielder. We really need to trade from our strength, which is bullpen pitching and even young arms. Yeah I am also not a big fan of trading Murton. I understand that you have to trade value for value but if Carlos Lee is gonna get atleast 5/70 then I dont' see how you would trade someone who put up better numbers than him for just an average starter. Especially when this players will only be making like 500k. It just makes no sense to me. Matt Murton .297 .365 .444 13 HR 62 RBI OPS-.809 Carlos Lee .300 .355 .540 37 HR 116RBI OPS-.895 Not sure that I'd call Matt Murton better than Carlos Lee. CLee - 695 PA Murton - 508 PA
  11. I'm totally not surprised to hear Jimbo won't be outbid for Soriano. He's desperate to save his job and CF is the last open position. If he doesn't get Soriano or Drew he should start packing his bags.
  12. Jerome Williams redux? Juan Cruz?
  13. Yet another reason why forgetting about 2007 looks good to me. I'd give our stable of AAA SPs all of 2007 to see if some of them can lay claim to a rotation spot in 2008. Better that than paying for Meche.
  14. Na, Aramis strikes me as a guy who may have found a comfort zone in Chicago and is not a fanatic about winning. Z is a different animal. I'm sure Z also knows more W's will help him get a Cy Young.
  15. High-priced role players continue to be a staple of this regime.
  16. HR/9 explains a lot of Maddux's decline. He had superhuman location in his prime, now his location is more like a normal human being's and he occasionally throws mistake pitches that get clobbered.
  17. That looks pretty decent to me. You? (with pitching improvements ofcourse) DeRosa can't hit RHP, Jones can't LHP, Izzy can't hit anybody, so you have two offensive black holes in the lineup every day. Soriano's power would be a helluva lot more useful if weren't batting behind Izzy and the pitcher, and he won't be a good table-setter if regresses to his career OBP. I really really really don't like Soriano leading off when there's an all-glove #8 hitter in the lineup.
  18. I have a feeling Soriano will get a huge offer from Jim.
  19. If the everyday MIF is now set with Derosa/Izturis then the last open position is CF. Unless he wants to move Jones to CF Jim has little choice but to go all out for Drew or Soriano.
  20. Theriot will certainly regress, but he's young enough to be learning still. Derosa will be 32 next February. He's not going to get any better.
  21. Have to agree with rotoworld: $4.3M per year is a lot of dough for someone you can only use vs. lefties. This looks like Hendry's classic habit of paying top dollar for role players.
  22. Z is a FA after 2007 and will be due for a massive contract, so keeping him only makes sense if we want to make a run in 2007. The Yanks are perpetually in 'win now' mode, so we could give Z to the Yanks and have ARod under contract thru 2010. Of course this is all moot because Hendry has to win now to save his job.
