  1. Wasn't sure if this should be a random cub or random baseball musing but How about the Padres sending their oft injured potential Number 1 starter out to play left field in extra innings last night. Just see the guy having to make a throw and hurting his arm, or tearing something trying to catch a ball. I know we have done things with Wood and Shark, but this would be more like the cubs putting Garza out there with his history.
  2. 2013 Veras 3.62 era 1.069 whip How can he put on a cubs uni and just become crap?
  3. So you're saying I'm out?
  4. I'll give credit for clearly building the organization up. Our system is clearly better. That being said how that pans out at the major league level and what else they do to complement it will determine whether what they have done has been worth it or worth any points!
  5. On a good note we are no longer being dominated by a pitcher sporting a 13.50 era. We helped him drop it down into the 5's. Now I don't feel nearly as bad!
  6. I think that may be "baseball age". I think he signed San Diego in 1987 at the age of 6.
  7. Possible, both times it looked pretty obvious but who knows what it looked like in person. Also, after just having everything put out there last time around, why wouldn't you just not cheat for a couple starts?
  8. My fantasy advice always pick up the guy pitching against the cubs. That way there is a really good chance he puts up solid stats, and if he doesn't, you're at least happy because they cubs won (probably). Regardless,it beats going with a borderline Cub because then you face putting up awful stats AND the cubs getting hammered.
  9. If we only could put out an outfield of Campana, Colvin and Boguesevic and have Willis to be our ace!
  10. Joe may have a soft place in his heart for steroid use… He is right though. And whether they like it or not, Sosa, Mcgwire, Bonds and other "users" brought a lot of interest back to baseball when fans were very tired of whiny millionaire players, and billionaire owners.
  11. He was my favorite player growing up. Heck, my dog, who was an awesome dog for 17 years was named Sandberg. Hard for me to turn on him for anything less than an OJ type deal.
  12. Luckily the weather is bad enough to take out the satellite signal, so I don't have to suffer through every pitch/play
  13. I think when he says "Cindy Sandberg screwed the team", he means it literally….
  14. Sammy isn't even a confirmed cheater either. They/We have excepted back Fergie with his problem. Santo had terrible stories about his partying and how he did not take care of his health/diabetes. People love Ryno, Grace even Sutcliffe and they have had different issues. As for Grace, are you saying that in your entire life you haven't gotten behind the wheel after having a touch too much to drink? I would have to say BS for anyone in my generation. I'm also pretty sure we all have a friend who has. and we probably have a friend who has a DUI but we still are friends with them despite the fact that they could have killed someone. So maybe we should ease up on the judgement.
  15. Sammy taking steroids was not illegal nor was it against baseball rules. You can walk into a Dominican "Walgreen's" and buy it off the shelf. Unethical maybe, but when most of the league, and most of other sports are using it, it's hard to point to Bonds, Sosa and McGwire as bad people (at least because of that). Its funny how the way you(or the press) feel about a player changes your perception. Bonds fights with Kent, and he's a bad teammate. Jordan punches Kerr and he's competitive. Griffey, Jr and Nomar are great guys and no way they could juice-Despite muscles being torn off bones, which is a huge symptom of steroids. But Arod, Sosa, Clemens and Bonds are in court and senate hearings over sports/steroids.
  16. Didn't want to list every reason why each player shouldn't be invited as a cub great. The ones I mentioned as possibilities for the "under 60 crowd" of possible greats are all finished as players. I also didn't get into to why Grace was "busy" when mentioned with Sandberg, it's clearly a different reason than Ryno managing. For the record, as Cubs: Lee posted a .298 .378 .524 .903. with an average of 25.5 hr Aram .294 .356 .531 .887 with an average of 26.5 hr Lee 22.5 war over 7 seasons or 3.2 per season Aram 23.8 war over 9 seasons or 2.6 per season I will give you that almost of the War was from 2005 when Lee was incredible. I still have to say that it Aram is not "hands down" the best cubs since Sosa.
  17. Does he not have teammates or coaches that see this, and can tell him to hide it better? Or do they all hate him and say screw it? I mean this is twice that "stuff" was easy to see and they just let him keep trotting out there.
  18. but he is busy playing right now, that's what I meant by not including him Alou was also a great player but I think of him with other teams more than as a cub. Same with Dempster, although I don't think of him as necessarily a great.
  19. Yes. The bullpen gave up 2 walks, 2 ground balls, 1 line drive, two catchable fly balls, and got 2 K's, and ended up 5 runs worse as a result. It was as fluky as a blown 3-run save can be. Its kind of a double edged sword. You can say the walks don't hurt without Castro's error, or the outfield misplays. On the other hand, Castro's error probably doesn't happen without the walk, and definitely doesn't matter without the walks. Basically it's an all-around awful inning put together to simply torture any remaining fans.
  20. You got something there. I literally felt sorry for the kid because I am thinking of how much heartbreak he may have to deal with over the Cubs in rest of his lifetime.
  21. I think Ricketts would have let everyone know they invited Sosa if he had turned them down, just to avoid the PR hit. Probably could've have gotten some of the Sammy haters on board. Obviously Grace and Sandberg would be included in Cub greats by couldn't attend for various reasons. Maybe Derrick Lee, or Prior (probably a stretch, didn't last long but he was an important part for that short time) from that era to go along with Wood. I don't think you can call Dempster, Aram, or Alou Cub greats.
  22. I am not sure if I'm mentally ready for this game. Why should it matter if we win a series or not? For whatever reason it does to me. I just want them to win a flippin' series. Anything could happen but I don't think we have a real good shot again until San Diego, which is towards the end of May!
